Looks like those rumours about Lupita Nyong’o joining Star Wars: Episode VII were true after all!
Along with Lupita’s casting, the official Star Wars website has announced that Game of Thrones actress Gwendoline Christie has been cast in the upcoming J.J. Abrams directed film.
In March, rumours began to circulate saying that Lupita Nyong’o was close to securing a spot in the latest Star Wars installment. After the cast for the film was announced back in April, it seemed like Lupita hadn’t made the cut.
Now, there’s no news yet on which characters either of these talented actresses will portray, but when rumours of Lupita’s casting first came out, many thought that her character would be a descendant of Obi-Wan Kenobi.
“I could not be more excited about Lupita and Gwendoline joining the cast of Episode VII,” says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy on the casting news, “It’s thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape.”
The 12 Years a Slave star and Gwendoline will join actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac, and Max von Sydow, along with returning Star Wars vets Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, and Peter Mayhew.
Star Wars: Episode VII is set to open in theatres on December 18, 2015.
