What Are Penny Auctions?

Published

on

Recently a friend introduced me to a series of sites claiming to sell valuable items for extremely low prices. Having never heard of Penny Auction and Reverse Auction sites, I was rather skeptical. The idea that anyone is going to sell an Xbox 360, iPod Touch, or PS3 slim, for change is rather farfetched. But after further investigation I have to say their claims were largely true. There are sites, such as Biddor and Swoopo, that will sell you items for pennies on the dollar. There are also sites like BidBlink, which runs reverse auctions, where you can not only win items, but get paid to win them. There are however some catches.

Penny Auctions do have a built in fee. Most auctions charge between 60 cents and one dollar a bid, selling bids in sets of twenty or more. That means for every bid you place you pay a small fee. Each bid increases the price some amount. Sites like Biddor and Bidray increase the amount by one penny. Other sites, like Swoopo, increase by six cent, or twelve cents, depending on the value of the item. On most of these sites there is also a timer, which increases with each bid cast. Generally this time is between ten and thirty seconds. So it is not that they are selling a 720p LCD TV for $5.00 as much as the mass of people bidding, means that the penny auction winner gets a few hundred dollar discount.

The other way these sites are run is “reverse auction” in this case each bid lowers the price. Again you pay a set per bid fee. With a reverse auction, such as the ones at Bidray, your account gets credited whatever amount below zero the item may reach. If the item does not drop below zero, you pay whatever the remaining amount is. In most cases this is still between 10% -25% of the normal price. Other auction sites like Winnit choose a winner based on the lowest unique bid, providing you with hints to help you guess the right amount winning you the item at that price.

All of these sites provide an auction style rush, and give the participants a chance to win items for much lower than you would pay in any store. Sites advertise winners who have won brand new Wii, PS3, and Xbox games for less than $3.00, or LCD TV’s for less than fifty bucks. While for most of these sites this is true, there are things to be wary of.

Now your limit: Getting caught up in the auction can cause you to end up bidding more than you planned. Knowing how much you plan to spend ahead of time is a good system.

Reputable Sites: Bid sites like Swoopo, Biddor, Bidray, and Winnit are run by reputable businesses offering a fun and exciting entertainment shopping experience.

The last thing is to know what the site offers. Some sites offer Bid Butlers, which will allow you to set up automatic ranges your computer should bid for you in. This lets you stay competitive and in the auction, while not exceeding a certain price range. Also know if the site covers shipping. Winning a 37″ LCD TV is nice, but paying $40 in shipping makes it a little less exciting (though still a good deal).

Grass Colors and What They Mean

Published

on

By

Everyone knows that grass is green, but did you know that your lawn can change its color slightly throughout the year? The color of grass depends on the environmental conditions – how much sun and rain it gets and what the soil is like. Most subtle color changes are harmless, but if your lawn seems to be changing color drastically it could be a sign of an underlying problem. Below are some colors your grass may go, and what they all mean.

Dark Green

Dark green grass is a sign that it’s producing lots of chlorophyll – this is a sign of a healthy plant. It’s got enough nutrition to produce chlorophyll and thrive. Your grass may turn a darker green during the spring and summer when it has lots of sun, especially if you’ve fertilized during the spring. Make sure your lawn has enough water and you should have a lush green garden all summer long.

Yellowish

Yellowish grass isn’t producing much chlorophyll because it isn’t getting enough of the right nutrients from the soil. You may need to use a fertilizer to get the green color back. The best time to fertilize is during the spring and autumn, as this gives the grass time to take on nutrients before its main growing and ‘sleeping’ phases. If the fertilizer doesn’t work your grass may have a disease.

Red

A red tinge to your grass could mean several things. Sometimes it’s just a sign that the grass isn’t producing a lot of chlorophyll. If your grass turns red during autumn and winter, wait for the warm weather to come round again because this might cure the problem. Some grasses, like Ryegrass, have a natural reddish hue so check what species your plant is. Red can also be a sign that the plant is under stress – this could be because of environmental conditions, or it could be because of disease.

Orange

Orange color is normally produced by fungi that live on the grass plant. Rust disease for example leaves orange-colored spores that come off if you rub the grass between your fingers. They’re harmful and can kill the grass, but they usually don’t kill the whole thing off. If you do have rust disease you’ll need to treat your lawn to minimize damage.

Tan color

By the time your grass goes tan it’s most certainly dead. Tan grass has been scorched and dried out in the sun, shriveled due to lack of water, or mown too harshly and succumbed to damage. If you’ve looked after your lawn and it’s still dead it’s probably been a victim of disease.

You should always try to make sure your grass has a healthy growing environment, as this may halt or reverse the color-changes you see. Make sure your lawn gets enough water and nutrients and ensure that you mow correctly. A stressed lawn is prone to weaknesses and this is when negative (although reversible) changes can occur. If nothing works then you should assume your lawn has a disease and look into that instead.

What is the Average Reading Speed and the Best Rate of Reading?

Published

on

By

The average reading speed of a child in primary school is around 200 words per minute (wpm). By the time we reach adulthood, it hasn’t improved very much, as, on average, most adults read at a rate of about 200 – 250 wpm. While comprehension at this rate is considered reasonable, at 250 wpm it will be difficult to read large amounts of information in a short period of time.

Certain individuals claim to read at speeds of 10 000 wpm or even 25 000 wpm and say they are still able to understand all they have read. Even though rates like this may be achieved by these exceptional individuals, a speed of 1000 – 1200 wpm is the rate at which contestants read at the World Championship speed reading competitions. Therefore, if your average reading speed comes anywhere near this rate, you can consider yourself doing fantastically well. Do not feel that you need to reach championship levels in order to achieve your learning and reading goals. It is up to each and every individual to decide how far to push the speed limits!

For a person interested in increasing his abilities, a goal of 500 – 800 wpm is an excellent target. At this rate it is possible to get through large quantities of work in a short time and maintain a comprehension level of about 75% or more. This is an excellent level of comprehension and probably more than adequate for any of your required purposes. Compare this to the average reading rate of adults (200 – 250 wpm), where their comprehension level is only half or slightly more of the material they have read.

800 – 1000 wpm would be an outstanding achievement. In order to have reached this level, an individual may have invested in an excellent speed reading course and practiced speed drills. Believe it or not, comprehension at this level is also outstanding, reaching levels of 100% or very close to 100%.

Results of 100 – 200 wpm is considered a basic reading rate. In adult terms this is a below average speed, but for children between the ages of 6 and 12, it may be considered as average. Only low levels of comprehension are achieved at this rate. An adult who reads at this pace will be amazed at what some of the simple techniques will do for his reading speed. Reading at any pace below 100 wpm will probably be read by someone who is still learning to read or perhaps by someone who is reading in a second or third language. At this rate comprehension will be difficult.

How Can I Make Real Money Online?

Published

on

By

How can I make real money on line? This is the question that a lot of people who are internet marketers ask. You see, there is so much hype about how you can make tons of money without having to work for it online.

The truth is that you can make money online without having to do any work. However, it will not happen overnight and it will take some time before you start seeing results.

If you are willing to put in the time and effort then there is no reason why you cannot start to see some profits.

If you have been on the internet for a while now then you have probably seen a lot of different business opportunities. However, the overwhelming majority of these businesses require you to invest a lot of your time and money into them.

So you ask, “How can I make this kind of money?” I am going to tell you.

First, if you are looking at making money on the internet then you should have a website or at least a blog. This will be your hub for everything that you do. It is also where you will be marketing your products and driving traffic to your site.

There are a lot of different ways to get traffic on the internet. However, you need to know which ones are the proven ones. For example, pay per click advertising is one of the most common ways of driving traffic to your site.

This requires you to spend money on advertising. A lot of times, this will not yield a lot of money but it can help you build a decent list.

You will also have to put up with a lot of traffic snags when you first get started. This is because you have just gotten started. This means that you are still trying to figure out how to make money online.

You may not know it yet, but that is going to be the case for a while.

One of the first things that you need to do is find out what kind of hosting company you will want to go with. You will need to decide which kind of server you want your site on.

There are literally hundreds to choose from. Your best bet is to try and find one that fits your budget.

Once you have found a good host then you can start setting up your site. There are a number of tools that are offered to help you with this process.

These tools will help you build a professional looking site in a matter of minutes. Once this part is done, you will have to focus on putting together your first copy of your content.

Once you have your site online, it is up to you how you promote it. There are a lot of ways that you can advertise your website. You can do this either with paid advertising such as Google AdSense, or you can get your website out there for free.

One of the best ways to do this is by simply submitting it to free classified ads sites. The more traffic you are able to drive to your site, the more money you will make.

When you are trying to make a real income from online, it is important that you take the time to learn how to properly monetize your website.

This is what will make you money. Without proper monetization your online business will fail. You should be able to choose between pay per click advertising, or contextual advertising, or even affiliate marketing.

As you look for the right way to monetize your site, it is important that you only ever get involved with businesses that have a legitimate reputation.

If you are going to be an affiliate marketer, it is important that you don’t just jump in with both feet and try to make a lot of money that fast.

Instead, it is wise to become a reputable marketer in order to avoid scams. Many people get involved in affiliate marketing without taking the time to become educated about it. This can be a huge mistake.

There are many programs out there that promise to help you earn large sums of money. However, there are a lot of these programs that are either scams or they simply do not work.

To avoid becoming one of these people, it is best if you spend some time doing your research before signing up for any program. This way, you can stay away from any scams, and you can also find a legitimate opportunity that works for you.

Getting Temporary Or Short-Term Car Insurance Coverage

Published

on

By

If you are looking for short term car insurance you should know that you may not even need it. If you are thinking about getting car insurance for a short time period you are probably about to rent a car or borrow a vehicle…

Renting a car:

The rental car service will offer you some form of accident protection, liability insurance, loss damage waiver, and/or personal effects coverage. You do not need any of these offered insurances as long as you have your own car insurance because the insurance coverage you have on your car transfers over to the rental vehicle. It, however, does not transfer over if you are using the auto for some sort of business trip (something that is not recreational). In the following list you will find each of the 4 rental auto insurance possibilities and why you should probably skip each one…

Liability Insurance: All car insurance comes with liability coverage, which will transfer over to any car you drive. Keep in mind that liability coverage does not protect you, your passengers or you car, but those around the car (pedestrians, property, and other cars on the road).

Loss Damage Waiver: This protects the rental car from damage or loss. Some LDW’s only cover damage to the car if you are found to be innocent in an accident. Regardless, getting an LDW is pretty pointless if you have collision coverage (which would pay for repairs to the car regardless of who is at fault) and comprehensive coverage (which pays for damage or done to the car from things such as theft and collisions with wild life).

Personal Accident Coverage: It is very likely that you do not need this type of coverage because you either have health insurance, Medical Payments Coverage, or Personal Injury Protection.

Personal Effects Insurance: Your renters or homeowners policy will pay for the loss of items not only in your residence, but outside of it as well. If you want to insure something expensive, however, be sure to fill out a floater for that specific item.

If you are not absolutely sure if you are covered by your own car insurer, read your policy and, if you don’t understand something, give your auto insurer a call. You should also know that if you pay for the rental car using a credit card, the credit card company may provide short term coverage for that automobile.

Borrowing a car:

A lot of folks wonder if they need short term or temporary auto insurance if they borrow someone else’s car. Generally, no you don’t. The borrowed person’s car insurance coverage will transfer over to you as long as he or she gave you consent to use that car, making getting any type of short term car insurance useless. However, there are some things to keep in mind…

The liability insurance of the person from whom you borrow the car may not be enough to pay for liability damage that you cause while driving their car. If you have your own car insurance, this probably isn’t an issue. If, however, you don’t have your own car insurance and are held responsible for property damage of bodily injury liability fees after an accident, the liability insurance that is transferred over to you may not be enough. Say you cause $25,000 in damage and the lender’s liability coverage only goes up to $20,000. You are responsible for the additional $5,000, unless you have liability coverage yourself, which is at least $25,000.

You can easily correct the aforementioned problem by getting a non-owners auto insurance policy.

How to Shop For an Endzone Camera

Published

on

By

Choosing the best endzone camera for your team might not be quite as straight forward as you may have thought. You could go straight for one of the well-known makes, such as Hi-Pod or Endzone Video Systems, simply because you know that other teams use those models with systems like Hudl.

However, jumping straight in and buying an end zone camera based solely on the fact that you know the name won’t guarantee that you get the best video camera tower for the best price. So, before you spend your team’s money on an end zone camera tower to use with Hudl, check out these important features that you should look at before you buy.

Software options

Before we get on to how to shop for an endzone camera, you might be asking the question; what is Hudl? Hudl is one of the best known video coaching software systems on the market and the company provides software, such as Hudl Football and Hudl Soccer, which enables coaches to analyze and share video footage of games and practice sessions. Hudl is not the only company in this market, though, there is a company called Krossover, which supplies similar software, and there is also a fairly new entrant into the market called VideoChamp Sports, which has been getting some extremely good reviews.

The camera

The first thing to think about when you are buying a video camera tower is the camera itself. If you already have a good quality video camera, you will need to make sure that the camera is compatible with the endzone tower equipment. If you don’t have a camera, be sure to check the specifications of any sports video camera tower that you look at, because not all manufacturers include a camera in their package.

Innovative design features

Some of the more established suppliers have pretty much stayed with the same design for many years. It’s well worth looking at some of the new innovative designs, which include the use of carbon fiber poles, which are lightweight and very strong, and swivel-poles, which make moving the camera for one angle to another much easier.

Check the weight

The weight of the various models of endzone camera systems can vary quite considerably, so check how much the whole unit weighs and how easily it can be packed away and carried. As a guide; 50 pounds is probably about the maximum weight that you would want to go with.

Look the battery charging options

Look at the battery life of both the viewing monitor and the cameras, and look what the battery charging options are. Some of the newer, more innovative designs of endzone cameras and remote control cameras have solar battery packs included, which can be great for using in long practice sessions when you can’t get to a power outlet.

Look at the quality of the viewing monitor

The quality of the viewing monitor is also an important consideration when you are shopping for the best endzone camera. You will get the best viewing results from a high-resolution LCD monitor that is at least 7 inches square.

Stability

For good picture quality, and for safety, you need to make sure that a video camera tower is going to stable and that it can be securely anchored to the ground. Look for systems that have independently adjustable legs, so that it can be set up level on uneven ground, and it should also have a full range of anchoring equipment, including straight stakes, spiral stakes, anchor-bags, and spike pegs.

Check the accessories list

When you are comparing the different models of endzone video camera tower systems, make sure that you are comparing like for like. Some suppliers don’t include anywhere near the same number of accessories with their tower units as others do. When you are looking at the price of video camera towers, be sure that you know what is included in the package and what you will need to purchase separately.

What is Retirement?

Keeping a Journal

As we grow and age in this life, we seem to have generalized goals for specific periods of time. The first 18 to 25 years can be set aside for education and training. From 25 to 35 could be called the period where one gets married and raises some kids. From 35 to 55 or 65 is where one focuses upon one’s work or career. And then you come to the age of “retirement”. What actually is “retirement”? Of course, ideally, it means that finally you can stop working and simply “enjoy” your life with your spouse. Your kids are grown and on their own and you nor longer have to go to “work” each day.

But what “is” retirement? All of the previous sections in a life are full of detailed descriptions. But “retirement” is somehow left rather vague. One would think that retirement would be the long-awaited GOAL of life. But instead we are left with the vague image of a rather portly man playing golf and drinking “at the club” and the female enjoying raising her grandkids. But what if you aren’t a golfer (or a drinker) and your grandkids don’t really need you to raise them. Hmmm.

There actually is a specific purpose to be accomplished within the period called “retirement”. But it isn’t generally discussed in the media because it has to do with “Spirit”. The period we call retirement is actually the period where one should review their entire life experience. What have you actually learned from your 65 + years of life within this 3-d hologram called life on earth. What has “Mary” or “Jim” actually learned in this life? How have you been able to grow your soul.

And this brings me to the main topic: keeping a Journal. It doesn’t really take very much time and you don’t have to be a talented writer. You just have to keep some form of notes about your life experience as it is happening. And here’s an interesting thing I’ve discovered (having kept a journal for over 50 years). Among all my notes detailing specific patterns of stress and lists of complaints I have noticed that from time to time a detailed “paragraph” or two will sort of pop onto the page that really has nothing to do with what came before or after. Suddenly a deep “insight” will sort of appear. And then, just as suddenly it will stop and the notations will return to my patterns of general complaint and detail my frustrations with one thing and another. And then, a week later, maybe a couple of months later, the sudden appearance of another “deep” insight will appear again. It might simply be a paragraph or two or it may be an entire page. And, in rereading my journals I find that this seems to happen on a semi regular basis, although at the time of the writing I am relatively unaware of the “insights”.

And here’s the rather amazing part. I have gone through my journals with a yellow marker and noted where and when these isolated “insights” appear. And then, I find that they are all connected! It seems like a vase that has been shattered long ago with the pieces scattered across time. Or, in another way of looking at it, it is like “I” am keeping two journals. One is my current day to day personal list of frustration and complaint and the other is from a higher perspective. But the “higher” perspective is still “me”. It is just my viewpoint from a higher frequency of Mind. Some might call this a gift. Some others might call it celestial schizophrenia. But it is not uncommon. We all are having multiple conversations with “ourselves” all the time. But we are often too distracted by life’s continual drama to pay attention.

Now to many people a journal is simply a “male” euphemism for a “diary”. And as we know, many young girls keep diaries while in middle school or high school. But likewise, most early nautical explorers kept diaries except that they were called the ship’s log and it detailed their adventure and served as an historical document. I would suggest that you think of yourself like an early explorer off on a dangerous mission that has never been attempted before: the personal exploration of your life! Think of your journal as your ship’s log.

I would also suggest that should journaling “catch on”, some day in the future these journals will be studied in Universities around the world as historical documents. “What was life really like in the 21st Century.”

But who has the time to actually press pen to paper in this world of constant distraction and immediate gratification? Well… no need. If you own a computer or a smart phone you can simply install a voice to text program or App and you will suddenly have a personal secretary to take down every relevant thought and your secretary will work 24-7 for Free!

Now that is what I call “Retirement”.

***

Here is a list of five specific suggestions for readers who haven’t kept a journal but now find themselves in the “retirement phase” of their life:

1. List every address you have ever lived at. Describe each location in detail as best you can recall.

2. List all the “forks” in the road of your life. These don’t have to be particularly good or bad, they are merely position points where a choice was made that changed all that came after.

3. List all the “Close calls” you’ve had with Death. Everyone has those “events,”which happen in their life that could have quite easily resulted in their demise but didn’t. Call it “fate” or simply good luck. Describe each of these in detail.

4. Describe your life in 5 year increments. Start at the age of 5. What do you recall (if anything) between your birth and the age of 5. Then move on and recall what you can between the ages of 5 and 10. Don’t go into 11 or 12. Keep it firmly in 5 year increments. And do this until you are within 5 years of your current age.

5. Create a “Reverse Bucket List”. A “normal” bucket list, would be a list of things you want to do in the future. In the case of a reverse bucket list, go over your life and select things that you have already done or accomplished. Things that you enjoyed or are proud of and list them “as if” you hadn’t actually done them yet but list them as things you want or hope to do or accomplish at some time in your life.

How Do Businesses Use the Art of Storytelling?

Published

on

By

Storytelling is an essential part of human communication and is a powerful marketing tool. It sways shoppers by increasing brand awareness and attracting new customers. The story you tell controls how customers remember your company.

Creating a unique brand story on social media involves sharing it on multiple social platforms. If you create a story that connects with potential consumers, they will read and engage with the information you provide. This often results in readers recommending your products and services via clicks, tweets, likes, and follows.

Know Your Customers

To create engaging stories think about who is reading the story, not who is telling it. First, understand who your followers are before developing a story. Building customer personas will help you know your audience. Create these personas by gathering data about your audience through social media, Google Analytics, and interviews.

Matching your audience’s desires, needs, wants, and dreams to your business story, will help you build rapport. Talk about things your followers can relate to or emphasize with; this will enable you to build trust with your audience.

Tell Your Story Many Times

Growing your business, using storytelling will take time. Tell your business story and its related versions on multiple platforms every chance you get. You’ll also want to incorporate elements of your story in podcast interviews, public speaking, and in press interviews.

Be honest and open. This builds trust and creates an actively engaged, customer base, which wants to hear more. Telling your story is more about sharing about the highs and lows of your brand’s journey, which is valuable to your audience.

Tell Your Own Story

Storytelling boosts your brand personality, and it cements a stronger brand perception with potential clients. Telling a unique business story will attract clients. Use a friendly and conversational tone to narrate your story. Prospect followers and clients will feel like they know your product if your story resonates with them. This will help foster long-term relationships with your community.

Many companies sell similar products and services to yours. What sets you apart from your competitors? Consumers want to see what you believe in, who you are, and what your story is. In today’s world, transparency is essential. Consumers not only want to purchase products, but they also want to interact with companies that align with their values.

Develop Your Story

Your story will change as your business grows. Don’t be afraid to change your story! As time passes, you’ll not be in the same place as when you started, and this makes a good story. Your followers will love to see how your brand is developing, and new followers will like to know how you started and how far you’ve come.

As your brand grows, you may launch new products or services; this provides a great time to tell a new story. Tell your followers the process you went through to develop the new product.

Always tell your brand’s story in a way that involves your followers to make them feel like they are part of the story and to keep them connected.

What Is Smoking

Published

By

One of the oldest forms of food preservation, having arisen after the development of cooking with fire. Heat and smoke infuse a flavor into fish, ham, poultry, and meat and prevent the growth of microbes. Is an effective way to preserve food but care must be taken to avoid contamination and illness. By supplying a consisted temperature around 150 to 275 degrees F, with your wood chips at the heat source and food on the top rack with vapor continually flowing over your food. Will increase their palatability by adding flavor and imparting a rich brown color.

In Europe, the wood used most commonly for smoking is Adler, oak, and sometime becch. In North America, the woods used are alder, oak, hickory, pecan, mesquite, maple, and some fruit trees, like apple, cherry, and plum. Alternative materials have been used with the addition of seasoning ingredients.

Some ham and bacon suppliers smoke over burning corncobs. Barley malt for liquors is dried and smoked using burned humate. Hot smoking fish in New Zealand is done with the wood from the tea tree. And in Iceland cold smoked lamb, whale, mutton, and fish is done with dried sheep dung.

On the western farms, a smokehouse was used for preserving meats, this building was away from other building due to the fire danger, and the smoke emanating from it.
