This is absolutely great news for Black Widow fans! Marvel Studios has hinted that they are in the process of developing a film set to revolve around Black Widow, played by Scarlett Johansson.
According to Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, Marvel has “already started discussions with Scarlett (Johansson) about the idea of a solo movie and have begun putting together concepts, but ‘The Avengers’ comes first.”
With regards to Scarlett’s character in Captain America: The Winter Solider, her co-star, Chris Evans, has said that her storyline revolves around “her coming to terms with her history, that she’s been a spy, and spies aren’t necessarily trustworthy.”
So far, Black Widow has appeared in the Iron Man and The Avengers franchises and is set to appear in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, due out in 2015, where her part will be “very big,” according to Feige. He continues on to say that:
“We learn more about her past and learn more about where she came from and how she became in that film. The notion of exploring that even further in her own film would be great, and we have some development work with that. When we meet the Avengers at the top of ‘Age of Ultron,’ it’s a very different landscape than we left them at the end of the first film. Partially, that’s because we love the rhythm that the comicbooks have developed — each of the characters appear in their runs, occasionally they get together for a big event or crossover series, they part again, and then they come back together again.”
While many details still remain unclear, fans can look forward to a Black Widow solo project in the future. At the very least, if nothing happens, at least we get to see her kick some serious ass in a slew of new films, coming soon!
