"Orange is the New Black" Promotes Dascha Polanco To Series Regular
Netflix's "Orange is the New Black" has promoted Dascha Polanco, who plays Daya Diaz, to series regular when the show returns for season 3.

Orange is the New Black has promoted Dascha Polanco, who plays Dayanara “Daya” Diaz, to the role of series regular for season 3.

Polanco has been in almost every episode of the hit Netflix series, since it first began streaming, with perhaps one of the most interesting storylines on the show. In season 1, Daya fell in love with correctional officer, John Bennett (Matt McGorry). The two later conceived a child.

In season 2, the wildly inappropriate, but oh-so-loveable pairing, grappled with their decision to frame Pornstache. By framing him, they were able to hide their relationship further and John was able to avoid being arrested, a fate which befell Pornstache.

At the end of the season, John decided to come-clean to the new head of Linchfield, Joe Caputo, by telling him that he was the one who got Daya pregnant. John did this to prove to his girlfriend that he wasn’t afraid of doing what was necessary. Unfortunately for him, however, the plan didn’t go he thought it would, and Caputo decided to act like he had never heard any of this news. After all, it was only his second day in his new job.

There’s no word yet on how Polanco’s new status will affect her character’s development, but it’s safe to imagine that it will have something to do with the birth of her and John Bennett’s baby in season 3.

Polanco wasn’t the only cast member promoted for season 3. Selenis Leyva (Gloria), Adrienne C. Moore (Black Cindy), Samira Wiley (Poussey), and Nick Sandow (Joe Caputo) are all joining Polanco as series regulars for the upcoming season.
