In addition to returning to McKinley High for its sixth and final season, Glee is also welcoming five new characters to the fold.
TV Line recently released information on each new character and, from the looks of it, the showrunners are taking a different direction with new characters – at least different from the path they took when they introduced new characters in season 4 who were very obviously put in place to fill the void of certain stereotypical characters.
Noah Guthrie is playing Roderick, “described as a chubby and shy teen with a voice like Otis Redding. His looks don’t match with his talent. Described as, ‘a true goober.’ He’s the show’s new underdog.”
Marshall Williams is taking on the role of Spencer, the school’s new “football stud” who, like Finn, has an amazing singing voice. “He’s also gay,” TV Line reveals, “But, per the role’s casting notice, ‘he’s post-Glee gay — no one messes with him about his sexuality because he will kick their asses if they do.'”
Samantha Ware is playing Jane, “a righteous, ambitious and unconventionally pretty gal, she’s funny because she doesn’t have much of a sense of humor.” TV Line reveals that “She wanted to be a Warbler, but tradition kept her from joining — so she jumps ship to the New Directions.”
Billy Lewis Jr. is playing Mason, “the male half of a new set of twin Cheerios.” He’s described as a “super-positive and extremely weird kid gives off a gay vibe (spoiler alert: he’s not).”
Laura Dreyfuss is taking on the role of Madison, a new member of the Cheerios (along with her twin brother Mason). Like Mason, she’s also described as super-positive and extremely weird.
Glee‘s sixth and final season will premiere Friday, January 9 with a two-hour premiere at 8PM EST on Fox!
