Good vines go bad on today’s new episode of The Legend of Korra! Book 4, episode 9 “Beyond the Wilds” sees Korra further confront her issues with Zaheer while the world leaders come together to discuss the escalating Kuvira issue.

Warning: Spoilers ahead!

New airbender, Ryu, is giving a group of people, including his mother and father, a tour of the Spirit Wilds in Republic City. Eventually, the vines become disgruntled for one reason or another and end up kidnapping the entire group.

Back on Air Temple Island, Korra assures Opal that everyone does care about getting her family back, despite the fact that no one seems to be doing anything about it. At that moment, Jinora swoops in and tells them that she felt a strange surge of spiritual energy coming from the Spirit Wilds.

Together, the three gifts investigate, and while Korra can’t seem to sense the same energy that Kinora can, she does touch the vines and receives a vision of Kuvira and her army harvesting vines from the swamp. Opal and Korra rush off to tell the leaders while Jinora continues to search for Ryu and the others.

The world leaders, along with Lin, gather in a large chamber and discuss how they plan to deal with Kuvira. Raiko proposes playing offensive and taking the fight to Kuvira before she can come to them. However, Fire Lord Izumi refuses to involve the Fire Nation in another baseless war. Raiko decides to, instead, fortify the borders, to which Izumi happily offers her assistance.

At that moment, Korra and Opal rush in, but are struck by the sight of Prince Wu attending the meeting. Korra vocalizes her anger towards the group for having Wu at the meeting but not her. Before she can go any further, Bolin and Varrick rush in and warn the leaders of the weapon that Kuvira is building. Korra concludes that that must be why Kuvira is harvesting the spirit vines.

After the meeting, Bolin tries and fails to get Opal’s forgiveness for his siding with Kuvira. Lin later tells Opal that if they want to get their family out of the hands of Kuvira, they’ll have to do it themselves.

Back in the Spirit Wilds, Jinora learns that the group has been taken but is suddenly attacked by vines. She tries to escape but is quickly captured. Before the vines can take her away completely, she projects her spirit to Korra and Mako and tells them that she needs help.

Lin and the police force have set up a barrier outside of the entrance to the Spirit Wilds as the vines have become much more violent. Korra and Mako head inside to look for Jinora and the others. While inside, they find them all trapped inside strange pods and Korra believes that their spirits are trapped in the Spirit World. She projects herself there but is quickly overcome with visions of Zaheer trying to kill her. When she returns to the physical world, she decides that she needs to go confront Zaheer, once and for all. She figures that if she can see that he really doesn’t pose a threat to her, she’ll be able to move on.

Korra visits a chained up Zaheer in his prison and tells him that she is no longer afraid of him. He flies towards her, held back by the chains, and proves that she still is scared of him. He offers to take her to the Spirit World and help her free herself from her mental shackles. Korra is unsure if she can trust him, but Zaheer points out that they share a common goal right now. Korra wants to stop Kuvira and Zaheer hates world leaders. Together, they project themselves to the Spirit

World where Korra is, once again, overcome with visions of Zaheer trying to kill her. He talks her through it and soon the vision vanishes and she finds herself in the Spirit World.

After Zaheer leaves, Korra hears Raava’s voice and learns that she was always with her. At that moment, Korra’s eyes begin to glow. She then asks Raava if she knows where Jinora and the others are. Korra is transported there and uses energy bending to free the captured spirits.

Korra and Mako leave the prison and she tells him that she won’t be able to forget what Zaheer did to her, but she can finally accept it.

After a failed attempt to woo Opal, Bolin finds her preparing to leave on a Sky Bison with Lin. Opal tells him that they’re going to save her family and asks Bolin to come along with her.
