Random events in Old School RuneScape make the game feel more alive and vibrant. Besides the usual quests that you need to take to progress and earn more OSRS gold for your character, random events are like those meaningless, yet charming, side quests that let you get to know the NPCs better and even have a personal connection with them. Some are humorous, while others tell a more serious tale. Overall, they’re like those in-between snack breaks that you get to have in the middle of class. Here, we’ll be talking about what random events are the most memorable and how these mini-quests actually work.
Random Events, affectionately called “randoms” by players for short, consist of NPCs in certain areas that can interact with a player’s character by giving short but entertaining quests. These mostly occur whenever an NPC will give an item to a player or request them to play a mini-game and reach a required score to get a prize. If you feel pressured to take all of the random events, don’t be. You can simply right-click the event and dismiss it. You can also just wait until the event disappears by itself after a minute or two.
The emergence of random events actually started in RuneScape 2 with the goal of eradicating the fatigue system in RuneScape Classic back then. The fatigue system was a highly controversial game updates as it was a bot-catching system that affected all of the activities that you do in-game. What happens is that whenever you try to do any skilling activity or skill guides, it would increase your fatigue rate which was displayed in percentages. Once you reached 100%, you would automatically be unable to earn XP or collect resources. This was extremely problematic for players who were into Fishing spot, Mining, and Woodcutting, as it literally blocked you from gaining XP to level up your skill training. Luckily, they replaced this system with the random events that we now have!
What Random Events You Should Do
The Maze is one of the random events that we highly recommend you do. This event can happen at any given time. Talk to the Mysterious Old Man to have a chance to compete in the maze. The goal here is to reach the center of the maze for you to get the rewards. While it may not look like much, the Maze is actually one of the few puzzling events that are actually fun and engaging. The rewards are various types of resources. These include Coins, Mithril Ore, Death Runes, Chaos Runes, Law Rune, and Nature Runes among others.
The most popular random event is none other than the Genie event. The Genie can randomly appear before you and give you an experience lamp. This lamp can be used to raise the selected skill of your choice by over 10 times the level it’s currently in. The reason this aggressive random event is so popular is simply that it’s a chance to get free XP without any effort.
Random events are great time-killers or distractions from the everyday routine of farming Old School Runescape Gold(OSRS gold). We hope that Jagex will someday be adding new random events, but there’s no news for now whether or not that will become a reality. Do you enjoy doing these random events?
