Lenovo, after a long period of void, finally launched new phones in India, yesterday. The launch event took place in Delhi. The company has gone for the mid-range and budget segment this time also (which it usually targets), unveiling two new phones, Lenovo K9 (the successor to the last year’s K8) and Lenovo A5.
Lenovo K9 Specs
Firstly talking about the Lenovo K9, then the highlight of this phone is the Quad Camera setup-that is, dual rear and dual front cameras.
The K9 comes with a 5.70inch HD+ display, having an aspect ratio of 18:9 and protected by 2.5D glass. For performance and daily tasks it’s got a MediaTek’s MT6762 (or simply HelioP22) octa-core processor, clocking at 2.0GHz. It is a good and efficient chip. The RAM is 3GB and internal capacity is 32GB.
When it comes to connectivity, then the K9 really surprised everyone having a Type-C port for charging and file transfer, since very few phones offer a Type-C option in budget range. There is also the option of expanding storage, with a microSD card slot which can push the capacity up to 128GB. The phone also supports dual-SIM, Wi-Fi, LTE, Bluetooth, and also has a 3.5mm audio jack.
The battery is not very large but decent one, at 3,000mAh. Though, the previous version, Lenovo K8, had a huge 4,000mAh battery.
The phone runs on Android Oreo 8.1 out-of-the-box, layered in Lenovo’s own ZUI theme. Sensors include the ambient light sensor, proximity sensor, accelerometer, and a fingerprint sensor too.
But as mentioned above, the highlight of the phone is the camera setup. It has a dual rear camera setup on the back as well as on the front. On both sides, there are 13MP+5MP lenses-and both of them have flash support. Both cameras support portrait feature which can also be adjusted while taking a picture.

There is another budget range phone, which was launched alongside K9, and it is the A5. It comes up with a 5.45inch HD+ IPS display, having an aspect ratio of 18:9.
It is also powered by the MediaTek’s chipset, which is an MT6739 quad-core processor, clocking at 1.5GHz. This phone comes in two variants, one with 3GB of RAM/16GB storage and another one with 3GB of RAM/32 GB storage.
Connectivity includes dual-SIM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3.5 mm audio jack, Micro USB port for charging and data transfer. The storage can also be expanded with a microSD card that can push the storage up to a huge 256GB. Sensors on the phone include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, and proximity sensor. There is also a fingerprint sensor. The battery though is a large one at 4,000mAh.
The phone runs on Android Oreo 8.1, skinned with Lenovo’s ZUI 3.9 custom UI.
The A5 has a single rear camera of 13MP (f/2.2 aperture), with autofocus and also monochrome flash. On the front, there is an 8MP lens (f/2.2 aperture).
