A few months we were excited to find out that J.K. Rowling would be penning a movie script for her book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Now we have even better news!
The New York Times recently reported in its profile of Warner Bros.’ CEO Kevin Tsujihara that the Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be released as a trilogy of megamovies.
The films are expected to follow the character Newt Scamander and begin in New York about seven decades prior to Harry Potter’s adventures.
Rowling previously credited Tsujihara for convincing her to reenter the Potter universe:
“When I say he made Fantastic Beasts happen, it isn’t P.R.-speak but the literal truth,” she says. “We had one dinner, a follow-up telephone call, and then I got out the rough draft that I’d thought was going to be an interesting bit of memorabilia for my kids and started rewriting!”
