Idina Menzel recently spoke with The Telegraph about a possible Frozen sequel and her comments suggest that the project is already in the works.
When asked about the Frozen stage musical and Frozen 2, Menzel replied, “… they’re all in the works.”
Menzel believes that she will be asked back to voice Elsa for the film’s sequel, but also noted that she won’t be involved in the stage musical, saying, “Not the stage show – I don’t know what will happen with that – but the movie hopefully. We’ll see. I’m just going along for the ride.”
Disney would be foolish not to capitalize on the success of the Frozen franchise by releasing a sequel. Considering the amountof merchandise (like the upcoming Frozen chapter books) that’s currently available and the side projects (like the upcoming short film), its not as if there isn’t a demand for all-things Anna and Elsa.
Frozen grossed over $1.2 billion during its release in theatres and went on to become the fifth highest grossing film and the highest grossing animated film of all time. When the film was released on Blu-ray, it sold 3.9 million copies in its first week, which adds up to about $79 million in sales.
