First "The Giver" Trailer Starring Meryl Streep, Jeff Bridges

The very first trailer for the upcoming film, The Giver, starring Meryl Streep (Chief Elder), Jeff Bridges (The Giver), and Brenton Thwaites (Jonas), premiered this morning. It gives us a a peek into the big screen adaption of Lois Lowry‘s classic novel.

“From great suffering, great pain, came a solution: communities. Where disorder became harmony,” says Streeps character. “When people have the freedom to choose – they choose wrong.”

The synopsis of the film says:

“The haunting story of The Giver centers on Jonas, who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. Not until he is given his life assignment as the Receiver of Memory does he begin to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his fragile community. The film is based on Lois Lowry’s beloved young adult novel of the same name, which was the winner the 1994 Newbury Medal and has sold over 10 million copies worldwide.”

The film also stars Alexander Skarsgård (Jonas’ father), Katie Holmes (Jonas’ mother), Taylor Swift (Rosemary), and Cameron Monaghan (Asher).

The Giver hits theatres on August 15, 2014.
