Keiynan Lonsdale, a virtually unknown actor, singer, and dancer (for now) from Australia, has been cast in the highly-anticipated Divergent sequel, Insurgent.
Keiynan will play Uriah, a fan favourite from the series who was cut from the first film, despite his heavy presence in the Divergent book. According to Keiyan’s IMDb profile, he’s appeared in TV series All Saints and Dance Academy and the the 2007 film, Razzle Dazzle.
In the Divergent series, Uriah is a Dauntless-born divergent initiate who befriends Tris (Shailene Woodley) during the capture the flag game.
In the last few weeks, Summit has announced other actors who will join the Insurgent cast, including Daniel Dae Kim as Jack Kang, Jonny Weston as Edgar, Suki Waterhouse as Marlene, Naomi Watts as Four’s mother, Evelyn, Octavia Spencer as Johanna, and Stephanie L. Schlund in an unknown role.
Divergent, the first film in the series, went on to gross $267 million worldwide following its March 2014 release. Insurgent will open in theatres on March 20, 2015, and the final two films, Allegiant: Part 1 and Allegiant: Part 2, will open on March 18, 2016 and March 24, 2017, respectively.
