5 Ways to Extend Your Android Smartphone’s Battery Life

Smartphone batteries don’t last forever, and some devices have an almost-embarrassing screen-on time. Those big, luscious AMOLED and LCD screens and taxing apps are an obvious drain on your battery, but there are lots of things you can do behind-the-scenes to make your Android last longer. Let’s explore how to increase battery on your smartphone.
How Android batteries work
First, some background: most smartphones have either a lithium-ion battery or a lithium-polymer battery. Both are actually lithium-ion though, and as such, do not have a ‘memory’, which means you can charge them from any level – you don’t have to fully discharge them before charging them up – and you don’t have to charge them all the way to 100 percent.
In fact, these types of batteries suffer from low voltage problems, so it’s actually better to partially charge them (say, from 20 percent to 90 percent) than to fully charge and fully drain them. Battery care is always open for debate though, so for every accepted tip there will be someone that says it makes no difference. Just find the ones that work for you and you can increase battery on your Android device.
To our chagrin, most devices released nowadays don’t have removable batteries. This looks like it won’t change anytime soon. And despite most of them being close to 3,000 mAh they still need to be optimized, especially for demanding new games. Take advantage of some of the tips below and really get the most out of your smartphone.
1. Black wallpaper can increase battery
If your phone has an AMOLED screen (like most Samsung devices), use a dark-colored background. Black wallpaper can increase battery life because AMOLED screens only illuminate the colored pixels. Black pixels are unlit, so the blacker pixels you have, or the darker pixels, the less power is needed to light them up.
To download a completely black wallpaper, tap the link here.
• Now, save the picture and go into your Settings.
• From there tap Wallpaper hit Choose wallpaper and scroll down to Gallery.
• You should be able to find the black wallpaper you just saved.
• Hit set to wallpaper and lock screen.
2. Doze Mode
Doze mode has been around since Android Marshmallow, but has been improved with newer Android versions. Before, Doze would only work when the smartphone has been stationary for a while. But now, it can also work when it’s being moved around (in your bag or pocket while you’re on the go, for example). The screen just needs to be off to work.
Doze mode essentially just shuts down things you’re not using depending on how long it has been since you’ve touched your phone. Network connection is severed and syncing only happens during specific intervals. When you’re away from your phone even longer, more things are stopped, like GPS, Wi-Fi scanning and all syncing.
3. Turn off Google Assistant
Stop your phone from always listening. Google Assistant is a fantastic and often very functional feature. The problem is that it can wreak havoc with your battery. Especially if you don’t actually use it or only use it occasionally.
Go into Google>Search from your Settings menu and tap Google Assistant>Settings heading. On the next page, select your device and toggle off Google Assistant for longer battery life.
4. Don’t let your apps fall behind the times
Keep your apps updated. There’s a reason developers constantly update apps, and most of the time it’s for memory or battery optimization. Keeping your apps updated also means you have the best optimizations available. Likewise, delete old apps you no longer use, because these may be running background processes that chew up RAM and battery life.
Once you’ve ensured your apps are up-to-date you can go through them individually and check if they’re optimized for battery life. This can be done quite quickly. Just go into your Settings and tap Battery. From there hit the menu button (three dots at the top right of your screen) and go to Battery optimization. From there you can see which apps are optimized and change them. You can only change the non-essential system apps. Watch the video below to see how this is done.
5. Use Greenify
Unlike many Android apps that claim to optimize performance and increase battery life, Greenify actually works. Greenify allows you to put other apps into hibernation when they aren’t in use, preventing them from operating in the background.
This frees up system resources and boosts battery performance, but requires a bit of thought. For Greenify to be effective you can’t just hibernate every installed app. But since there are a lot of Android apps that perform actions you don’t know about, or necessarily want, this is a useful tool.

Dog Training Introduction

Most people need to know that training dogs is a fundamental concept when having dog. Simply put, the main purpose is to instil dog obedience and to establish yourself as the pack leader. This is also a good time to bond with the dog as training will be fun.

When can dogs be trained? Puppies have short attention spans and hence most training centres have a minimum of 3 to 6 months for formal training. Note while dogs can still learn new tricks when they can older it gets more challenging to send them for obedience training when they are a few years old and set in their ways.

You can send your dogs for training at dog training centres or you could train them yourself. Those who have prior training experience with dogs will be able to train dogs on their own.

Key training dog success factors

  1. Consistency => Use the same command and hand signal all the time. Even if the dog does not listen to the command, use the same command again instead of trying with another command
  2. Simplicity => Use simple words or signals. Only one command should be issued at one time. Don’t mix commands. I was guilty of not following this when I first got involved in dog training. I used to say ‘Sit down’ to my dog as I was thinking in English. Unfortunately, my dog does not know English and got confused if I wanted him to ‘Sit’ or to go ‘Down’.
  3. Reward => Dogs love been rewarded. Rewards should be immediate after each exercise. You can either praise or treat the dog. Note you are encouraged to say ‘Good Boy’ rather than food treats as the dog would grow to expect food treat each time it performs a command
  4. Confident => Be confident when issuing commands. Your dog would pick up your insecurities and simply would not obey.
  5. Fun => Both you and the dog should have fun. Never punish the dog if it does not do the commands properly. Instead use rewards to encourage the dogs to obey the command.
  6. Command feasibility => It has been my experience that my German Shepherd Dog don’t like been down in the hot ground or wet ground. Issue commands when you think the dog would also have no issue or has the ability to execute the order.

List of Canine good citizen commands

Dogs do not need to know many commands and the list below is generally sufficient. Note have a training leash handy.

  1. Heel
  2. Sit
  3. Down
  4. Come
  5. Stand
  6. Stay

BodyPump 77 Review

BodyPump 77 is here! This release spans the 2nd quarter of this year in Les Mills certified gyms. The sport, that targets all muscle areas in an hour, is the oldest class in the book. Question is: is this release the perfect start of the summer? Or will it cast a shadow on pumpers all spring?

Warmup: Commander – Spacegliderz

Song 1 definitely inspires me and puts me into the moment. The beat is especially satisfying as the instructor’s words guides us through all the moves of the class. The choreography is a little bit tougher (compared to 76) but it definitely warms up and introduces BodyPump 77 in the perfect way.

Squats: It’s my life – Swade

This Bon Jovi’s mixed song is a great fit to the class. The choreography fits the song well but doesn’t surprise in any way. The 4-lows, and single squats are transferred over from BodyPump 76, and there’s no stinger in the tail. Therefore these squats are slightly (just slightly!) easier than last time out. But I love the song so it’s fine.

Chest: DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love – Usher ft. Pitbull

The danger that Les Mills faces when implementing a top-40 song is that it will fade by the time that the workout hits gyms around the world, this time that’s not the case. This swingy song gets me feet tapping every time and makes the chest workout a personal favourite. The moves equals those found in U2’s beautiful day, there’re no surprises. Instead simple moves are repeated till the end of the song with just a single break, a very effective workout.

Back: Hold Me Tonight – Manian

Song 4 is the first tune that clearly breaks from the formula set in BodyPump 76. The choreography includes a new move that requires pumpers to push the weights above the shoulder line 3 times, with 4 repeats. (Darn, forgot the trendy name Les Mills gave it…)

Most people will consider this song more difficult compared to the previous one but for me personally it’s not that hard. Also consider that technique is very important, do it improperly and it will not target the back at all!

Triceps: I like it – Tokyo Haze

I hate this song! Its original (by Enrique Iglesias) isn’t inspiring at all and the beat lacks power. The moves are more repetitive than last time and about equal in difficulty. Simple moves with the bar, including presses and overheads, are repeated till the end.

Biceps: Diamond eyes (boom-lay boom-lay boom) – Shinedown

This song is tough! The main combo includes 8 (!) halves and 4 full bicep curls. That’s a very hard combo and squeezes everything out of the biceps. A break is present in the middle and a few easy moves that make the perfect recovery towards the final set including 8 halves and 8 full curls. The first two times I did this song my arms ached the next day so this workout pays dividends. Don’t like the music though.

Lunges: Only girl in the world – Nick Skitz vs DJ Lotus

BodyPump 77 includes dynamic lunges, static lunges and squats to finish it off. The song especially targets the girls in class, which is the majority I believe. The dynamic lunges are a lot of fun and fit the music well; a great way to practice technique and stability. The kicker is two sets of 8 lower squats; definitely a hand full.

Shoulder: Ti Sento – Scooter

In difficulty this song compares to the previous release of BodyPump. It begins with a set of push-ups followed by the fly (straight arms). The song marks four sets, accompanied with swift breaks in-between. Overall it feels satisfying and fits the music well. By the time the opera kicks in you’ll be feeling like a superhero flying the outskirts scanning for crime.

Abs: We speak no Americano – Yolanda be cool vs DCUP

Remember when I said that the delay between production and releases can sometimes damper the enthusiasm for a popular song? Well song 9 of BodyPump 77 seems to be an example of that statement. I love it personally and think the choreography fits it well, but some people I’ve talked to find the song “last year” and absolute hate it. The happy song (no arguing here!) hosts two major moves: the hover and sit-ups. The abs definitely burns after this one.

Cooldown: One Last Chance – Daughtry

A simple indie pop song always works for me and it does again. It’s very similar to BodyPump’s previous cooling down song (Kris Allen) and this could very well mark a trend I’m all for.

BodyPump 77 transfers most of the music genres and moves found in last quarter’s release. A few songs are great (chest, abs) while others are a step down from the previous outing (triceps). Overall the release is a decent one but nothing special.

Rating: 7/10 – A decent release but not groundbreaking in any way.

How to Ollie on a Skateboard – A Step-By-Step Guide

Before attempting to ollie on a skateboard you must learn to ride around in order to gain your balance. Skateboarding is all about balance. In order to get the board to pop up in the air it is important to start with a level center of gravity. Practice by lining up your shoulders to be square with your feet. Try to relax, as you will naturally balance over your board just as if you were standing on the ground.

Once you become comfortable riding and pushing around on your skateboard, it’s time to take it to the next level. Don’t always expect to get things first try, especially when your learning. Skateboarding can be one of the most rewarding experiences. This is because it is difficult. It takes dedication and many years of practice to become like the guys doing lots of tricks.

The only rule in skateboarding is to have fun. Don’t get down on yourself if it takes longer to learn something than your friends, it’s all part of it. You will find that as you progress, your own unique style will emerge; your strengths and skills will shine through more with the tricks that you have fun with. The three steps to learning how to skateboard are PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!

Step 1

Step on your board. Position your front foot about two thirds of the way to the front bolts, about 2 to 3 inches back.

Step 2

Point your back toe in the center of the tail, near the end of the deck. Pretend that you are about to jump off of your toes.

Step 3

Crouch down and prepare to jump off of your back foot. You want to kick straight down and quickly with your back foot, as to make a snapping motion while you jump into the air.

Step 4

As you begin to leave the ground slide your front foot towards the front bolts. The outside of your foot should roll toward the grip tape. This will create friction to help the board stick to your feet.

Step 5

Near the top of your jump, level out in the air. Position your feet to land over the bolts of your skateboard and brace for impact.

Step 6

Absorb the shock of your jump as you hit the ground and expect to ride away. If you don’t expect to land on your board, you risk slipping out and falling.

Step 7

Ride away. Smile. Do it again and again until you can ollie as high as you can jump.

Search Engine Optimization requires a lot of time. Apart from this, you must be aware of the current trends, algorithm changes, and strategies. Today, many marketers are aware of the fundamentals of Search Engine Optimization. Therefore, they can perform the optimization of their website themselves. However, most of them go on this adventure without being aware of the basics.

This is where they end up making grave mistakes. If you don’t have the right skills and tools, we suggest that you hire the services of a professional instead.

2. Believing in Unrealistic Promises

If you are going to hire a professional, make sure you go with one that uses safe methods. There are no shortcuts when it comes to getting your website ranked. In other words, you should never try to cheat the system or you may get penalized. So, you may want to hire a provider that makes realistic promises.

3. Following “illegal” tricks

Before you go with a service provider, make sure you know the method they are going to use. What you need to do is follow only white hat practices. On the other hand, illegal SEO involves tips and tricks that violate search engine guidelines, such as keyword stuffing, buying backlinks, exchanging links, and including hidden text. So, you may want to follow the recent updates if you want to achieve great results. If you don’t have the time to read about this change, we suggest that you hire the services of an SEO expert.

5. Opting for wrong Keywords

Lastly, one of the most common mistakes is to follow non-strategic keywords when it comes to SEO. So, you may not want to waste time optimizing your content for the wrong keywords. For example, you may not want to use keywords that are overly competitive. Instead, you should use low competition keywords that can still get a lot of traffic.

In short, if you avoid these 5 mistakes, you can rank your website and still enjoy great results. Hopefully, these tips will help you get the most out of your effort.

5 Great Amos Lee Songs

Amos Lee Is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist whose musical style encompasses folk, rock and soul. He has released four albums on Blue Note Records. Lee’s “folksy, bluesy sound” had been compared to Bill Withers, John Prine and Norah Jones. A New York Times music critic described him as having a “honeyed singing voice – light amber, mildly sweet, a touch of grain” which he features “squarely, without much fuss or undue strain” in his “1970s folk rock and rustic soul” musical song craft.

I really like his style as a musician and every time I hear him I hear his sound changing slightly and his songwriting also is constantly evolving. As a singer songwriter, every time I hear his music it gets better and better. Lee is an artist that gets me inspired to push myself as a songwriter and keep pushing hard to make great music. His songwriting is awesome and he’s really evolving and I can’t wait to hear more. I’ve compiled a list of 5 great Amos Lee songs and what they mean or the best I can decipher. Sometimes interpretation can be different then what the songwriter meant, but that happens all the time.

1. Street Corner Preacher – Last Days at the Lodge Album

A great story telling song about a man trying to overcome his past issues and sins and make it in the world today (at least that’s what I think this song is about). It’s funny, but the song can be something totally different. The best version I heard of this song is from the “Live from Bonnaroo 2011” video. Lee is accompanied by a slew of artists and backup singers. The song never sounded better.

“He got a new mercy, a new grace

Street corner preacher with the angry face

He got two years off for good behavior

Back in the neighborhood workin’ for the savior”

2. In the Arms of a Woman – Amos Lee (self-titled) Album

An amazing love song. That’s it. That’s all I have to say. When you hear this song it makes you feel romantic and loved and just all around good feelings. When I read the lyrics, sometimes it makes me think that it’s not a romantic song at all because he has this one line that says “Although now most of my days are spent alone”. Does he mean he’s no longer with her or is he always away from home because of being on tour? Not sure, but the song is an instant classic.

“I am at ease

In the arms of a woman

Although now most of my days are spent alone

A thousand miles from the place I was born

When she wakes me

She takes me back home”

3. Colors – Amos Lee (self-titled) Album

This duet with Norah Jones shows his range as a vocalist when he hits those falsetto notes. A song about how the world is different when his love is not around. Things don’t seem to be the same and time just drags on.

“When you’re gone

All the colors fade

When you’re gone

No the years they parade

When you’re gone

Colors seem to fade”

4. Windows Rolled Down – Mission Bell Album

An upbeat song that makes you want to get in the car and just drive till you run out of gas. This is a great song for a road trip or on a beautiful drive.

“Windows are rolled down

Moon is hanging low

Windows are rolled down

Think it’s time for me to go hey-ay-ay-a…-ay”

5. Keep It Loose, Keep It Tight – Amos Lee (self-titled) Album

This is one of those songs that I talked about that is so open to interpretation. I think this song has to do with him dealing with his growing fame and learning to cope with the fame and still be humble about life. “Keep It Loose” means don’t get too stuffy about being famous and getting money and have fun with the process and “Keep It Tight” means to also not get TOO loose and still learn that you have to keep a discipline in your life and still work hard to keep the music career going. Also, keep it loose and tight not only in music, but also in life and love (referencing the 2nd verse).

“and sometimes we forget what we got

who we are,

and who we are not

I think we got a chance to make it right

keep it loose

keep it tight

keep it tight”

As a side note with these songs, I had to pick 5 GREAT songs. These are not the top 5 Amos Lee songs. I believe he has so many great songs that could all be top songs. I didn’t want to force myself to choose, so I copped out and said 5 great songs. I’m looking forward to more Amos Lee music because it gives me inspiration as a songwriter and also he seems like a really cool dude.

Top 10 Reasons to Raise Rabbits For Meat Instead of Other Small Livestock

You may have been considering raising chickens, geese, ducks, goats, sheep or other small livestock for meat, but once you learn how easy it is to raise rabbits, you’ll never consider another animal for a primary meat source.

  1. Rabbits have an extremely high reproduction rate.
One healthy, mature doe can produce up to 1000% of her body weight every year. Owning just one female and one male can supply meat twice a week for a family of four.
  2. Rabbits need very little living space.
Whether you’re living in a condo or out in the country, you can always find space to raise a couple rabbits. No grazing is required and they’re rarely classified as livestock which allows you to keep them virtually anywhere. How many apartment complexes would let you keep a chicken or goat in them?
  3. Rabbits are low maintenance.
Check in on them every evening to feed, water and do quick health checks, clean their cages once a month and keep a simple breeding journal – that’s all you need to do! Females take care of the young themselves and the only special tools you’ll need are nesting boxes which you can even build yourself. No incubators or hand feeding required.
  4. Rabbits are virtually silent roommates.
Aside from the mating shriek, rabbits are extremely quiet animals. They won’t reveal your location to anyone, even if you’re traveling with them. Who knows what a chicken, goose or duck is likely to attract, not to mention a rooster. If outdoor cages are well hidden and clean, neighbors may not even know they are there.
  5. A little rabbit feed goes a long way.
When bunnies are being weaned (6-8 weeks old), they are large enough for consumption. This allows you to skip giving most of the bunnies feed as you gradually cull the young, leaving only the adults to consume expensive rabbit feed.
  6. Rabbits are the perfect sized meal for a family of four.
Rabbits are compact and usually butchered at “fryer size” (3-5 pounds), so you don’t have to worry about storing or eating leftovers.
  7. Rabbit manure will make your garden love you.
Rabbit manure is an excellent fertilizer for your garden that won’t burn plants. Plus, if you vermicompost, your worms can be fed the droppings which will make them love you too.
  8. Rabbit meat is very high in protein and extremely low in fat and cholesterol.
Very few other meats have nutritional values like rabbits, and none of them can be raised in your living room. Doctors have actually been known to prescribe rabbit meat diets to overweight patients.
  9. Rabbit fur will make an incredibly warm coat and is a great bartering item.
On a cold winter’s night, snuggling into a blanket made from rabbit pelts will keep your family warm long after the fire has gone out. You can also make hats or other accessories, and kids love getting a lucky rabbit’s foot.
  10. Rabbits are relatively easy to butcher and clean.
No one likes doing it but if you’re going to eat them, they day will come eventually. Someone with experience can take a rabbit from cage to freezer in 15 minutes or less. No plucking is needed and there’s very little cleanup.

A Short Pencil Is Better Then A Long Memory

Have you ever gone to the grocery store meaning to pick up just a few things and walked out with half the store in your cart? When you get home you realize that you got everything except for the thing you went there for in the first place. Now think about the time you walked in with a list and walked out with exactly the things that you came into the store for without even thinking about it.

I am the type of person that has to write everything down. I have to-do lists, grocery list, calendar reminders on my cell phone and email, my goals and visions are written down and I write my thoughts in a journal. While my passion for writing is one of the reasons why I do this, it’s not the only reason. I learned something a long time ago that has stuck with me. A short pencil is better than a long memory. The human memory is indeed flawed, we can easy lose track of our direction in life if we only rely on our memory to get there. When we write things down it reinforces the thoughts and makes them more “concrete.”

Here’s a little background on what happens in the brain based on some simple neuro-psychology. Our brains are divided into several regions that help us to process information. These include the frontal lobe which is for problem solving, emotions, behavioral control, thinking and planning. The motor cortex which is responsible for movement, the sensory cortex which is responsible for sensation, the temporal lobe which processes long term memory, the parietal lobe which makes sense of the world and helps us with spelling, arithmetic and perception and the occipital which is responsible for vision. When we write things down, we are using several of these parts of the brain but more importantly we are helping to commit this information to our long term memory. When we engage in the act of writing things down we are activating all of the parts of the brain.

One study on students, in a University setting, looked at students that took notes and students that did not take notes. The study tested these students immediately after a lecture. All the students in the study remember approximately 40% of the information presented. The difference between the two groups was that the students that took the notes remembered more of the details of the lecture. The students that did not take notes remembered random parts of the lecture. The mere act of writing helped the students to commit more details to their long term memory.

Writing is basically like a dress rehearsal for the brain. When we write things down we are helping to commit these things to our long term memory. The mind is a tricky thing when remembering things and a concrete reference can help us to stay focused and on track. Writing it down is also a good way to keep your mind focused and to reduce the amount of stress in your life. It only takes a minute to write it down but can save you a lot of aggravations and anguish in the long run. So when you need to remember anything in life take a second and write it down.

Trikke Wheel Replacement

Worried about the need to frequently change out your Trikke wheels? Don’t be! Your Trikke scooter is known as a low-maintenance human powered vehicle. It is made up of parts that are durable enough to withstand the wear and tear of free-styling for hundred of miles before replacement of any part is needed. As long as you follow the standard precautions for safety detailed in your Trikke manual, you only need a couple of minutes prior to climbing on for a quick safety check: ensure the tightness of screws with a pair of 5mm allen wrenches; check the effectiveness of your Trikke brakes, and eye the condition of all three of the Trikke wheels. Like any other vehicle, your Trikke wheels carry the weight and do require regular maintenance.

So what is required for your Trikke? Let’s see. First, what type of Trikke wheel do you have on your Trikke scooter? Different tires will require different levels of maintenance. Depending on the model, your Trikke scooter may have either a polyurethane Trikke wheel or an air-filled rubber tire. Each will have its own advantages and disadvantages.

The polyurethane Trikke wheel is a hard plastic wheel that is non-sparking, non-conductive, and impervious to oil, ozone, and grease. Your poly Trikke wheels are designed to turn effortlessly, and they offer almost no resistance when used over flat and smooth surfaces like the pavement of your sidewalks, roads and neighborhood lanes. This makes the poly wheels perfect for Trikke beginners since they provide smooth runs that make it easier for the newbie to get moving.

Furthermore, the poly Trikke wheel is very quiet, doesn’t leave marks on floors, and is very durable, outwearing the rubber Trikke wheel by months in ordinary free-wheeling activities. However, the polyurethane Trikke wheels are of little use on rough surfaces. And their very design makes them slippery enough to skid through water puddles. You could even lose control of your Trikke scooter when road obstacles like bumps or holes are encountered. Avoiding them will ensure a safer ride for you, improved lifespan for your Trikke scooter and many hours of laughter, wild fun and full body workouts for you.

Meanwhile, the air-filled Trikke rubber tires are better at cushioning, provide better traction on rough and uneven surfaces and protect floors. Ultimately they offer more Trikke riding versatility. You won’t be limited to smooth pavement with the air-filled Trikke wheels, and you can travel smoothly with better control when carving over varied terrain and climbing uphill.

The down side is that the pneumatic Trikke wheels require more maintenance. It is imperative that you check the air pressure of your Trikke wheels every 7 to 10 days and add air as needed with a pump possessing a precise gauge to ensure you’re inflating your tires to the recommended pressure. Don’t rely on a test of the firmness of your Trikke wheels by using your hands. Instead use an accurate tire pressure gauge capable of measuring pressure above 80psi. Maintain an air pressure of 80psi in the rear Trikke wheels and 75 in the front to ensure optimum performance of your Trikke scooter. Furthermore, you have to avoid sharp objects on the road that can puncture your rubber Trikke wheels like jagged rocks or broken glass.

Though Trikke polyurethane wheels are expected to last longer than the pneumatic rubber Trikke tire, the overall lifespan of your Trikke wheel actually depends on your riding style and riding surface preference. If you’re a laid back rider who only requires speed and a gradual workout for improved muscle tone over smooth pavement, then you will get a lot more miles out of your Trikke wheels. However, for the energetic and adventurous Trikke riders who love performing tricks on their Trikke scooters and prefer deep carving and very rough terrain, then expect to replace your wheels more frequently.

Once you notice part of your wheel is starting to show signs of wear and tear, you can just rotate the wheels so the less abraded portion will be more exposed to the ground. If you deem your Trikke wheel unusable because of large holes or deeply eroded surfaces, it is time to replace it with a new one. Just order a Trikke scooter wheel replacement by going to the Buy Now button at the website, and then proceed to the Showroom for parts and accessories.

Once your new Trikke wheels arrive, replacement is easy and simple. You just need two 5mm allen wrenches to loosen the screw holding the Trikke wheel in place, and secure the new Trikke wheel by replacing and tightening the screws. Check the air pressure, and then off you go for more adventures, fun and a great workout. Enjoy!

Skype Guitar Lessons – The Pro’s & Cons

Learn to play the guitar through Skype

With the growth of the social media through sites like Facebook, Google+, Instagram & Snapchat, the whole world is now tied into the internet in one way or another. People are finding it easier to communicate online rather than actually talking via a normal phone line. We even find it easier by shop online rather than having to drive into the city, struggle to find a parking space and queue up in the store.

Companies are finding new and interesting ways of reaching out to people through the internet so it wasn’t hard to see that eventually education and learning would be available via the internet.

Skype isn’t a new program; it’s been around for a number of years now but it really wasn’t until Hi Speed broadband became readily available that it became a medium for reliable video and audio streaming.

Now we can replace the classroom with a monitor and the catchment area for students has become worldwide.

However, we must still remember that the same rules apply when selecting a teacher if you want to learn to play the guitar.

Opinions differ over whether a guitarist needs to have studied their instrument formally. Your teacher may have gone to school, but also may have studied one-on-one with dozens of professional players.

If you’re considering a teacher without a college background, look for a list of references and review what they teach.

Besides showing you technique, you’ll want a teacher who will explain music theory to give you a deeper understanding of what you’re playing.

Experience teaching

Many great guitarists can teach, but they may not be experienced teachers. Conveying information is its own art form, and everyone learns differently. A good education alone won’t do the trick – choose a guitarist who has at least a few years of teaching behind them. If they’re new to teaching and you’re OK with that, make sure they give you a rate competitive with other teachers.

Teaching style

Casual or rigorous? Loaded with theory, or focused on a single technique or song? There are as many different ways to take a guitar lesson as there are teachers and students. Ask yourself what you want to get out of your experience. If you’re just doing this for fun, you may want a more laid-back teacher. If you’d like to learn as much as possible, find someone who will keep you on your toes.

Of course there are pro’s and cons for selecting to learn online, here are some of these in greater detail.

Because you are no longer confined to region locations you can select a teacher from any location in the world.

No more lost travelling to your lesson,

Student’s can practice right up to the point of their lesson to ensure they are warmed up and ready for the lesson.

Student’s are more comfortable being in their home environment and feel more relaxed and find it easier to perform and play more than they would do in a classroom situation.

Due to the nature of Skype lessons, student’s actually spend more time playing than they would normally do in a face to face lesson.

If you’re a busy parent and trying to find time to attend classes and also look after another sibling then is problem goes away, the student can take their lesson why you have time to do other things.

Teacher isn’t in the same room as the student so he is unable to manipulate their wrists, fingers, elbows, etc.

Teacher and student are unable to play together due to a lagging webcam (and all webcam sessions experience lag).

Need Internet connection.

Student’s may find themselves distracted by outside sources, siblings, animals, neighbors, etc. however please note this can also occur in a lesson if a student is being taught at home.

Equipment Required

Here’s the minimum setup you’ll need:

High-speed internet connection

Computer, with enough processing power to send and receive streaming video and audio (anything on today’s market can handle it)

Webcam, either built-in on a laptop or bought separately

Microphone, again either built-in or separate, over time you may want to upgrade to a higher quality mic.

It’s also recommend to have a good set of headphones just in case they feel distracted or the internet quality starts to weaken during a lesson.

This is the minimum you will require to participate in a online lesson. You’ll need to install the Skype software on that computer. Go to and they’ll walk you through it. Choose a username appropriate for you, usually your name itself, if it’s available.

Payment for online lessons are normally made through PayPal, speak with your teacher and he will normally advise you how he wishes to be paid. Some teachers offer packages of lessons that can save you money over a period of time.

Things to Consider When Setting Up a Minecraft Server

A few years back, a game named Minecraft was launched. Soon, it became one of the most popular games and tons of people from across the world became fan of it. The game is placed on different servers around the world. If you intend to make your own Minecraft server, we suggest that you consider the tips given below so you can make your server prominent.

Make sure the theme is appealing

For a good server, you may want to keep in mind that the theme is of paramount importance. What you need to do is carry out a Google search to know the themes that are being liked by the majority of fans. It’s even better if you add multiple themes to cater to most players.

Consider the Cost

It’s costly to install a powerful server but you have to bear the cost. If you want to set up a server for you and a couple of friends, the cost will not be high. However, if you want to open your server to the whole world, you have to be ready to spend a bit more. In this case, your server has to be up all the time. As soon as you become popular, make sure you opt for your own domain.

Spawn area is important

When landing at your server, what will the players see? This is very important. They will see the spawn area at first. So, make sure that the area is appealing. This way the players will be more likely to stay on your server for more exploration. Make sure the server rules are also given in the right area.

Read up on the best plug-ins

As soon as you have decided on the type of Minecraft server you need, your next move is to opt for the right plug-ins. For the safety and convenience of each server, you need some essential plug-ins first. You need three servers namely WorldEdit, Essentials and PermissionsEx. Make sure you get all of them installed on your servers as they are the must-have plug-ins. Without them, your server will be kind of incomplete and the players won’t be able to get the most out your servers.

Get the word out about your server

As soon as you done all the things mentioned above, you are good to go. No! You still have to do one of the most important things: advertising. If you don’t get the word out about your Minecraft server, how will the world get to know about you? You need to do mention your server on relevant forums, especially the official forum of Minecraft. What you can do is design customized banners and designers for the forum users. You can also consider a listener as it will reward the users who gave their vote for your server. They will get in-game items and money for this.

Long story short, if you are going to launch your own Minecraft server, make sure you follow the guidelines given in this article. This way you will be able to make a lot of moolah through your Minecraft server.
