At the beginning of season 3, Laurel’s sister, Sara, who was also known by her crime fighting name, Canary, was mysteriously killed. Since then, Laurel has been desperate to find her sister’s killer. After she realizes that she needs help to become the hero she wants to be, she turns to Ted Grant (Wildcat). He is currently teaching her to channel her anger through boxing. This is a Laurel took to become the Black Canary in the DC comic books.

J.R. Ramirez, who plays Ted Grant, recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about his and Laurel’s relationship. “Ted sees a lot him in her but he wants to make sure she’s doing this for the right reasons. She’s obviously working through a lot of turmoil and a lot of pain,” he said. “I feel like right now he’s wanting to take that step by step and not get too ahead of ourselves and work on the technique and the training. It’s not about having her go out and fight people, it’s more about really loving the sport and hoping that she sticks to loving what boxing is and not any other reason.”

Arrow season 3, episode 6 “Guilty” will air Wednesday, November 12 at 8PM EST on The CW.
