Arrow season 3 is only a few short weeks away and The CW has released a new promotional poster and official synopsis for episode 1 “The Calm.”
The new poster sees Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) dressed as the Arrow as he walks down a dark street. Behind him, Starling City is in chaos with fires and smoke. The tagline of the poster reads, “Saving a city takes a toll.” Could the image and tagline be alluding to the new reality that Oliver will now have to face since saving Starling City from near destruction at the hands of Slade?
The CW also released an official synopsis for the season 3 premiere:
OLIVER SEARCHES FOR AN IDENTITY BEYOND THE ARROW — With crime in Starling City at an all-time low thanks to the Arrow (Stephen Amell) and his team, Oliver thinks he can finally balance being both the Arrow and Oliver Queen and asks Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) out on a date. However, when a new villain (guest star Peter Stormare) emerges, who has claimed the name Vertigo from the recently deceased Count, Oliver is caught off-guard and someone close to him is hurt. Oliver and a newly suited up Roy (Colton Haynes) take on the Count. Meanwhile, Diggle (David Ramsey) becomes a father, Lance (Paul Blackthorne) is promoted to Captain, Laurel (Katie Cassidy) joins Arrow’s inner circle and Felicity gets a part-time job at a tech store to make ends meet. Also, Oliver fights to regain his company, Queen Consolidated, but comes up against a very worthy opponent — the charming Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh). Glen Winter directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Andrew Kreisberg and teleplay by Marc Guggenheim & Jake Coburn (#301).
It would seem that things have changed dramatically from the eend of season 2. It’s exciting to know that Quentin did in fact survive after he collapsed in the season 2 finale. Plus, Laurel is now officially a part of Team Arrow after learning about Oliver’s secret identity. But, what about Thea (Willa Holland)? We know from past promotional material that she’s off training with her biological father, Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman), but when will she see Oliver again? And is Malcolm training her so that she can help him in his vendettas?
Arrow season 3, episode 1 “The Calm” premieres October at 8PM EST on The CW.
