Kanye West Reportedly Opening ‘Donda’ Prep School In Los Angeles To Create ‘Next Generation Of Thinkers’

Kanye West

Kanye West is reportedly opening a California prep school named for his late mother Donda, who was a university professor in Chicago.

Kanye West, 44, is expanding his horizons beyond music and fashion with an educational institute. The Illinois native is reportedly opening the Donda Academy just outside of Los Angeles named for his late mother Donda West who passed away in 2007. Notably, Donda was a professor at the Chicago State University’s English department, and taught at the post-secondary level for 31 years.

Kanye’s name is not mentioned anywhere on the website, which boasts a mission statement, admissions page and contact email. HollywoodLife has reached out to the institution for confirmation that Kanye is involved. It was also reported that the facility will be located between Simi Valley and the Moorpark area at a shuttered private school, per local Los Angeles news affiliate CBS 2. No opening date is advertised on the simple black website, which features bold, capitalized gray text.

“Using an ethic of integrity and care, Donda Academy prepares students to become the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and innovators by providing them with a world-class education that includes a rigorous core curriculum and emphasis on sustainability, creativity, critical thinking and problem solving,” the mission statement page reads.

The homepage of the site offers further detail about the school’s intentions, including a subtle reference to the institution being Christian based. “Finding the intersection between faith and the innovation of the future, Donda Academy is focused on equipping students with an education that will last in the ever-changing world.” An admissions page is linked just below, inquiring about which “educational pathway” prospective students are interested in.

The school is also reportedly backed by Adidas, who produces Kanye’s Yeezy line, with a focus on building a strong basketball team to compete with Los Angeles private school Sierra Canyon (also the alma mater of Kendall and Kylie Jenner), per Yahoo! Sports. High school prospects have taken to Instagram to confirm they’ve been reached out to by the rapper to potentially enroll in the yet-to-be-opened school, including North Carolina’s Robert Dillingham, Georgia’s Jahki Howard and New Jersey’s Zion Cruz, the website also indicated.

Post Modern: 6 Collaborations That Proved Virgil Abloh’s Creativity Was One Of A Kind

Lets take a look at some of the dopest collaborations Virgil Abloh left behind that not only proved it’s possible, but showcased his incredible mind.

Yesterday, the world was stunned when news broke that Virgil Abloh passed after losing his private battle with a rare heart cancer. Virgil is one of the few we can honestly say made every second of his life count and did everything he could while he was here. You name it, V designed it. From sneakers to water bottles, it didn’t matter—he believed you could give a creative take that resonated with any collaboration.

To celebrate the legacy he left behind, let’s review some of Virgil’s most iconic collaborations.

6. Virgil Abloh X IKEA

Virgil’s IKEA collaberation was one of the most sought after collabs he worked on and had fans camping outside of their local IKEA hoping to snag just one product in the launch. From clocks, to chairs, and even rugs, there was something for everyone and the price point was pocket friendly.

5. Virgil Abloh x Moët & Chandon

Alot of Virgil’s work was simplistic but also elevated the product to new heights, making them must haves for the culture. One of his simple yet stunning designs came by way of him redesigning a Moët bottle with “DO NOT DROP”. Not only did you instantly know it was design by Virgil, but in the club, it made a statement being your hand.

4. Virgil Abloh x OFF–WHITE x Nike “The Ten”

After Kanye West joined Adidas, the brand keep the momentum going rallying behind the Ultra Boost model and collaborations with other musicians like Pharrell. Nike, for the first time, wasn’t the biggest brand, that title belonged to Adidas.

However, once Nike announced ‘The Ten’ collection designed by Virgil, they immediately had the hype and brand back in the top spot. Nowadays, these sneakers sell for up to 50x the original value and will continue to go up with the news of Virgil’s passing.

3.  Virgil Abloh x Evian Water

Virgil teamed up with Evian Water to give his take on their classic water bottle and while small in scale, the water bottles flew off shelves regardless. He did a simplistic take with “Make A Rainbow” on the packaging.

2.  Virgil Abloh x Mercedes Benz

When it was revealed Virgil would be designing a car for Mercedes Benz, we all instantly knew the price would be outrageous, but we still wanted to see exactly what would Virgil create. Instead of going right, Virgil went left and turned the G-Wagon into a rally car completely lowered to the ground. Virgil and Mercedes are still scheduled to unviel an electric car next week on December 1st.

1.  Virgil Abloh x Jacob & Co.

Virgil partnered with iconic jewler Jacob & Company to reimagine office supplies as high end jewerly. The collection took paper clips, iced them out, and made necklaces, bracelets, and earrings for those who love out of the box ideas.

BRELAND: 5 Things To Know About The Viral Country Star

BRELAND: 5 Things To Know About The Viral Country Star

Who needs eighty tiny reindeer when you have four-wheel drive? BRELAND, the cross-over country star behind ‘My Truck,’ will be part of ‘CMA Country Christmas,’ so here’s what you need to know.

No need to worry if the weather outside is frightful during the 12th Annual CMA Country Christmas – so long as Santa Claus remembered to bring snow chains for BRELAND. The viral singer behind “My Truck” is taking part in the Nov. 29 special, airing on ABC at 8/7c. With first-time hosts and performers Gabby Barrett and Carly Pearce, BRELAND will do his best rendition of “The Christmas Song,” the holiday classic made famous by Mel Tormé. For BRELAND, his involvement with CMA Country Christmas continues his goal of becoming a “cross country” artist, one that melds different genres and sounds into a modern country vibe.

“I’m making the musical equivalent of chicken-and-rice dishes right now,” BRELAND told the Nashville Scene. “Country’s often used to making chicken and rice with one seasoning. Instead, I’m sampling the whole cabinet of flavors. Ears are like palates to me, and I’m serving familiar dishes in ways that people haven’t experienced before.” So, before BRELAND serves up a plateful of holiday cooking, here’s what you need to know.

1. BRELAND Is A Country Singer From The Garden State.

BRELAND (born Daniel Breland) didn’t grow up in Nebraska, Wyoming, or deep in the heart of Texas. He was raised in New Jersey, growing up in a family of gospel singers, according to The New York Times. He sang and arranged The Phantoms, an acapella group, while he studied at Georgetown. During his sophomore year, he was working in the Far Rockaway home of rapper Chinx. “He left and said, ‘I’m going to go do this show,’” said BRELAND. Except, Chinx never returned. He was murdered in Queens, and BRELAND took that as a sign.

“That let me know that hip-hop probably wasn’t going to be for me,” he said. “I don’t think that I’m really cut out to be in the trenches like that.”

2. He Is The Singer Behind The Song ‘My Truck.’

“I was aware of the fact that the biggest record of all time is a country-trap song by an unknown artist from Atlanta, and now no one else is putting out songs that sound like that,” BRELAND told The New York Times in May 2020, referring to “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X. “Wide open. Why on earth would I not give it a shot?”

After graduation, BRELAND moved to Atlanta and began writing. With the success of “Old Town Road,” BRELAND posted “My Truck” in early 2020. It blew up on TikTok (over 800k videos used the audio) and peaked at No. 28 on the Hot Country Songs chart while reaching No. 92 on The Hot 100. He released a self-titled EP in 2020 and followed it up with “Rage & Sorrow,” a two-track reflection on the murder of George Floyd.

In 2021, he put out the singles “Cross Country” (including a version with Mickey Guyton), “Strawberry Wine,” and “Throw It Back” (featuring Keith Urban.)

3. He Is Popular on TikTok.

“I didn’t have a TikTok [account] before I put [‘My Truck’] up,” BRELAND told Billboard in 2021. “I put the song out in September of 2019, and TikTok wasn’t what it is now, right? It was just literally a button that I clicked on the website I used to put the song on iTunes and the streaming platforms. I was like, ‘Okay, yeah, I’ve heard of TikTok, I’ll put it on there.’ So, when it started to blow up on TikTok, I was like, ‘Okay, I need to figure out how this works and what this even is.’”

As of November 2021, he has over 468k followers and 2.5 million likes on the clock app.

4. He Isn’t Worried About Being Called A One Hit Wonder.

BRELAND’s “Cross Country” is more than a song. “Initially, was more of a concept for a movement or a genre or a sub-genre of country music, even before it was a song,” he told Billboard. “I had this idea that it crossed countries. It’s my classification for all of the music that intersects, country and other genres like R&B, hip-hop, dance, whatever. So, ‘My Truck,’ theoretically, would be a cross country song.”

“I think that the advantage that I have is that I’m a songwriter first and foremost,” he says when asked if he’s worried that “My Truck” might pigeonhole him. “It’s not like I lucked up on ‘My Truck.’ It wasn’t an accident, you know. I’ve written with Florida Georgia Line, Chris Brown, Justin Bieber, Trey Songz, Keith Urban, and Sam Hunt and people across a lot of different genres and given them songs that they’re really excited about. I don’t see why it would be different writing stuff for myself.”

3. He Is Just Getting Started.

As someone who defies genre and keeps one foot in the country world and the other in hip-hop (he had two managers specifically for those purposes), BRELAND is not going to be limited. In fact, he’s already planning to take country to new territories and sounds. “I really want to give people some more music before we delve into a whole album, so we’ve got some singles mapped out,” he told Billboard. “A couple have features, potentially from some of the people that I’ve mentioned. We might have a country twerk song, we might have just a straight-up ballad, and we might have like a country ‘Uptown Funk’ type of song.”

Saweetie, Lil Baby, Jayda Wayda & Quavo Get Entangled In A Messtangle, Spark Hilarious Chaos

Sooo uhhhh….

By now, you’ve probably tumbled down the Lil Baby, Saweetie, Jayda Wayda, and Quavo rabbit hole that started when Saweetie shared a photo dump featuring a pic of her sitting on the lap of a mystery boo who CSI: Twitter quickly identified as Lil Baby based on photo evidence.

This came after loud whispers about Lil Baby and Saweetie quietly canoodling months after the Icy girl’s messy split from Quavo who isn’t on the best of terms with his fellow Quality Control star.

You may recall Offset reportedly being robbed of everything but his boxers by a member of Lil Baby’s 4PF crew which may explain the lack of Migos/Baby synergy the past few years.

There also was apparent shade thrown by Baby during the Migos promo run for their hit single “Straightenin.”

While there’s no video footage or reliable sources confirming the rumors, CSI: Twitter noticed that Offset unfollowed Lil Baby on Instagram amid the chaos.

Knowing this, it’s easy to see why Lil Baby would go after Quavo’s ex-boo and reportedly lavish her with gifts and flowers.

Naturally, Baby claimed he’s single and denied blowing $100K on a shopping spree for his suspected new boo who posted flowers sent by a person who may or may not be the “My Turn” rapper.

Seemingly responding to the buzzy rumors, Quavo wrote ‘we can swap it’ on his Instagram stories which stirred up speculation that he was referring to Lil Baby’s baby mama Jayda Cheaves who allegedly liked the post.

In addition to shooting down dating rumors, Baby responded to A) Saweetie posting them together or B) Jayda liking Quavo’s post (or C) BOTH) with a few late night tweets.

“B*tches really be weird!!” Moments later, he added, “If you want clout use BABY.”

At this point, we have no idea how this saga ends but it’s clear there’s more mess on the way.

What do you think is really going on? Tell us down below and peep the messiest reactions to the Baby, Saweetie, Jayda & Quavo on the flip.
