When January hits, not only will a new year be upon us, but new additions to Netflix Canada's library of television shows and movies will emerge.

For fans of Chelsea Handler, you’ll be happy to know that the comedian’s talk show, Chelsea, will return in April. Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, starring Neil Patrick Harris, lands January 13, while season 2 of Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments sees a new episode drop weekly, starting January 3.

Riverdale season 1 will add to the teen drama when it starts airing weekly episodes on January 27. Coin Heist, a Netflix original film starring Pretty Little LiarsSasha Pieterse will be released on January 6.

Let’s not forget the major Hollywood films joining the online streaming service’s ranks: Disney’s Alice Through the Looking Glass will be available on January 11, Big Hero 6 will be released on January 7, Jupiter Ascending will be released on January 5, and Captain America: The First Avenger will be released on January 25.

Last call on Netflix

Unfortunately, not all news is good news. In with the new also means out with the old. Dexter seasons 1-8 and Friday Night Lights seasons 1-5 will both bid farewell on January 1, while Zero Dark Thirty and Superbad will take their final curtain calls on January 4 and January 29, respectively.
