Despite the fact that her performance in Cake received rave reviews from critics, Jennifer Aniston was not nominated for a prestigious Academy Award.
It seems like almost the entire entertainment industry was left in shock when Aniston’s name wasn’t called out at the nominee announcement ceremony on Thursday. Considering she was nominated for both a Golden Globe, a Critics’ Choice Award, and a Screen Actors Guilde Award, most people were expecting Aniston to be a shoo-in for a Best Actress nomination.
Access Hollywood caught up with Aniston on the red carpet of the Critics’ Choice Awards and spoke about her reaction to the Oscar snub heard around the world:
“I’d be lying if I said there wasn’t a little, ‘Ohhh,'” Aniston revealed. “But then, after that, there’s a lot of… look at tonight, look at the [Golden] Globes, look at SAG. We’re like an embarrassment of wonderful riches. A movie that hasn’t even been released and is teensy tiny. I mean, this is just all kind of cherries on top of something that was really special to us. So, we’re really excited.”
Aniston also revealed that both Reese Witherspoon and Julianne Moore, who were nominated for the Best Actress Oscar, sent her really “sweet” e-mails. “They’re amazing women,” Aniston gushed. “You know, we’re all rooting for each other, and it doesn’t take away the work that was done. It doesn’t take away any of that.”
Despite everything, Cake has yet to even be released in theatres and is set to arrive on January 23, 2015.
