I Fixed 30 Depressed Years (With Food!)

Published

on

By

google news

I’d been depressed for most of my life. Before I knew the word, I thought I was just sad, but it never went away.

My life was filled with reasons to be depressed – abusive parents, mentally ill mother, and more. But this went beyond. I spent hours each week thinking of ways to kill myself.

“Depression is the most unpleasant thing I have ever experienced. It is that absence of being able to envisage that you will ever be cheerful again. The absence of hope.” – J.K. Rowling

I tried meditation, personal-growth seminars, positive thinking, you name it. My mood would change temporarily, but the all-too-familiar depression always returned.

Have you ever had a problem you couldn’t solve, no matter what you tried?

The Unlikely Source of My Solution

Somewhere in all of this, I had written an article for the newsletter of the fitness club where I worked. It was on insulin resistance. A woman walked in, clutching the article, and demanded an appointment with the author.

So that’s how I met This Woman. She worked with drug addicts and alcoholics and kept them successfully in recovery by using the effects of foods on their brain chemistry.

Fascinating, right? I learned all I could from her, then started studying on my own. Little information was available on the topic – this was a long time ago – but I kept reading.

I’ve never been addicted to drugs or alcohol, but began to make changes in my own diet. My situation starting evolving.

One morning, for example, as I waited for my personal training client to arrive, I noticed I was feeling… fabulous. No other word for it. I’d never felt that good before.

Things kept getting better. My health improved. I no longer caught colds, got the flu, or had other nuisance health issues. The monthly pain I had suffered with virtually disappeared.

And the Depression?

Sometime later, I ended up in a fitness seminar with other people – mostly women – who mentioned their “down” moods and mood swings. That day, I realized I never felt depressed anymore. Never thought about it, never worried about it. It was no longer part of my life.

Needless to say, I don’t miss it.

Now I have a PhD in how foods affect brain chem, and I use my powers for good! I’ve helped many clients with physical health problems – but have also helped my clients reverse anxiety, depression, poor focus, and mood swings. Over time, I’ve made it easier and easier for them to do.

Walking, Water, and Weight Watchers: The 3 W’s for Weight Loss

Published

on

By

google news

I have been seriously working on losing weight for about 2 1/2 months and many people have asked me what I am doing to be so successful. I reply, “The 3 W’s for weight loss!” Of course they don’t know what the 3 W’s of weight loss are so I quickly tell them, “Walking, Water, and Weight Watchers.” I know this isn’t a formula that will work for everyone but it sure is working for me! Water is an essential fluid needed by everyone, walking is an excellent form of exercise, and Weight Watchers is a world renowned weight loss organization that has helped millions of people lose weight and keep it off for good.

Walking:

Walking is a feel good calorie burning exercise that most of us have been doing for the majority of our lives. Other than a good pair of walking shoes and comfortable clothing, it doesn’t require any other equipment, so the price it right! But the most impressive thing about walking is the health benefits it provides. Walking is easy on joints and actually eases back pain in some people. It has the ability to lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol levels, reduce the risk of diabetes and heart disease, build muscle and strengthen bones, and of course it leads to weight loss! Try to walk at least 10,000 steps each day!

I have lost 24 1/2 pounds so far but aside from the weight loss, walking daily allows me to mentally unwind and I feel that it lowers my stress levels. The funny thing is that the more I walk, the more my body and mind seem to crave it. Walking has become a very healthy habit for me

Water:

A recent study indicated that after drinking 17oz. of water, both men and women experienced a 30% increase in their metabolic rate that lasted for about 40 minutes.

A few months ago, I quit drinking soda and replaced it with water. I can already feel a difference in my skin tone and of course it is helping with my weight loss efforts because it fills me up and I am less apt to overeat. Drinking water daily is definitely a habit now and I feel much better because of it! Drink 8, 8oz. glasses of water each day to boost your weight loss efforts!

Weight Watchers:

Weight Watchers was founded in the early 1960’s by Jean Nidetch. She started off by hosting small informal gatherings in her home to discuss the topic of weight loss. Those small meetings grew over the years and now Weight Watchers has grown to a worldwide community comprised of millions of people that are dedicated to the task of losing weight.

Weight Watchers is a scientifically based program that promotes weight loss through healthy lifestyle changes to include mental, emotional, and physical health. Weight Watchers meetings are designed to provide weight loss motivation, information about nutrition and exercise, and a comfortable environment where members and leaders offer support and encouragement to each other. There are hundreds of meeting locations worldwide and Weight Watchers is now offered online as well.

My Weight Watchers leader is fantastic and I look forward to going to my meeting each week. She not only is a wonderful role model, having lost 45 pounds herself, but has the natural ability to bring out the best in all of us that faithfully attend her meetings. She arms herself with scientifically based research, her own weight loss story, motivational quotes, exercise advice, and recipes; all which she wraps in a warm sense of humor to provide us with the tools we need for the upcoming week.

If you have been frustrated with past weight loss attempts, give the 3 W’s of weight loss a try. It is the healthy way to lose weight and I am sure you will be pleased with the results!

Contact me at with your success stories at [email protected] (no matter what weight loss method you have used) and I will post them on my site!

Positive Public Service: 5 Necessary Priorities

Published

on

By

google news

It’s easy to complain about politics, our political system, election process, quality of candidates, and/ or, representation, but, unless/ until, the emphasis and focus, becomes, defining and understanding what, public service, means and represents, and why we need to demand 5 necessary priorities, are constantly, addressed, etc! Surveys, and polls, inform us, Americans have less faith in their elected officials, today, than at any time in recent memory, and perceive, less integrity, or any attempt to prioritize serving and representing the needs, goals, priorities, perceptions, and best interests of constituents, and seem to emphasize their own personal/ political agenda, and/ or, self – interest. With that in mind, this article will attempt to, briefly, consider, examine, review, and discuss, 5 essential priorities, which are needed, and we must demand.

1. Equal protection of all Constitutional guarantees, and rights: How often, do we observe, some politician, who tries to wrap – himself – up, in the Constitution, and American flag, apparently, to attract voters, and votes, only, to later, notice, his actions, don’t match his rhetoric? When, one supports, certain rights, and guarantees, selectively, it is not the American Way! Many realize, we often witness, either, intended, or, unintentional, systemic racism, as it relates to protecting, equally, many of the rights, especially, in terms of, justice, jobs, etc!

2. Public health and safety: When the President, articulates a message, calling for, Law and Order, it seems, to many, this is really, urging, an appeal, to his core supporters, and their fears, etc! We have noticed, during this horrific pandemic, the danger, when a leader, doesn’t seem to prioritize our public health and safety! Don’t be fooled, by Trump’s claims, he deserves an, A+, for his handing of this pandemic, because, an average performance, would have created an infection, and fatality rate, similar to the rest of the world. Unfortunately, although our population represents less than 5% of the world’s, we have experienced over 20% of the cases, and deaths!

3. Medical/ healthcare: Right or privilege: Is quality, medical treatment, and healthcare, a right, or a privilege? Presently, it seems clear, the health care, provided, to our wealthiest, is, significantly, different, from the treatment, provided, to less wealthy! Should access to, and being able to receive, quality, medical treatment, and healthcare, affordably, be a right, or, merely, a privilege, based on one’s socio – economic status?

4. Equal justice/ protection of law: Statistics indicate, minorities are rarely, provided, the same protection of law, and equal justice, as others! Shouldn’t we demand, an essential component of public service, be, ensuring, we honor, the premise, of, all men are created equal?

5. Spell – out one’s vision, strategic and action plan: Instead of empty promises, and rhetoric, we must demand, candidates, clearly, spell – out, their vision, and rationale/ reasoning! They must explain the essence of their strategic planning, and how, they might, perceive, conceive, and implement, the finest, possible, valuable, action plan!

We need our public officials, to provide, quality, positive, public service, and representation! They must emphasize these 5 necessary priorities, and always, put, the best interests of their constituents, ahead of any personal/ political agenda, and/ or, self – interest!

Coronavirus COVID-19: What To Make Of It and What To Learn From It

Published

on

By

google news

So, what is COVID-19 trying to tell us?

  1. Pay attention

No other virus, war, natural disaster or other similar adversity has managed to draw the COLLECTIVE attention in such a powerful way for a very long time. The question what exactly we need to pay attention to is complex (as there are many things that we have been sweeping under the carpet). But isn’t it wonderful that we are forced to slow down, stay home, and (hopefully) reflect without distractions on what is important, what is valuable and what is worth spending our life on. Of course, if we waste this valuable time on watching cute puppies and posting stupid videos on Facebook instead of paying attention to what really matters, we are seriously missing the point here.

  1. We are in all connected (otherwise known as “A lesson in Oneness”)

If we ever needed proof that we are all connected and that everything we touch (literally as well as metaphorically) is connected to everything else, now we have it. Finally (and hopefully) a big realization is starting to dawn on us: we can no longer continue to “pee” in one end of the pool (i.e. the Planet) and go swim in the other end thinking that our shit won’t catch up with us. We all swim in the same pool and whatever we do in that pool does come back to us. Thus, taking “dirty” production out of Europe into China (and this is just one of millions of examples of separation) cannot and does not serve Europe (or any other continent for that matter). For the shit inevitably comes back, as the virus spread is illustrating clearly. Incidentally, isn’t it remarkable that a situation that calls for social isolation (i.e. apparent separation) in fact intensifies the feeling that we are all connected, that we are all in this (and every other thing) together!

  1. It’s time for renewal

Old structures need to be torn down so we can start fresh (hopefully with new awareness albeit with little resources). On the face of it, it is not accidental that the virus has so far targeted the life of primarily old people with one, two or more pre-existing conditions, i.e. these are people that should have been dead a while ago if it weren’t for the artificial ways of extending life. But the artificial life-saving resources are now running out (no breathing machines, no medical personnel or other supplies). So that should make us rethink the life-saving technologies that so many people have come to rely on and have, as a result, relinquished personal health responsibilities. What about focusing on disease prevention plans instead (when the pandemic is over): healthy eating, exercising, meditating, etc.? How many people would have heart disease and diabetes (the two top conditions that go hand-in-hand with coronavirus deaths), if there was no junk food or modern stress?

  1. Get comfortable with death by making every moment of life count

Death in and of itself is not a tragedy. Rather, a wasted life is a tragedy. A person who has lived with integrity, has contributed meaningfully to themselves and to the society, and has maintained quality relationships during their life time, has no regrets. This kind of person is ready to die anytime, and happily. Become that person yourself. Re-evaluate your priorities and start spending time on what matters. Let go of the grudge. Start to feel that you are connected to all other human beings. Forgive. Feel more love and less resentment. Stop living a tragic life and your death won’t be tragic either. They can both be a celebration.

So these are some of the messages I think we need to hear right now. Of course, there are many other things to be taken into account and much more will be revealed to us in the course of this experience. That’s why we need to stay flexible, observe carefully (pay attention), ask smart questions and continue to search for their answers deep within. This way we are really taking advantage of the situation by cleaning up our own baggage. Any other behaviour (e.g. impatience, frustration, anger and looking forward to this blowing over so things can go back to “normal”) is immature. We need a shift in consciousness (to shift the virus) and if we resist it, the virus will persist.

How Did Don Vierra Become the World Renowned Consultant in Health Information System?

Published

on

By

google news

For those in Health Informatics, the name “Vieira” might not sound strange. Immanuel Antonius, professionally known as Don Vieira, is a successful and independent consultant who has reached horizons beyond expectations. The 32-year old Technoprenuer has ticked off projects, which most consultants still consider as a dream. While he was brought up in Namibia, his expertise and skills were never limited to the boundaries. If Namibia is his primary home, his work stations or contracted duty stations have become the secondary residence where he used to spend most of his days.

As far as his academic background is concerned, he holds an Honors’ degree in Computer Science, Advanced diploma in Monitoring and Evaluation, certifications on Health Information Systems (HIS) and A masters’ degree in Biometrics from the University of Paris – Est créteil in France.

Like people dream of being associated with tech giants such as Facebook or Google, he achieved the milestone of serving for similar giants in the health sector. Some of his notable associations are with World Health Organization (WHO), Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), United Nations (UN), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), IntraHealth International, Global Fund, Population Service International (PSI), Jay Snow Inc. and the list goes on.

Apart from his experience in healthcare informatics, language is one of those factors that contributed to his stature elevation. His understanding about seven languages, including English, Spanish, French and Portuguese, has helped him deal with people from different backgrounds. In other words, there has never been any force that stopped him from achieving his goals across the borders.

With Ten (10) years of experience, he has built and supported several national systems such as the e-Health, Malaria, TB, PMTCT, Nutrition, VMMC and HIV- just to mention a few. He also trained more than 20,000 people including government officials, managers, nurses, doctors and technical people to bring significant changes in their methods of elevating the quality of life for the public.

Vieira has developed strong professional relationships with several organisations in Kenya, Uganda, Mocambique, South Africa, Namibia, Angola, Germany, India, DRC, Zambia and the United States. Most of them used to admire his determination and skills for giving the best in every area.

If he is assigned to a work, there is no force that can stop him from transforming a novice into an expert. Below are three of some of the notable milestones that gave a kick start to his career:

1. A Discrete Choice Experiment for pharmacists- he worked with Dr. Peter Rockers, an assistant professor in the Department of Global Health at the Boston University School of Public Health, to bring visible changes in the health informatics. At the time of experiment, Dr. Peter Rockers was at Harvard Medical School.

2. Vieira wore the big shoe when he took over the position of HIS Technical Advisor from Jim Sitzer, who went to become the Director in Public Health for the Umatilla County Health Department, Oregon in the US.

3. During Vieira’s venture as a Technical Advisor for JSI, he developed a web-based master facility (MFL) for Namibia. It consists of a map indicating the location of all public health facilities in the country. The list aims to assist public locate services provided by the nearest health facilities, on the other hand, it also aims to guide the ministry of health in planning and equity in resource allocation and distribution. The MFL was built based on WHO guidelines

Due to internet connectivity issues in most rural áreas, the Health Extension Workers were forced to use paper registers to collect patients’ information. This led to poor data quality since paper would torn or get lost. With an urge to find an appropriate solution, he created a mobile app that has the capability to store data without internet connectivity.

Over the past few years, Vieira has won few accolades and gained international recognition for his consultancy expertise. His efforts have also managed to attract new audiences including influential decision makers from government authorities to NGOs. His passion for innovation and Technopreneurshipis what that has always made him different from others.

For his next project, he promised to create what most government bodies and NGOs have failed to implement- “The Situation Room” that will bring new changes to the health sector.

Three Steps to Reducing Fear of Coronavirus

Published

on

By

google news

As Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread, many people are feeling powerless, unsafe and downright terrified about what may be coming. We want to take action, to take back control, but we don’t know what to do. So our fears magnify, making us less rational, and this puts added stress on our bodies at a time when we all want to be strong.

Fear itself is very like a virus. It replicates, and it passes from person to person. Fear breeds panic. This not only undermines us as individuals, but also sabotages the mechanics of society, which now more than ever needs to be efficient.

However, if you know how to reduce your fear, this keeps your mind clear, promotes wellbeing and helps those around you to remain calm too. It’s a win-win situation! We have to wait and trust in science to solve the physical problem, but we absolutely do have control over the mental and emotional aspects, even in extreme circumstances.

So, how do you do this, when your fears are intense and out of control?

Here are my three steps to reducing your fear and maintaining your calm in times of crisis:

1) The first step is to pull back your power; this is a technique I teach to promote calm and reduce anxiety in many situations. You can learn this very easily.

Close your eyes, take a few slow breaths, and allow yourself to become aware of any fear or anxiety you are feeling – maybe it’s a fear of the virus itself, fear about a report you just heard on the news, or fear for consequences to yourself or your loved-ones. Picture that fear outside of your body, out in the world.

Now imagine a wire running between your chest and the source of your fear. On the wire is threaded a brightly coloured ball, like a beach ball. This is the ball of your power and at the moment your fear has the power and you are powerless.

In your mind’s eye, reach out, grab that ball and pull it along the wire right back into your chest, focusing intently on the ball as you do so – the focus is very important. Now keep your focus on the ball of power within your chest. Hold that focus for as long as you can.

As you do this, you get your power back, and your fear loses its power over you. You will begin to feel calm returning, and your mind will relax.

2) Now that your mind is calmer, it is time to create a new empowering mindset. Deep in our subconscious minds are ancestral fears around plague, and these old patterns have been triggering within us. Our subconscious minds do not understand that things have changed since then.

The truth is that the Coronavirus is thankfully NOT plague as our ancestors knew it. Our living conditions and our scientific expertise are light-years away from those times. We have many factors in our favour which make direct comparisons with the past inappropriate. Yes, we have a global challenge, but we are resourceful and have brilliant minds capable of finding a solution. As you continue to breathe gently, imagine breathing in these truths and breathing out all those old ancestral understandings that have been triggered within you. Imagine your subconscious mind being updated with accurate 21st century information.

3) Finally, bring in the understanding that the more you keep your fears in check, the lower your body’s stress will be, and the better you will be able to deal with this threat and any other. Taking this action to reduce your fear and anxiety really does keep you safer. Hold that understanding in your mind for a few moments and then open your eyes and carry on with your day.

Go through this procedure each time your fears start to grow. It only takes a couple of minutes but it can have a profoundly beneficial effect on your mental and emotional wellbeing.

When you take action to pull your power back from the fear, your mind feels safer and clearer, your anxiety and stress reduce, and you are in a much better state to deal with the situation.

Just as fear replicates, so does calm. When you hold this positive mindset, you will help others to do the same, and this is in turn will help us all create the best possible outcome in this challenging time.

Good Healthy Food And Its Advantages

Published

on

By

google news

The advantages of eating good healthy food is that you provide your body with the nutrients it needs to function efficiently. This eliminates much stress, stops food cravings and prevents disease.

The common western diet is around 50% processed food and 40% animal protein. The cooking of animal protein alters the protein, making it more difficult to digest, assimilate and eliminate. Animal protein does not contain a wide variety of complex nutrients.

That leaves just 10%, or less, of real food. It is impossible for your body to function well when only 10% is nutrient rich food.

Not only is it impossible, it ensures you remain hungry all the time, increasing the chance of snacking. This inevitably leads to weight gain.

Cruciferous vegetables are one of the most complete foods there are. They are in the brassicaceae family of plants and include root vegetables, leafy greens and flowers. The common ones are broccoli, kale, cabbage, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, arugula, watercress, horseradish, collards, turnip greens, kohlrabi, radishes, daikon, chinese cabbage, bok choy, chard, rapini, wasabi and rutabaga.

They are rich in fiber, macro minerals, trace elements, vitamins, protein and omega 3, phytochemicals and antioxidants.

The green family members are especially healthy. The cruciferous vegetables all have a slightly spicy or pungent aroma and/or flavour. This comes from the sulphur containing compound, sulphaphane.

Sulphaphane is known to:

  • protect cellular enzyme activity
  • induce cancer cell destruction
  • targets cancer stem cells
  • heals the blood/brain barrier
  • reduces chronic inflammation

It’s interesting that these are the favourite vegetables for fermenting, which enhances the healing abilities of the vegetable.

The benefits of a regular supply of these vegetables include:

  • eliminating heavy metals
  • neutralising harmful chemicals

This is comforting in our current age of high toxicity, poisons, chemicals and environmental degradation.

The best way to eat good healthy food is to eat it fresh, and if possible raw. Growing your own vegetables can ensure the freshest supply.

Eating it raw can be a challenge. Often it is an acquired taste. But here is one recipe that may tickle your taste buds.

Combine freshly squeezed orange and lemon juice. Allow finely chopped kale to marinade in this overnight.

Healthy, delicious!

When you start to eat good healthy food, you find that you may suffer a little in the first week. This is normal and natural. After this cleansing and detoxing process is over, your find you have more energy, feel clearer and brighter and continue to improve. The desire for unhealthy food diminishes and fades altogether.

Penis Health and Frottage: Safety Tips

Published

on

By

google news

Frottage is defined in a number of ways. Some people mean “dry-humping,” or rubbing the genitals against another person while both are clothed; some people use the word to describe the highly illegal and immoral practice of rubbing oneself against others in a crowd for sexual pleasure. Here, frottage will refer to the act of two or more bodies rubbing together clothed or unclothed to achieve sexual stimulation.

Since it is a type of sexual activity that involves no penetration, some may think that the practice is 100% safe. Yet that may not be the case. In the interest of maintaining optimal penis health, men need to know the risks associated with this activity.

Pregnancy?

Anytime a man’s semen enters a woman’s vagina, there is a possibility of pregnancy. Researchers still aren’t sure if pre-seminal fluid can cause pregnancy, but it may be able to do so. This means that people engaging in genital rubbing may still run the risk of conceiving if they allow the man’s fluids near the opening of the woman’s vagina.

STIs?

Sexually transmitted infections can be passed through skin-to-skin contact or through bodily fluids like penile or vaginal discharge, or blood. Some STIs that can be contracted through bare frotting are herpes, HPV, HIV and pubic lice.

It’s always a good idea to ask sexual partners the following:

– When were they last tested, for what, and what were the results?

– Have they had new partners since then?

– How well do they know their past partners’ sexual histories?

– Do they use condoms with other partners?

Other Infections

Jock itch is caused by an overgrowth of the tinea cruris fungus and is a common groin rash among men. Though it rarely impacts women, it is possible for the fungus to spread to them.

If a woman has a yeast infection, she can pass it through her fluids to a man. Even if he’s not penetrating, if she is wet and his penis gets her fluids on it, it’s possible to contract the yeast infection.

Chafing

Rough, dry skin is a common result of friction, and there’s no shortage of friction while frotting, especially if partners are doing so clothed. The vaginal area may become sore and raw, as may the penis. Both these results often come along with penetrative sex as well.

Safety First

Frotting partners will be safest if they take precautions against possible health issues related to the practice. If pregnancy is not desired and the partners are engaging in genital rubbing, it’s a good idea to use condoms even though penetration isn’t occurring. This can also help prevent the spread of any infections that may be in the area, although it doesn’t guarantee this.

Another thing couples may want to do is use lubricant while frotting. This can help prevent a lot of dry skin and chafing issues. If wearing clothes, try to avoid rough materials like denim and garments with buttons or zippers.

Men may overlook the importance of skin care, but maintaining healthy penile skin is imperative not only for the look and feel of the manhood, but for its ability to sense pleasure as well. That’s why it’s a good idea for men to use a quality penis health creme (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil). With both Shea butter and vitamin E, this crème is a fantastic moisturizer made specifically for the penis. It also includes acetyl L-carnitine, which protects nerves from the kind of damage that often comes with rough handling. This may help men maintain a high level of sensitivity, meaning a more pleasurable sex life. Keeping the penis in peak condition is always advised, and doing so is easier with Man1 Man Oil.

Bending/ Breaking The Pandemic Curve: 5 Things We Each Should Do!

Published

on

By

google news

With, the exception of those, who claim, to continue to deny the existence of this horrific pandemic/ virus, have experienced, nearly a year, unlike any, in recent memory (and, not, in a good – way)! Most have either, personally, been, either exposed, or infected, or know someone, who has either, experienced some of the ill – effects, or died! Instead of these numbers, becoming less fear – inducing, we are presently, experiencing, in nearly all parts of the country, the worst numbers, to – date, both in terms of cases, and/ or, fatalities. Sadly, the United States, with approximately, 4.5% of the world’s population, has experienced, close to one – quarter, of all the cases, and nearly 20% of the deaths! However, even, after all of this, we continue to witness, far – too many individuals, who, for several reasons, seem unwilling to accept, we each possess personal responsibility, to be, truly, socially responsible, and take, the necessary steps, to attempt to, at the very – least, bend – the – curve, until the vaccines are provided, to a large percentage of the public! How many more, must die, or suffer, severely, before most of us, do so? Stop complaining about public health restrictions, and complaining about your so – called, personal freedoms, and consider, the health, and well – being of the public, should, and must, become the top priorities! With that in mind, this article will attempt to, briefly, consider, examine, review, and discuss, 5 things, each of us, should do, to become part of the solution.

1. Wear a mask: If you have been wearing a mask, continue, doing so! If you have resisted, start considering the bigger – picture, and the public, common good, instead of, only your short – term, immediate comforts, and conveniences! Every study, clearly, indicates, if most people wore a mask, over 90% of the cases, would be reduced! Stop being selfish, and realize, we do so, not merely to protect ourselves, but for the greater good!

2. Social distancing: It’s normal, and healthy, to want to mingle, and have a greater degree of intimacy, with others, but, if we hope, to return to any degree of normal behavior (whatever, that means), until/ unless, we beat this virus, it is wise, and safe, to honor, social distancing, because, since this is, predominantly, an airborne – virus, it should be common sense, and courtesy!

3. Avoid crowds: How many times have we seen, when large crowds, have gathered, especially, when most weren’t wearing masks, it tends to have the potential to become a super – spreader, event? Politicians, who have ignored these, for the political advantage, have harmed the public! Even, house – parties, have shown, dangerous ramifications!

4. Follow suggestions of public health experts: Instead of listening to what you want to hear, pay close attention, to what you need to know, and behave accordingly! It is way, past – time, for us, to, merely, do what, we find, serves our preferences, and/ or, personal agenda, etc, and realize, it makes sense to follow the suggestions/ guidelines of the public health experts, rather than any elected official (even one, who states, he is a stable genius)!

5. Get vaccinated: Even, the greatest vaccine, unless most people, get vaccinated, won’t have the desirable results! The experts claim, these are, among, the safest vaccines, developed, and are effective! Don’t be stupid!

Unless/ until, most of the public, begins to consider others, instead of only, their personal preferences, etc, we won’t break this curve, and stop seeing the horrific results! Do, what’s right!

As the current situation with COVID-19 developing and spreading fast, more and more companies are opting for their employees to work from home so they can comply with the social distancing protocol to help in the battle of spreading the virus. The virus is spreading through people so social distancing is a measure that governments implement to try and slow the virus down and make sure it’s under control.

Many people are struggling and don’t really know how to setup an efficient home office during the Coronavirus outbreak that will make them as creative, productive and efficient as they were in their offices. It’s a real challenge because most people who are commuting to work have already developed routines that they are used to and working from home isn’t ideal for them but we all have to adapt to the situation and try to make the best of it. It’s best for all of us keep ourselves motivated, connected and productive during this crisis so that we can come out of this entire situation in the best condition possible and keeping up our work schedule can help us a lot, not just from an economic standpoint but also keep up our spirits.

While every single job is different from each other and working from home will be different depending on what your profession is there are some things that would apply for everyone so we prepared a few things that you’ll find extremely useful when you don’t know how to setup an efficient home office during the Coronavirus outbreak.

Essential Hardware

Just like in your office you may need some hardware in your home so you can successfully work efficiently and have everything you need around you so you can get the job done properly.

The first thing you will need, while it’s not a piece of hardware, it’s extremely important to start with and that’s a working space. Basically, it’s an area in the house where you’ll do your work and only your work. A place where you’ll associate with working and you won’t have any distractions or at least limit them as much as possible. If you have an entire room to dedicate to this, than great but if you don’t, make sure you find the place that is furthest away from the kitchen and as far away as possible from the TV so you’re not tempted to turn to it and see what’s on from time to time. It’ll be very distracting. Of course some music playing in the background might not be distracting but if it’s too loud it may lower your working capacity. Once that’s done and ready, you’ll need some software and hardware set-up around you depending on your job.

Stable Internet Connection

For your connection to be as stable as possible, you’ll need to get a good router that will be fast and have a good Wi-Fi signal. If you don’t have one already, it’s crucial to get one because it’s the most essential piece of hardware that will keep you online and make sure that you stay connected with all your colleagues and you can effectively do your job from home. There are some quite fast but also not too expensive routers available on the market so it shouldn’t be a problem finding a good one.

Headset

A good headset is also a good idea to have in case you have a work where you need to communicate with your colleagues constantly. Imagine having one that is constantly glitching or transmitting unclear nonsense both way. You won’t be able to do your job properly and on top of it all you’ll really get angry. Aside from a good headset you’ll also need to get a software that your entire workplace has on which everyone will be online and available so you can call or text each other all the time. An application like Skype will do the job just right.

Printer

Depending on your job, a printer may be necessary as well. If you have a lot of documents to be printed out, signed and scanned or faxed somewhere getting a printer that has all of these options is crucial and there are a bunch of affordable options both online and in local stores.

Coffee Machine

While this may not help you do your job per se, a coffee machine that makes great coffee will save you from heading to the first coffee place and working from there because you need a good cup of coffee to get your more focused and ready to start your workday. While it might not seem like an essential part of the home office at first it’s something that you’ll appreciate a lot when you’re feeling the need for coffee.

Comfortable Chair

Since you’ll spend a lot of time sitting down it’s advantageous for your back to get a chair that will be comfortable and keep your body in the right position so you don’t develop any back pains. Getting something to make sure your monitor is in the right eye height when you work will help with keeping the correct posture too. Keeping yourself healthy and preventing any conditions developing from sitting too long should be a priority.

Stick To Your Working Habits

Once you’ve learned how to setup an efficient home office during the Coronavirus outbreak with the proper hardware and your work space is ready to be used, you need to make sure you have a routine that you’ll be able to stick to. It’s usually best to keep up with the same working habits you had when you were actually in the office because you’re already used to working at that time. So, working from home doesn’t mean you should work whenever you want and stretch everything that you need to do for the day through the entire day and even into the night but stick to the working hours you kept in the office. Another thing you need to do as well is do all your morning preparations just like you’re going to the office. Don’t just wake up and sit in front of you PC or laptop and start working in your pajamas. Wash up, dress up and do the exact same thing you’re doing when everything is normal because the routine you were doing before is preparing you mentally for the job you need to do and it’ll help you a lot to get in the right mindset for working. Changing your clothes from pajamas is essential here even though you’re home. It doesn’t have to be a suit but putting on different pants and a shirt will help you feel like you’re at work.

Avoid Doing More Things When Working

Multitasking is something that many people believe makes them faster at what they do but more often than not it’s not the case. Try to focus solely on your work even though you’ll have many distraction you can do around the house that might involve all kinds of chores that you’ve been putting out for a long time. Since you’re at home it’s easy to get distracted by something like this and just abandon your workspace for a long time. Sometimes even a short distraction can stop your train of thought and make you forget what you were working on. You should also prepare your lunch and snacks just like you’d do it when going to the office so you don’t waste any time preparing your meals in the middle of your work which may cause more distractions and be counterproductive.

Get Fresh Air

Although you’re working from home and we’re all advised to stay inside, getting some fresh air without exposing yourself to big social groups is something you have to do to keep up your health and spirits. Just like when you’re in the office and you go out for a half an hour lunch break, you should do the same when you’re at home. Take the proper break and go eat in your yard or take a walk around your neighborhood just to stretch your legs and breathe in some fresh outside air and even catch some sunlight that will surely freshen you up and make you feel much better than being stuck in your apartment all day. You can even get a cup of coffee from your coffee machine and drink it while walking around enjoying your work break. Going out and walking is also good for your back and posture because, as we said before, sitting around for too long might cause back pains that are really uncomfortable and even if you have the best ergonomic chair it may not be enough.

Take Breaks Often

Another thing that you can do to be as efficient as possible when working from home is to take breaks whenever you feel like you need one. Maybe after every completed task or every hour. Short breaks will prevent you feeling like you’re tied to your chair at work and ensure that you’re not sitting down for long hours. Sometimes even taking a 5 minute break every 25-30 minutes is a great idea as well according to research that discovered that these short breaks are much more advantageous than longer breaks that are less frequent.

Set Strict Rules For Yourself

By this we mean, make sure that your work stays at work and not stretch into the personal part of your life and interrupt with your family or free time. It’s much easier to this when working from home because your workplace is just a few steps away and you might be tempted to work a little bit before going to bed so you can finish a little bit of the work you will have tomorrow but it’s really a grey area that might get out of control and before you know it, turn into you working all the time and have no time for yourself or anyone else in your family. It can be very harmful, especially to your social life and you shouldn’t take this lightly and make sure you follow the rules you set for yourself so you don’t get to a situation where you are unable to balance your work with your life.

Mentally Prepare For Disruptions

This is especially important if you’re not living alone and have a family. Preparing yourself mentally that you’ll be interrupted will save you a lot of time in explanations and conversations trying to stop them from happening. They won’t, especially if you have children because they’ll want to spend time with you and they won’t understand that you have to finish before you’re able to give them your complete attention. Going in with a plan will ensure that this situation isn’t making you angry or annoyed and it will bother you much less when you’re ready for it.

Conclusion

Having the right hardware and set up so will ensure that you’re able to do your job as efficiently as possible while maintaining proper posture and not endangering your health.

Sticking to the same working habits you had when you had an office is beneficial for you because you’re already used to that routine and it’ll be an easier transition to do everything else but commuting to work instead of changing the entire routine or skip parts of it.

Whenever you work, make sure you’re not focused on other things as well and trying to multitask because it will not be productive or efficient.

Also, it’s advantageous to occasionally get some fresh air and get out of your home and take short breaks more often than longer breaks which are less frequent.

Preparing yourself mentally for interruptions is also something you need to do because they will happen if you have a family that is living with you in the house. Having a plan for this will save you a lot of time and it won’t bother you too much because you’ll be ready and expecting it.

It’s a real challenge to go through this rough times and adapt your routine to work from home while retaining the productivity, efficiency and creativity as you had in your office but it’s very important that we properly adapt to this so that we can come out on the other end with as less “bruises” as possible. Following the tips we shared with you above will surely help you a lot when setting up your home office and prepare you for the challenges you’re going to face.
