Worlds of DC’s ‘Aquaman’ has already become a huge blockbuster, even before its official US release. In China, the James Wan movie is smashing records at the box-office. In its opening weekend only, it earned around a whopping $94 million!

The movie has also beat the mark set by the previous DC installment in China, 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which made a total of $96 million its entire theatrical run at the Chinese box-office. Currently, Aquaman has earned an estimated $108 million in China. It has also become the best DC movie in China, going past 2017’s Justice League’s $106 million.

The movie’s opening weekend’s collection was the fourth best for a superhero flick ever, in China. It was only behind this year’s Venom, and last two ‘Avengers’ installments, that is, Age of Ultron and Infinity War.

It is also about to beat some past superhero flicks, in China, like Doctor Strange ($109 million), Thor: Ragnarok ($112 million), Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($115 million), X-Men: Days of Future Past ($116 million), and Spider-Man: Homecoming ($116 million). And it will do it soon, maybe by today or tomorrow.

After these superhero movies, it will also have a task of edging out X-Men: Apocalypse ($120 million), Ant-Man and the Wasp ($121 million), and Iron Man 3 ($122 million), Captain America: Civil War ($180 million), Avengers: Age of Ultron ($240 million), Venom ($261 million), and Avengers: Infinity War ($360 million).

Talking about Aquaman’s reception, then the movie is also getting praises from critics too (exceptional and after a long time, for a Worlds of DC movie, since Wonder Woman). Currently, it is sitting at a great score of 76% on rating portal Rotten Tomatoes, while on IMDb, it has a stellar rating of 8.3/10.

The film is directed by James Wan, distributed by Warner Bros., and stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry/Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Nicole Kidman as Arthur’s mother Atlanna, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, and Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko.

The movie will be releasing on December 21st, 2018 in the US, while in India it will be arriving early, this week itself, on December 14th, 2018.
