Although True Blood will be airing its series finale this year, HBO is giving fans a new reason to get excited. The network is reportedly in “very early discussions” about a musical project.
The musical is expected to be presented to the network next year and will centre around the character of Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin). It’s still unclear as to whether the whole original cast will star in the musical.
True Blood composer Nathan Barr has stated that he already has some songs ready for the project.
“The story lends itself to a musical. The challenge for us is the minute I thought about ‘True Blood: The Musical,’ I myself could kind of groan. I can see the bad version of that. It’s really a matter of finding a way of sort of reinventing it. We’re pitching it; it’s not a guaranteed thing. I have the rights. HBO doesn’t have to like it, but hopefully they will, and they’ll give us the shot to make it and bring it to Broadway.”
The final season of True Blood premieres this Sunday.
Do you think True Blood returning as a musical is a good idea?
