The hilarious and talented Kathy Griffin is set to host this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards. The annual award show recognizes excellence in American daytime television programming.
Speaking about her upcoming gig, Griffin said that she is “thrilled to be hosting what I’m told is the most important television event of the year.” In typical Kathy Griffin fashion, the comedian went on, saying:
I am beyond Knowing that over 100 million people from every corner of the planet will be watching, I will try to keep my nerves at bay and deliver a great show. I can only hope that at the end of the evening, critics and fans alike will compare it to the experience they once had watching Neil Armstrong take man’s first step on the moon.
Of course, Griffin has acknowledged that she’ll be in competition for viewers, what with the World Cup currently underway. But, she isn’t worried:
My only regret is knowing that this epic evening will distract millions of viewers from enjoying this year’s World Cup. I apologize to FIFA.
Griffin’s other hosting jobs have included hosting CNN’s New Year’s Eve coverage with Anderson Cooper for the last seven years.
The Daytime Emmy Awards will take place on Sunday, June 22 in Beverly Hills, California , and will be available to view via live stream at www.daytimeemmys.net.
