When I look back on past episodes of my favourite shows and see recognizable actors I’d never noticed, I get a little tingle. I can’t explain it. In the words of Mean Girls‘ Janis Ian, “it’s like seeing a dog walk on its hind legs.”

When I noticed Orange Is the New Black‘s Lea DeLaria on Friends, I almost choked on my iced coffee. Almost.

The episode in question, “The One with the Lesbian Wedding” from season 2, sees DeLaria’s character hitting on Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) at Carol and Susan’s wedding reception. Phoebe, the eternal question mark, doesn’t realize her true intentions and casually goes along with her when she suggests they get a drink.

DeLaria’s IMDb page lists her credit on the NBC series as simply “Woman.” So not really the most profound role she’s had, but amazing nonetheless.

DeLaria is now best known for her role as Big Boo on Netflix’s OITNB, a character she has portrayed since the show’s premiere back in 2013. Her role on Friends was from 1996. Sixteen years later and she’s still going strong.

Get it, Boo.
