The next film in the Veronica Roth Divergent series is coming along quite nicely, especially considering that Summit has added over six new actors to the film in the last month alone.
The latest to join the cast is Daniel Dae Kim who is best known for his roles on ABC’s Lost and CBS’ Hawaii Five-0. There’s no word yet on which role Dae Kim will play.
Update: It has been confirmed by Summit that Dae Kim will play Jack Kang of Candor.
Jonny Weston has joined the cast of Insurgent as Edgar, a new character that hasn’t appeared in any of the Divergent books. Suki Waterhouse will play Marlene, a member of the Dauntless faction who was seen briefly in the Divergent book but did not appear in the movie adaption.
Perhaps the biggest name so far to recently join the cast is Academy Award nominated actress Naomi Watts whose film credits include King Kong, I Heart Huckabees, 21 Grams, and The Impossible.
Watts will play Evelyn, the mother of Four (played by Theo James), who seeks to destroy the Erudite faction. She has signed on for the remainder of the Divergent films, which includes Insurgent, Allegiant – Part 1, and Allegiant – Part 2.
Other actors to join the cast in the last month include The Help‘s Octavia Spencer and The Hunger Game‘s Stephanie L. Schlund.
Insurgent is set to hit theatres in March 2015. If you haven’t yet seen Divergent yet, you can pre-order it on DVD + Digital via Amazon!
