The residents of Storybrooke are about to take a serious turn for the worse!
The cast of Once Upon a Time spoke with EW about what viewers can expect now that the Snow Queen (Elizabeth Mitchell) has cast the nasty Spell of Shattered Sight which forces everyone to only see the worst in themselves and in others.
As we already know, the Snow Queen previously used the spell on Anna (Elizabeth Lail) which lead to her trapping her sister, Elsa (Georgina Haig), in the magic urn from which she escaped at the end of season 3. As soon as the spell wore off, however, Anna seemed to snap out of it.
“Once again, it feels like everything Emma’s fought to have and all the things that she’s made sacrifices in her life to have is coming to an end,” Jennifer Morrison, who plays Emma Swan, said. “Her parents aren’t going to be their true selves with her because of the curse, they’re not going to be their true selves with their new baby Neal because of the curse. Once again, the weight of the world is on her shoulders in terms of trying to find a solution. It does feel like a really scary goodbye, a very emotional goodbye and a very hectic goodbye because the curse is so close.”
As it turns out, Elsa and Emma will be immune to the Snow Queen’s spell because of their magical yellow ribbons which link their powers to hers. So, now the safety of everyone in Storybrooke falls on them. Will they be able to stop the Snow Queen before any real damage is done? “We have to put a plan in place that’s going to keep everyone separated from the loved ones that they could potentially hurt during the curse and give [those immune]a chance to stop it,” Morrison revealed.
Perhaps the scariest effect of the spell will come when Mary Margaret (Ginnifer Goodwin) and David are hit. Considering how in love they are, I can only imagine how ugly their spats will become. “He’s nasty,” Josh Dallas said. “He goes straight for the jugular. He doesn’t mince his words. Him and Snow White are pretty ruthless to each other. It’s just anything they can take and twist and they definitely do that.”
A s the official episode synopsis reveals, everyone is going to prepare for incoming spell in their own way:
“As the Spell of Shattered Sight approaches Storybrooke, Mary Margaret and David rally the residents to prepare for the curse while Belle and the fairies work together on an antidote. Gold, with Hook as his reluctant servant, sets about an exit strategy of his own. Regina and Robin Hood ready themselves for the worst while, with the help of a locator spell, Emma and Elsa search desperately for Anna. In Arendelle, Anna and Kristoff awaken to find that their kingdom is once again in danger.”
