Benedict Cumberbatch Officially Cast As Marvel's "Doctor Strange"
Marvel has confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch will take on the titular role in their upcoming "Doctor Strange" film.

After months of speculation, Marvel has announced that Sherlock‘s Benedict Cumberbatch, has officially been cast to portray the titular character in the upcoming Doctor Strange film.

Rumours have been circulating for a while that Cumberbatch was in contention for the role, but other names being thrown into the mix, like that of Joaquin Phoenix, seemed to diminish the chances Cumberbatch had to land the role.

“Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity,” said Producer Kevin Feige. “In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.”

Arguably, Cumberbatch will bring a huge, already-established fan base to an otherwise obscure and relatively unknown Marvel character. Chances are, the studio is counting on his wide appeal to help with the draw of the film.

Doctor Strange is scheduled to begin shooting in May 2015 at Pinewood-Shepperton studios in the UK. It is scheduled for release on November 4, 2016.
