Warner Bros. really wants Oprah Winfrey to take on the role of Amanda Waller, the Nick Fury-esque leader of the Suicide Squad, in the upcoming DC film.

According to Variety, other actresses apparently up for the part include Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer, but Winfrey is Warner Bros.’ first choice.

Amanda Waller is the leader of the Suicide Squad, similar to how Nick Fury is the leader of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the Marvel universe. She is responsible for selecting which villains will risk their lives on government missions, in exchange for reduced prison sentences.

The Amanda Waller has previously appeared in Smallville, played by Pam Grier, Green Lantern (2011), played by Angela Bassett, and Arrow, played by Cynthia Addai-Robinson.

Earlier this week, the all-star cast that will make up the Suicide Squad was announced and includes Jared Leto as The Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, and Will Smith as Deadshot. Cara Delevingne, Tom Hardy, and Jai Courtney will also appear.

Suicide Squad will open in theatres on August 5, 2016.

Do you think Oprah Winfrey would make a good Amanda Waller in “Suicide Squad”?
