Jennifer Lawrence is already one of the biggest movie stars on the planet with three Oscar nominations and one win to date. But, did you ever think that she’d be able to add “Top 40 Singer” to her ever-expanding resume?
In The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, Lawrence’s character, Katniss Everdeen, sings “The Hanging Tree.” Lawrence previously stated that she hates to sing in public and was a nervous wreck the entire day of shooting her singing the song for the film. “I do not like singing in front of other people. It’s like my biggest fear. I cried on set that day,” the actress told David Letterman on November 11. “That was awful.”
According to Billboard, the song is expected to sell over 150,000 downloads in the US during the week ending November 30. For the sake of continuity, November 30 was yesterday, but no new numbers have yet to be released.
If the song hits those kinds of sales, it should be enough to reach the top 40 of the Hot 100. A song’s position on the chart is also determined by airplay and streaming data.
“The Hanging Tree” has already reached No. 14 on the Official UK Singles Chart and No. 12 on ARIA’s Australian Top 50 Singles Chart. It was written by The Hunger Games author, Suzanne Collins, and Jeremiah Frites and Wesley Schultz of The Lumineers.
