Putting a stop on the rumor train, it’s now been officially confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy director, James Gunn, will helm DC’s Suicide Squad 2 movie. Yes, you heard that right. Warner Bros has just recently confirmed that the director has now started writing the story for their film.

After being fired by Disney from Marvel Studios, he was approached by its rival, DC, and since then there were strong predictions that he might end up joining the ‘Worlds of DC’ for its new film. And as expected, it’s happening now.

According to BBC’s Newsbeat, the sources close to this matter told that the director ‘has an eye’ to direct the sequel to 2016’s super villain team-up flick. The first Suicide Squad, directed by David Ayer, was a disappointment with the critics, gaining poor reviews but was a very commercially hit film with the audiences. It grossed around $746 million worldwide.

But an even more surprising thing is that Dave Bautista, the actor who plays Drax in the GOTG movies, has also offered to join Gunn on his new DC project. Bautista asked Marvel earlier in August, to release him if they didn’t use the script written by James Gunn for Guardians of Galaxy 3.’

Dave Bautista has always been in support of the director and after he was fired, he along with the rest of the cast of the Guardians of Galaxy, namely Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel, had signed an open letter in support of James Gunn, to force Disney to bring him back. But the move didn’t go as well as expected.

James Gunn had tweeted posts mocking pedophilia and rape, back in 2009, but had apologized for them in 2012 itself. But lately, this year in July, a right-wing online website Daily Caller published them and brought those tweets in limelight on social media, after which Disney, which is a family-friendly entertainment company, fired him spontaneously.

But now that James Gunn has actually joined DC, it will be highly interesting to see whether he is able to pull off Suicide Squad 2 in a great manner or not. He made Guardians the most popular superhero characters among the fans in Marvel, so DC’s expectations will be high too.

Fans of the GOTG and James Gunn had also filed a petition, previously to Disney, to bring the director back. But that too didn’t happen.
