Kalan.FrFr Praises Jazmine Sullivan & Suggests They Collab Together: We’d Make ‘Some Dope Music’

Rising rap star and Roc Nation signee Kalan.FrFr talks with HL about his new ‘Role Models’ music video, how LA hip-hop is keeping it ‘real,’ and why he’d love to work with ‘hard’ women like Jazmine Sullivan.

“I wouldn’t really even say I’m special. I’m just blessed,” Kalan.FrFr says during an EXCLUSIVE interview with HollywoodLife. His fans and followers might disagree with that assessment. The Carson, California native has been working hard to become one of the next big names in hip-hop. After building a buzz on the back of his 2018 releases (Hurt and TwoFr), Kalan.FrFr. signed with Roc Nation, put out his debut album (TwoFr 2 and the recently released extended version), and was named one of Billboard’s Emerging LA artists for 2021. He also just teamed with Bobby Fishscale on the new song/video “Role Models.” When Kalan says “the sky’s the limit” to his success during the interview, it feels like he’s not lying. There’s a confidence and a coolness to Kalan.FrFr, a natural charm that hints that this man’s about to blow up in ways no one has thought.

So, how is he going to get to that next level? A well-timed, high-profile collab might do the trick, and as Kalan tells HollywoodLife, he has a few people he’d love to work with. “I got a couple of songs I want Jazmine Sullivan on. She hard,” he says when asked if he would work with female rappers/singers in the future. “I like her voice. But like I like a lot of female artists. I like Kehlani. I like Jhene Aiko. I like Summer Walker. And you know, it’s just, you know, if, if I’m lucky enough to be able to work with them one day. I hope we just make some dope music.”

If there’s something Kalan knows, it’s how to make some “dope music.” That, and being 100% authentic. “I like to keep it real, you know,” he says. Realness is important to Kalan, who emphasizes that his music shows “my real feelings, my real emotions — you know, I’m really Kalan. That’s my real name. We just stand on everything we believe in. That’s the part of the ‘too for real’ movement. I’m from Los Angeles, California, and you know we just hold it down [in LA.]  You know, just everything that got to do with for real.”

Kalan also expanded on the LA scene. “There’s a lot of hard artists out of LA,” he says. “It’s not our fault that we get stuck in the box. It’s just we just got a different sound, a different way of living. It’s just because of where we come from….it just happens that everybody wants to come to LA. So we get hit with everybody’s music too. You know what I mean? So as long as we just tapping in and just make sure with other people, the sky’s the limit. It’s the beginning. It’s the expansion and the growth — it’s like, there’s no limit on that. No cap.”

During Kalan’s talk with HollywoodLife, the “Never Lose You” rapper discussed coming close to death while filming the video, his upcoming tour, and what fans can expect next.

‘RHOC’s Heather Dubrow Reveals The Reason Why She’ll ‘Never’ Join ‘RHUGT’

Although she’s returned to ‘RHOC,’ Heather Dubrow shared she’s ‘never’ going to consider joining ‘Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip’ in the latest episode of our podcast.

Heather Dubrow just made her triumphant return to The Real Housewives of Orange County, but she’s not planning on joining The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip any time soon. While speaking with the reality star on our Pay Attention Puh-Lease podcast, Heather shared why she’d forgo an “all-stars” experience.

“Never. It’s never happening,” Heather firmly stated on the podcast. “I think it’s a phenomenal idea and I am not judging it at all. It looks fun and I haven’t watched it yet … it’s just not my thing.” The 52-year-old explained how it’s “so hard” to deal with the drama of a regular season of Housewives, much less a Housewives mash-up. “At least, you know, with one group of people that I know and this is an authentic group that I have friendships with and relationships with is one thing, but to go off … I don’t know, it sounds like too much anxiety for me!”

Heather, who was on the show from Season 7 through 11, made her return to Season 16 much to fan excitement. When we asked whether or not she’d consider returning if she was asked back again, the podcaster noted that at this point in the game, she “couldn’t say,” but she certainly stays open. “I think we’ve made a really good season. I think the audience is going to be incredibly satisfied and it’s what I think they were asking for and in that way I think it’s great,” she shared.

“It’s a transitional season in the best way and it ends in a way that I’ve never ended a season before so I think it’s gonna be great,” she teased, also saying, “Ask me again in a few months!” about returning.

Irina Shayk supported ex Bradley Cooper at the premiere of his film ‘Nightmare Alley,’ sparking speculation that the two are back together.

Irina Shayk gave a pinstripe suit a sexy update at the premiere of ex-boyfriend Bradley Cooper’s film Nightmare Alley in New York on Wednesday, Dec. 1. The model, 35, paired the black suit with plunging leather suspenders as she posed on the black carpet, once again sparking speculation that she and Bradley, 46, have reconciled following their 2019 split.

The model slicked her hair back and opted for a bold red lip for the evening, while Bradley — whom she shares daughter Lea, 4, with — looked dapper in a black suit. The former couple did not pose together at the premiere of the film, a 1940s crime thriller about an ambitious carny who has the talent of manipulating others. The movie is based on the 1946 novel of the same name by William Lindsay Gresham.

Bradley leads the ensemble cast as Stanton Carlisle. Rooney Mara, Cate Blanchett, Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe, and Richard Jenkins also star in the Guillermo del Toro-directed rendition, which serves as a remake of sorts of the 1947 film adaptation. At the premiere on Wednesday evening, Bradley told Entertainment Tonight that having Irina there was “very special.”

It’s unclear if the couple, who dated for four years prior to their split, are back together. However, the premiere isn’t the first time they’ve sparked reconciliation rumors. Ahead of Thanksgiving, Bradley and Irina were spotted strolling arm-in-arm in New York in mid-November. Following the sighting, a source told Page Six that the co-parents celebrated Thanksgiving together with Lea.

According to the outlet, the former couple and their daughter went to the ballet together for The Nutcracker, reportedly meeting up with Anne Hathaway and her husband Adam Schulman. “They looked very happy,” the source said. “Everybody was smiling and giggling.”

While generally private about her relationship and family, Irina offered rare comments about co-parenting while on the digital cover of ELLE‘s March issue: “I never understood the term co-parenting. When I’m with my daughter, I’m 100 percent a mother, and when she’s with her dad, he’s 100 percent her dad.” Irina also called Bradley the “most amazing dad.”

Jonah Hill Rocks Bushy Beard & Long Hair As Jerry Garcia On Set Of ‘Grateful Dead’ Biopic — Photo

Jonah Hill was almost unrecognizable as he was seen dressed in a tie-dye hoodie and matching shorts while getting ready to portray Jerry Garcia in Martin Scorsese’s upcoming Grateful Dead biopic.

Jonah Hill, 37, is gearing up to take on the incredible role of Jerry Garcia from the Grateful Dead on the small screen and is already looking the part! The actor was photographed walking around the set of the upcoming biopic about the band, which is directed by Martin Scorsese, in West Hollywood, CA on Nov. 30, and looked a lot like the late singer with a bushy beard and long hair. He also wore a tie-dye hoodie and matching shorts by Camp High, which was clearly inspired by the 1960s era in which Jerry lived.

In addition to his shirt and shorts, Jonah wore tie-dye socks and Off-White x Nike Dunk Lows that appeared to be a tribute to their fashion designer Virgil Abloh, who died at the age of 41 a few days ago. He also puffed on a cigarette and looked relaxed as he gets ready to film what will definitely be a memorable flick.

The untitled Grateful Dead biopic will “chronicle the band’s formation in the Bay Area as the ’60s psychedelic counterculture movement started to take off,” according to Variety. The band was known for being one of the bands that catapulted the rise of psychedelic counterculture and toured the country with devoted fans known as Deadheads. Jerry, who struggled with heroin and cocaine addictions throughout his life, died of a heart attack at the age of 53 in 1995.

In addition to starring in the highly-anticipated film, Jonah will produce it with his company Strong Baby along with his producing partner Matt Dines. Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski of American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson will write the script and surviving Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann will executive produce it along with Jerry’s daughter Trixie Garcia, Eric Eisner and Bernie Cahill.

The movie is being developed by Apple and when asked about why he chose to direct it, Martin reportedly said, “The Grateful Dead were more than just a band. They were their own planet, populated by millions of devoted fans.”
