The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies has already grossed a whopping $117.6 million at the worldwide box office during its opening weekend!
Despite the fact that the Peter Jackson directed film has yet to open in North America, it has still managed to bring in huge revenue for the studio. The film took in $19.5 million in Germany, $15.2 million in the UK, $14.5 million in France, and $13.4 million in Russia.
The first installment to the franchise, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, brought in over $1 billion during its run in theatres, while the second film, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, brought in more than $958 million.
I don’t think anyone would be that surprised if the latest The Hobbit film surpasses the $1 billion mark during its inevitable lengthy run in theatres.
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies stars Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Benedict Cumberbatch, Richard Armitage, Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lilly, and Luke Evans, and will open in North American theatres on Wednesday, December 17.
