Revisiting ‘Chronicle’: The Perils and Power of Adolescence

Revisiting ‘Chronicle’: The Perils and Power of Adolescence

Chronicle is the story that almost never gets told. On their way to a high-school party, our protagonist’s older cousin Matt (Alex Russell) pleads with his reclusive cousin not to bring along the video camera that apparently functions as an extension of his limbs. “When we go tonight,” he implores, “maybe leave your camera at home?” Matt is a typical 18-year-old boy, preoccupied with appearing louche and cool — not unkind, but nevertheless willing to point out his cousin’s shortcomings. Our protagonist, Andrew (Dane DeHaan), declines: “I bought a camera and I’m filming everything from here out.” And so our story begins.

This interaction serves as a cunning treatise for the rest of the film, which is just as interested in the canon of superpower films as it is with playing witness to the casual cruelty and misendeavors of growing up as a boy in modern America. Based on a screenplay by Max Landis and realized in gritty cinematic shorthand by Josh Trank, the story follows three 17- and 18-year-old boys living in Seattle whose lives are irredeemably altered by one supernatural event.

Steve, played by Michael B. Jordan in a breakout role, is disarming and jocular. He has political aspirations and sharpens his interpersonal skills on his peers with deft charm. Matt is slightly more reserved, yet prone to the kind of lofty philosophical ramblings that adolescents often use to disguise insecurity. And then there’s Andrew, played with vulnerable ferocity by DeHaan in his breakout performance. Like those bestowed with superpowers that preceded him, his origins are lowly, if not downright tragic. His father is a belligerent and violent drunk, and his mother is terminally ill. He is easy prey both for his peers at school and at home, where his fragile sense of purpose and worth is eroded by his father’s outbursts. Unlike Bruce Wayne’s parentless tragedy or Peter Parker’s arachnidian defect, Andrew’s origin story is regrettably one not unfamiliar to many teenagers.

When the three boys discover a vast crater in the woods undulating with telekinetic energy, their lives change forever. They discover they can lift Lego with their mind and assemble Starships in their front rooms with boyish glee. They can lift the skirts of unsuspecting girls at school and levitate Pringles into their open mouths with grace. With great power comes great responsibility, and unsurprisingly, things soon begin to go wrong. Their powers increase: now, they are able to crunch cars in their fists like Wotsits. They swoop through the clouds at breakneck speed and rip the incisors out of a bully’s mouth as though plucking daisies. At the epicenter of this growing chaos is Andrew, whose slow-burning discontentment and feelings of isolation supply the emotional ammunition for his descent into violence and extremism. In this manner, Chronicle can be read as an analogy for the dangers of thwarted masculinity — and an unexpectedly prescient critique of the current incel/alt right-motivated violence that troubles America today. But more on that later.

Perhaps the most assertive thing about Chronicle is Trank’s choice to use the found footage style that popularized such films as The Blair Witch Project in 1999 and Cloverfield in 2008. Harnessed by indie filmmakers in the late 1990s, these found footage films sought to eschew the constraints — such as budget, logistics, and access to A-list talent — that often limit first-time filmmakers.

With a focus on multi-character ensembles and exposé-style narratives, it is interesting to consider how the raw aesthetic of well-loved thrillers like the Paranormal Activity franchise had their formal origins in the centuries-old epistolary form. Writer Andrew Keith Walker elaborates on this point, suggesting that “found footage takes the academic detective work of primary research and applies that model to filmmaking. It presents a faux primary source and guides the audience through a detective process.” Found footage films incorporate the audience into the narrative both emotionally (through our implication as witnesses) and visually (through the intimate camera POV). The result is both chilling and profound, providing a cinematic experience that is closer to reportage than to conventional modes of storytelling.

In Chronicle, the found footage style not only forces us to bear witness to the private moments in Andrew’s life — tending to his dying mother, lying in his bed listening to his dad’s inebriated rages, listlessly filming cheerleaders on the bleachers — but also functions as the very thing that gives our protagonist purpose. Where other found footage films have justified the ‘found’ element in terms of journalistic enquiry (Gareth Edwards’ Monsters, for example), artistic exploration (the young filmmakers in The Blair Witch Project), or purely to capture a good night out (Cloverfield), one gets the impression that Andrew’s documentation of the world around him is more vital altogether, instilling in it the significance, empathy, and purpose that he otherwise struggles to find. This is evident in an interaction between Steve and Andrew midway through the film: Steve asks him, “You don’t feel like [the camera is] a little weird? Like it puts a barrier between you and everyone else?”, to which Andrew responds, “Maybe I want a barrier.”

In an apparently apathetic world, Andrew’s flailing sense of self-worth is bolstered by his documentation of quotidian life. It is the ‘barrier’ which both protects him and distances him from those that prey on him. In this manner, the found footage style of Chronicle is analogous to the volatile and vulnerable condition of adolescence and its capacity for monstrous or unreliable retellings. It is no coincidence that when the camera is ultimately turned on Andrew at the height of his destruction, the audience is conditioned to see a monster and not a teenage boy, radicalized and insular.

20th Century Fox

As previously mentioned, there is a disturbingly prescient vein running through the film which explores the dangers of volatile masculinity — especially in adolescence. In Landis’ screenplay, Andrew’s rages are accompanied by lightning storms and traffic accidents, his emotions taking on physical properties that are at once hyperbolic and familiar to many angsty teenagers. It is, however, internet research that sharpens the point of Andrew’s malice, representing a well-trodden and sinister descent into violent radicalization. After Steve’s tragic death, Andrew becomes distant even from Matt and directs his spurn toward the camera and, by extended logic, the audience too. When he talks about “evolution and natural selection” and “the Apex predator”, it is with the dull fervor of fundamentalism. Gone are the days of mischievous experimentation, the juvenile joy, the newfound bravado. He levitates a spider in front of him and explodes its limbs with sudden, horrific intensity. In these scenes, the floating camera becomes uncomfortably incriminated in Andrew’s deterioration, a helpless partner in crime.

This helplessness, and the attending nihilism that colors Andrew’s world, is a mainstay of found footage films. In Cloverfield, the group of New Yorkers we follow look on in horror as a behemoth of terror destroys their city. They are, quite literally, pawns in a great game. In Monsters, the couple are at the mercy of both the monsters that surround them and, more tellingly, the various military forces intended to protect them. Without the inherent authority of conventional filmmaking (establishing shots, tracking shots, etc.) to tell us what to believe or what to expect, the audience finds themselves as helpless as the protagonists. As a device, found footage is intrinsically reactive and all the more terrifying for it.

Perhaps the most shocking thing about Chronicle is the inevitability of Andrew’s death. While Steve’s untimely demise is designed to shock the audience with its randomness, there is a haunting sense throughout the film that Andrew is doomed. Even at the peak of his newfound power, when his cousin tells him, “Things are gonna get so much better for you, I really feel that,” it feels improbable that Andrew will be able to escape from the juggernauts of cruelty, bad luck, and self-doubt that pile atop him. At the nadir of his self-esteem, as helicopters spin around him and spotlights pick out his small body, his desperate cousin tells him, “Andrew, you’re not alone up here,” but we already know that in many ways, he is. Trank’s is a film for the modern ages, an inexorable tragedy that speaks to the manifold ways young men are both isolated and indoctrinated. Though its form may be hyperbolic and fantastical, the emotions that anchor it are terrifyingly tangible and tap into a modern zeitgeist wherein pain becomes spectacle and a fall from grace is valuable cultural currency.

20th Century Fox

In early August this year, various entertainment platforms announced a sequel to Trank’s original film featuring an all-female cast. This time around, Trank will be not behind the camera (the main one, that is), having expressed both disdain for the concept of a sequel and disgust at original screenwriter Max Landis’ multiple sexual assault allegations. Landis’ fall from grace is not only a damning indictment of an industry that repeatedly aids and abets violent men but also a rather chilling parallel to the volatile and unchecked versions of masculinity that consume Andrew in Chronicle. One must hope that the new film will work hard to fully comprehend the complexities and nuances of being a young woman today, rather than simply overlay pre-existing narratives with tired archetypes à la 2016’s Ghostbusters. We must hope, too, that in light of Landis’ deplorable behavior, the sequel will aim to give agency and weight to its female protagonists, though this is little recompense for such troubling events. Ultimately, what made Chronicle so assertive a film the first time around was its ability to train a lens on the unlovable aspects of male adolescence, and unpick (albeit with supernatural device) the simultaneous blows of arrogance, precariousness, and fear that define turbulent youth. To repeat this will be a challenge, especially without the meticulous eye of Trank. We can only hope that the sequel retains its candor and, perhaps, finds for itself new idols to burn.

Princess Love is unfazed by Ray J filing for divorce yet again. She also revealed he’s doing ‘great’ despite remaining hospitalized.

Princess Love, 37, has reacted to her husband Ray J, 40, taking action to officially end their marriage again. “[I’ve] never been better,” she told TMZ on October 8, while leaving LAX airport with her kids. It came two days after Ray J, who is currently in the midst of fighting pneumonia in hospital, filed for divorce for a third time. “He’s great,” Princess Love told the outlet. “He’s alive and well.”

As for whether the couple might rekindle their romance, she said, “I’m just focused on working right now and taking care of my kids. They’re my focus.” Before Ray J’s most recent filing, Princess had filed for divorce in May 2020. Nevertheless, the couple eventually got back together. After quarantining with their kids throughout the summer of 2020, Ray J went on to file for divorce in September but again, they committed to trying to make things work.

They moved to Florida with their kids, which is where Ray J is currently battling pneumonia in hospital. He and his manager, David Weintraub, both told TMZ via phone call that the singer was admitted to the hospital with breathing issues, and doctors placed him in the COVID wing assuming he had contracted the respiratory illness. “I thought it was over. I started praying and knew God is good so I just kept praying,” the TV personality told the outlet.

After testing negative for COVID five times, Ray J was moved out of the COVID wing and was treated for pneumonia. TMZ also reported that he was “getting oxygen but he still has difficulty breathing and talking” and is “asking people to pray for him.”

It comes just one month after her publicly denied rumors that he and ex-girlfriend Kim Kardashian have a second sex tape together. After Wack 100, Ray J’s former manager, said on a podcast that he had “more graphic footage” of Kim, Ray finally confirmed the speculation was untrue. “This ain’t cool – I been staying off the Raydar – Just staying focused and being humble and thankful for all the blessings I’m receiving. How can I show growth and maturity if this kinda of stuff keeps happening?” he wrote. “I’m a father now and my job is to be a great parent and put them first. This is not the message I want to send out – smh.”

Teresa Giudice and Luis Ruelas are getting ready to move into their $3.35 million mansion in New Jersey.

Months after the couple purchased the seven-bedroom, seven-and-a-half-bathroom home, boxes were seen arriving to the newly-remodeled estate as the Real Housewives of New Jersey star, her boyfriend, and her builder and design team began documenting the move on Instagram.

On October 8, an insider told Page Six that Teresa and Luis’ home is a “Beverly Hills-style mansion in New Jersey” and is “absolutely breathtaking.”

“They paid significant attention to detail,” the insider continued, adding that the moving process is a “huge undertaking” for the RHONJ couple.

On Thursday, after boxes were dropped off at the estate, a couple of social media posts were shared, one of which said “it takes a village.”

Teresa and Luis, whose allegedly troubled past was a hot topic amid filming on RHONJ season 12, purchased the home in January as a “business investment” and two months later, in March, Teresa found a seller for her $2.2 million six-bedroom, five-and-a-half bathroom home in Montville.

“It’s hard for me to sell the house,” Teresa admitted on an episode of season 11. “[Joe Giudice] and I built the house together; we raised our four daughters in that home. [But] I am ready for a new beginning. I’m looking for a fresh start.”

Teresa finalized her divorce from Joe, the father of her four daughters, Gia, 20, Gabriella, 17, Milania, 15, and Audriana, 12, in September 2020 after 20 years of marriage. Two months later, Teresa went public with her romance with Luis, who is a dad of two sons.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Teresa and Luis enlisted the help of the Fratantoni family, who own a design-build firm and an interior design branch, to update their 7,728-square-foot mansion, which boasts a home theater, an exercise facility, a rec room, a resort-style pool, and more.

Among the renovations were an update kitchen, with white countertops and black cabinetry, and new carpeting in the foyer.

In April of this year, while appearing on Watch What Happens Live, Teresa denied having plans to move in with Luis.

“Um, no — not at all,” Teresa responded. “It’s an investment property, so we’ll see where it goes from there.”

The Real Housewives of New Jersey season 12 began filming in June and wrapped in September. No word yet on an official premiere date for the new episodes.

Madonna took the stage at Ginny’s Supper Club in Harlem, NY for a Belvedere Vodka party where she performed some of her most iconic hits!

Madonna has no qualms about rocking a sexy outfit at 63. The legendary singer sported an ultra sexy black dress with a high slit for a midnight concert at a Belvedere Vodka event at Ginny’s Supper Club in Harlem, NY on Friday, Oct. 9. She paired the long-sleeved satin ensemble with a fishnet tight and platform shoe, adding a newsboy style cap at one point during the performance.

She looked incredible as she performed atop a piano and stage, selecting songs from her upcoming film Madame X along with tunes like “Like A Prayer” and “La Isla Bonita.” Musician Jon Batiste, 34, also took the stage with her, leading a “love riot” out onto the streets of the Harlem neighborhood! The jazz parade ended up at a local church near the iconic Apollo Theatre where she concluded with “Like A Prayer.”

Ahead of the performance, Madonna sipped a red Belvedere cocktail (dubbed ‘The Madame X’, consisting of
Belvedere Vodka, pomegranate juice, lime juice, honey) as she wore a plunging, sheer black mini dress with a bustier style bra. Her glam was on point, too, with long blonde extensions and a dramatic bang, along with a fall-ready burgundy nail and matching lip.

Madonna’s daughter Lourdes Leon, 24, was amongst those in the intimate crowed, along with Steven Klein, Aquaria, Julia Fox, Gabe Ocasio-Cortez, and her Madame X directors Ricardo Gomes and SKNX.

The sexy performance comes hot off the heels of her eyebrow raising appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon where she sprawled across his desk in a cheeky bodysuit. “Artists are here to disturb the peace,” she proclaimed, quoting writer James Baldwin on Thursday, Oct. 7. Jimmy quickly took off his blazer to cover her, as Madonna retorted, “nobody’s going to see anything, my god.”

“I hope that I have disturbed not only your peace this afternoon but people’s peace while they watch the show, but I mean that in the best way,” Madonna also said.

Concert film Madame X, which takes fans behind-the-scenes of her 2019 show in Lisbon, Portugal, began streaming exclusively on Paramount+ on Friday, Oct. 8.

In the world of social media, celebrities–and regular people–can be criticized and “canceled” online for things they said two weeks ago or two years ago. Now, Saweetie is feeling that very same wrath…but she’s not putting up with it.

An old livestream conversation between the rapper and Too $hort went viral this week, in which $hort talks  about his affinity for mixed women. In the clip, the Bay Area artists talk about biracial or multiracial people, with Too $hort revealing that he hasn’t fallen in love with a woman that has not been mixed.

Too $hort spoke about mixed kids being pretty regardless of what their parents look like, and in response, Saweetie is seen laughing throughout the conversation. Once this resurfaced clip went viral, people condemned the rapper for her response.

Soon thereafter, though, Saweetie caught wind of the criticisms and uploaded the remainder of the video where she told the Bay Area legend that Black women are “beautiful on they own,” without having to be mixed with any other race.

Seriously?! The Officer Who Shot & Paralyzed Jacob Blake Will Not Face Civil Rights Charges

Welp, this is f***ing ridiculous.

Source: KAMIL KRZACZYNSKI / Getty

In “disappointed, but not surprised,” news, the Justice Department is not filing federal civil rights charges against the Wisconsin officer who shot Jacob Blake, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down.

According to reports from the Chicago Sun-Times, after launching its own investigation into the incident, the DOJ announced on Friday, October 8 that it will not be pursuing charges against Kenosha Police Officer Rusten Sheskey, saying there was not enough evidence to prove he used excessive force or violated Blake’s civil rights.

“Accordingly, the review of this incident has been closed without a federal prosecution,” the Justice Department said in a news release.

Blake was shot multiple times on August 23, 2020 as he attempted to enter a vehicle with his young children. The officers were initially called to the scene over a domestic incident between two women, but, unsurprisingly, ended up targeting someone else. Sheskey tried to stop Blake from entering his car by pulling on his shirt, which is when Blake reportedly turned around and came toward the officer with a knife. He was shot seven times.

As previously reported, Sheskey was not charged by state prosecutors for the shooting. The officer told authorities that he used deadly force during the shooting because he was afraid Blake was trying to kidnap a child in his vehicle, but the children present were Blake’s biological kids.

Kim Kardashian Hosting ‘SNL’ For The 1st Time On Oct. 9 With Returning Musical Guest Halsey

Live from New York, it’s Saturday night! Season 47 of Saturday Night Live is well underway, and show runner Lorne Michaels has yet to disappoint with his choice of show hosts and musical guests. This week, Kim Kardashian, 40, is set to take the stage at Studio 8H alongside musical guest Halsey, 27.

The SKIMS founder follows season opener Owen Wilson, 52, who hosted on Oct. 2 with musical guest Kacey Musgraves, 33. Just like Kim, the Wedding Crashers star also made his hosting debut in season 47, chalking up the long wait to nerves. “I get really nervous with public speaking. I’ve never done any of those commencement addresses or Saturday Night Live just because I get too nervous,” he explained on a hike to friend Kevin Nealon in a YouTube video. Owen slayed it, and even had some help from his brothers Andrew, 57, and Luke, 50, during his opening monologue.

Learn more about this week’s show below.

Kim Kardashian Is Hosting ‘SNL’ For The 1st Time

After weeks of speculation, Kim was confirmed to be hosting the Oct. 9 show via SNL‘s official Twitter account on Sept. 22. The KKW Beauty founder will make history as SNL‘s first-ever reality star to serve as host on the long running NBC series.

Kim was rumored to be hosting the show after she was spotted enjoying a lunch with Lorne and her mom Kris Jenner, 65, at the Beverly Hills Hotel’s Polo Lounge back in August. Shortly after the meeting, HollywoodLife EXCLUSIVELY reported that the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star was “asked” to appear on SNL this season.

“Kim was asked to be a host for SNL…The desire is for Kim to host and potentially have some family members take part in skits or the opening monologue. If they can’t figure it out for the season debut, they still want her to do a hosting spot sometime during the season,” the insider told HL.

“OMFG no turning back now!!!! LOL,” Kim said via Twitter after the announcement was made, adding, “I’m hosting SNL!!!!!!”

Kim has been fodder for SNL humor in the past; notably impersonated by former cast member Nasim Pedrad a whopping 13 times between 2009 and 2014. Nicki Minaj also delivered her take on Kim in a Dec. 2014 episode when she was musical guest.

In the days leading up to the big show, Kim has turned heads in some seriously stylish outfits heading to and from rehearsals. The Armenian beauty stayed with her Balenciaga kick, sporting a silver tinsel coat over a tight black catsuit (including the pant-leggings she has worn several times, including to the Met Gala) for one outfit on Oct. 5. She bundled up in a puffy jacket for another, adding a dash of color with a bright pink suit on Oct. 7. Her sisters have yet to pop-up at the studio, however, her close friends Stephanie Shepherd and Tracy Romulus have been spotted with her daily.

Notably, Kim’s hosting debut comes amid her split from husband Kanye West, 44. The makeup mogul and Yeezy designer tied the knot back in 2014, snd share four kids together: North, 8, Saint, 5, Chicago, 3, and Psalm, 2. Kim filed for divorce from Kanye in Feb. 2021 citing irreconcilable differences. Recently, she has shown support for Kanye’s 10th album Donda: Kim was present for two back-to-back listening parties in Atlanta, curiously wearing a wedding dress for the third in his native of Chicago.

The appearance also comes hot off the heels of Kim and her family shooting their new reality series for Disney-owned streamer Hulu. The KarJenner clan wrapped their long running E! series Keeping Up With The Kardashians after 20 seasons earlier this year.

The ‘SNL’ Musical Guest Tonight Is Halsey

Halsey returns to Studio 8H for the fifth time on Oct. 9. The appearance comes just five weeks after the release of her latest album If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power. The project includes her last two singles, “I Am Not a Woman, I’m a God” — which was produced by Nine Inch Nails members Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross — as well as track “You Asked for This.”

The album is accompanied by a new documentary of the same name, set to begin streaming on HBO Max starting on Oct. 7. “I’ve always wanted to make that kind of a record that was unapologetic and just didn’t care about chart success or trends or whatever,” Halsey, née Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, said on Australian radio show triple j Breakfast in August, describing the albums theme as “the joys and horrors of pregnancy and childbirth.” The New Jersey native gave birth to her first child Ender Ridley with partner Alev Aydin on July 14.

“5th times the…charm? See you sooooon,” Halsey posted via social media after the announcement.

Halsey last appeared on SNL in Jan. 2020 when she performed “You Should Be Sad” and “Finally // Beautiful Stranger.” Her first-ever appearance on the series was in Jan. 2018 when she performed her breakout single “Him & I” with G-Eazy. She one again appeared in Feb. 2019 when she pulled double duty as both host and musical guest.

Why Part-Time Kate McKinnon Is Still An ‘Important’ Part Of ‘SNL’ As She Films New Show

Published

on

kate mckinnon

A source tells HollywoodLife exclusively that Kate McKinnon will still remain an integral part of ‘Saturday Night Live’ as she films her upcoming ‘Tiger King’ series.

As Kate McKinnon continues to film her upcoming Tiger King series with Peacock, her colleagues at Saturday Night Live have had no problems accommodating her new work schedule. With SNL creator Lorne Michaels’ desire to have as much of the remaining cast on the current Season 47, a source has revealed to HollywoodLife exclusively that Kate, 37, will remain an integral part of the series despite her part-time status.

Kate McKinnon on ‘Saturday Night Live’ (Everett Collection)

“SNL that has Kate McKinnon is just a better SNL,” our source said. “Lorne was really interested in bringing her back because she is such a powerhouse. Right now, she is working very hard to bring her Tiger King project to air as she is playing Carole Baskin and producing the show, so her attention has been focused on making that the best it can possibly be.”

With both projects demanding so much of the Emmy winner’s time, there’s just no feasible way she could appear on the NBC sketch comedy on a regular basis, resulting in some much needed compromises. “There has been an understanding and concessions made that when Kate can help with SNL, she will,” the source added. “A part time Kate is better than no Kate at all.”

The source added that the cast and crew are “being as accommodating as possible for this all to work out,” because “everyone loves” Kate. “She deserves to get this treatment and it’s working out for all involved,” the insider said. The part-time arrangement comes after initial speculative reports about the SNL veteran potentially not returning at all.

While Kate and other longtime cast, including Cecily Strong and Aidy Bryant, had been rumored to depart after the 45th season, it was another show favorite, Beck Bennett, to announce his departure. He announced his exit on September 27, thanking the series for “8 years of remarkable people and incredible experiences that completely changed my life.”

Featured cast member Lauren Holt also departed the series. Meanwhile, breakout featured players Bowen Yang and Chloe Fineman were promoted to regular cast members this season. Season 47 also welcomed three new featured players, Aristotle Athari, James Austin Johnson, and Sarah Sherman. The next episode of SNL will air on October 9 with host Kim Kardashian and musical guest Halsey.

“You’re the toughest Man I know,” the “Level Up” singer captioned the post. “Always dedicated and committed to do whatever it takes. I love you so much my Sweet King. Thank you Dr Shin and team for taking care of my baby.” Russell looked in good spirits from the hospital bed, holding up one arm.

The Seattle Seahawks quarterback sustained a finger injury during a game against the Los Angeles Rams on October 7. The NFL player pulled out during the second half of the game after he injured his finger on his throwing hand, which happened after he came into contact with the Rams’ defensive lineman Aaron Donald.

The quarterback underwent surgery for a ruptured tendon on his middle finger on his right hand. The athlete is expected to miss as much as six to eight weeks of games due to the surgery, USA Today reported on Friday. The unfortunate injury comes a few days after he set a new NFL record, too.

During a game on October 3, he became the fastest quarterback to reach 100 wins following the Seahawks’ victory over the San Francisco 49ers. On Instagram on October 4, Ciara celebrated her husband’s victory with a sweet video that featured their son Win, 1, dancing to the Queen song “”We Are the Champions.”

Little Win looked dapper in a navy blue suit while holding sunglasses. “That feeling when you get the WIN, and you learn Daddy made history today by becoming the fastest QB in @NFL history to reach 100 wins!” Ciara captioned the post. “Proud of you @DangeRussWilson. You inspire us all!” The couple, who wed in 2016, also share daughter Sienna, 4, together.

On his own Instagram account on Friday, Russell shared a snapshot from the hospital. “Lion Heart,” he captioned the post, which featured the athlete in a wheelchair and his right hand bandaged.
