Scarlett Johansson Will Return As Black Widow For “Captain America: Civil War”

Scarlett Johansson Will Return As Black Widow For "Captain America: Civil War"
It has been confirmed that Scarlett Johansson will return for "Captain America: Civil War," the third installment to the "Captain America" film franchise.

Though Scarlett Johansson won’t be getting her own Black Widow film anytime soon, recent updates from directors Anthony and Joe Russo have confirmed that she will return for Captain America: Civil War.

While speaking at a press event in Beijing, the duo confirmed Johansson’s presence in the film:

“We’ve been preparing for the movie since the one debuted last year. So, we’ve been working on it for a long time now. We’re very happy how it’s coming along. Captain America 3 is gonna be called Captain America: Civil War and it’s going to star Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson will be back, Winter Soldier will be back, and Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man will also be joining us in the next film.”

The fact that Black Widow has yet to get her own spinoff film has been a huge source of contention for Marvel fans, who feel that despite her strong presence in the Marvel cinematic universe, the character is being unfairly treated because of her sex.

At an event in Hollywood, back in October 2014, Marvel announced plans for 9 new films, including a Black Panther solo film, a Doctor Strange solo film (starring Benedict Cumberbatch), a Captain Marvel solo film, and an Inhumans film. Despite the fact that Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and Captain Marvel have yet to make appearances in the modern Marvel films, the three yet-to-be-seen characters have already been given the go-ahead from the studio to get their own solo movies.

If you’ve yet to see it, make sure to see Scarlett Johansson kick ass as Black Widow in the recently-released second trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron.

In addition to Johansson, Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Robert Downey Jr., and Anthony Mackie will all be returning for the third Captain America film. Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Daniel Bruhl, and Frank Grillo (Crossbones) will also join the cast.

Captain America: Civil War will hit theatres on may 6, 2016!
