If you are an expat looking to purchase a car in Oman and are unsure where to begin, you have clicked on the right article. If you want to move around in Oman, there are plenty of options for you to choose from. If you do not mind getting from point A to point B without making any stops, then you can simply use public transport. But if you want to get the full Oman experience and move around the country spontaneously, then getting your own car is the wise thing to do.

You can always rent a car in Oman if you are here for only a few weeks. But if you are going to stay longer then renting a car can prove quite expensive. In that case, you should consider buying an affordable Nissan Oman car as they are quite popular in the country. But to own a car in Oman, you will have to meet the following requirements:

  • You must be a resident of the Sultanate State as you cannot buy a car in Oman on a visit-visa.
  • You will need to get a driving license in Oman.

If you do meet these requirements, you can go to a dealer with the following documents to purchase a used or new car:

  • Original Passport and its copy (Must include a copy of the visa page)
  • At least a couple of passport photos that your dealer might ask for
  • If you are working in the Sultanate, you will need a copy of your labor card (In case you are not there for work, you must bring a sponsorship certificate)
  • Your driving License and its copy
  • A vehicle purchase form which you can get from your car dealership or a police station
