From the set of Star Wars: Episode VII, director J.J. Abrams gave fans a first look at what is being described as the new X-Wing starfighter from the upcoming film.
The video also serves as a way for Abrams to give one final push to Disney, Lucasfilm, and Bad Robot’s “Star Wars: Force for Change” initiative that was first announced eight weeks ago. “People from over 119 countries have already participated and that’s incredibly” Abrams said. “We’re so grateful.”

There were some eyebrows raised by fans when this video was first released. Many of them argued that the plane was actually a Z-95 Headhunter and not an X-Win. Well, the Star Wars official Twitter was quick to clear that one up:
@CDCanimation It is in fact an Episode VII X-wing, not a Z-95.

Variety reports that, within 24 hours of being announced, the initiative raised $1 million. Because of the success so far, Abrams announced that, in addition to the grand prize, which would see one lucky fan getting a part in the film, someone else can now win an advanced screening for themselves and 20 friends a week before the film’s December 18, 2015 release.
