Channing Tatum has been confirmed for the role of Gambit in an upcoming X-Men spinoff film.
Deadline is reporting Josh Zetumer (Robocop) will write the script while Tatum will produce with his partner Reid Carolin and Lauren Shuler of The Donners Company and Simon Kinberg of Genre Films.
In an interview with MTV back in May, Tatum said, “I met with Lauren Shuler Donner. I would love — Gambit’s my really only X-Men that I’ve ever loved. I [mean]I’ve loved them all, they’re all great, [but]I don’t know I guess just being from down south — my dad’s from Louisiana and I’m from Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida — I don’t know I just related to him.”
No details of the plot have yet to be released as the “storyline is being kept under wraps.”
Gambit, also known as Remy LeBeau, was created by Jim Lee and Chris Claremont in 1990. A New Orleans-born charmer, Gambit has the mutant ability to charge objects with kinetic energy that explode on impact. One of his signature moves is charging playing cards and hurling them at his opponents.
You can catch Channing Tatum in Magic Mike XXL and Jupiter Ascending, both of which will be released in theatres in 2015.
