Summer Vacay Prep – How to Get Holiday-Ready

Summer vacation season is upon us. July and August are the hottest dates for the ultimate summer adventure. People work so hard throughout the year and they can’t wait for the summer to come so they can head to the beach and soak up the sun.

If you belong to the group of people who will soon depart to their destination of choice, you have to think of a few things before the pre-holiday excitement sets in.  A proper vacation prep checklist will remind you to take care of the most important things. It is better to take care of everything before we hail a cab to the airport.

Here’s what you should definitely think of before you leave for your next vacation:

At least one month before…

Plan your entire vacation one month before your flight

In order to truly enjoy your well deserved time off, try to plan your days in advance. Get to know the destination by googling all the relevant information. Get yourself familiar with the history of the town so you won’t miss the important monuments. Search for the best beaches and look for popular activities. Find the best authentic restaurants so you can try the food you’ve never tasted before. Plan to visit at least one neighboring town or village so you can see other popular sights and take a break from sunbathing.

Also, try to find at least one of off-the-beaten-path beaches so you can enjoy nature and avoid the overcrowdedness. This will wake up that hidden adrenaline junkie who wants to enter into the unknown.

Make sure your Google Map is up to date so you can navigate the unknown areas with ease and without the fear of getting lost.

Never forget to check if your documents are up to date

Make sure your passport or any other personal documentation is in order and up to date. Also, make copies of your passport, credit cards and anything else that can be easily lost. Keep it in a safe place in case of any unwanted holiday emergency. Additionally, inform a person you trust, be it a friend or a family member, of your travel itinerary. These are just precautionary steps and hopefully, your holiday will go just as you planned it.

Be realistic about your budget

Being realistic about your budget will help you stay within planned expenses and avoid all other unnecessary ones. Make sure you divide your budget per each day of vacation so you can easily track your expenses. If you stay within your day’s budget you won’t spend more than you planned. If you’ve spent less in a day than you are allowed to, you can always spend that on another day.

It is also advised to have an emergency amount of cash you can use in case there are some unexpected spendings.

Get-Holiday Ready

It’s important to stay healthy when traveling, so make sure everything is in order before you go. First of all, research the country you will visit. Make sure to know everything about health risks and stock your first aid kit for general emergencies.  Purchase a travel health insurance plan because it has so many benefits that you will find invaluable when you need it most.

If you are going on a month-long vacation, you should also check your health. Visit your GP at least 4-6 weeks before your trip. They will recommend vaccines you might need and refill your current medications. You should also find time to visit your dentist at least two weeks before your trip. A dentist will assess your oral health and recommend proper treatment if there is something that should be fixed. Dental treatment away from home can be difficult to find and expensive, so make sure to visit trusted professionals like Penrith Dental Clinic and make sure your smile is vacation-ready.

Vacation Prep With A Leaner Diet

Going to a beach resort will surely make us body-conscious. A month before going on a vacation is surely not the time to purchase a gym membership or start a diet. The idea is to go on a holiday full of energy and not to risk your health just because you must fit into that bikini!

The best way to approach your own summer body prep is to just go on a leaner diet. Just try to eat healthy as much as you can, avoid fast food and processed meals, limit sugar and alcohol intake and drink lots of water. Do the essential holiday shopping and pack your luggage

Packing is yet another thing that you should plan according to the location and weather conditions. It is best to plan a layered wardrobe in case the weather might change. In case of a beach vacation, make sure to pack light fabric and pieces of clothing which can be washed easily and dried quickly. Don’t forget to weigh your luggage before your flight as airlines have strict guidelines.

When it comes to shopping for some new and trendy vacation pieces, focus on the things you really need and avoid buying pieces just because they are on sale.

Prepare your home

A day before, clean out your fridge and remove everything that might go bad by the time you return. Freeze the ones that have a longer expiration date and toss out everything else that won’t be edible by the time you come back.

This will definitely remind you to take out the trash, too. If you don’t do this, you risk coming back to a smelly house and a pest invasion. After you’ve cleaned out the fridge, taken out the trash, make sure everything is nice, tidy and clean. You won’t be in the mood to clean your home when you come back, you will probably feel those post-vacation blues and the last thing you’d like to do is dusting and vacuuming. Make sure to do this before you go.

A few minutes before you go, check your windows, pull up the curtains, unplug electronic devices, remove the spare key and lock the door. In case you are one of those people who always question themselves if the door is locked, have someone take a picture of you while you are locking the door. This photograph will remind you that you locked the door and that you can finally relax and look forward to some time off.

Set up your vacation responder

Lastly, don’t let your work emails distract you while you are sipping your favorite cocktail at the beach. Let your coworkers or clients know that you are on vacation by setting up a vacation responder. By doing this your email client will automatically respond to all received messages. You’ll simply let them know that you are on vacation and that you’ll respond in great detail upon your return. You will avoid receiving unnecessary follow-ups because you did not respond. It will also let them know that you are a professional and that you’ve thought about this before you went on a holiday.
