Olympic Fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad Alleges That Teacher ‘Ripped’ Second Grader’s Hijab Off, Educator’s Attorney Responds

A New Jersey family is reeling and preparing a lawsuit after they say a teacher violated a 7-year old Muslim girl and a famed Olympic fencer is helping to amplify their story.

Sumayyah Wyatt, a student at Maplewood, New Jersey’s Seth Boyden Elementary School told her mom Cassandra Wyatt that a teacher ripped her hijab off her head, embarrassing her in front of her classmates.

Cassandra Wyatt said she’s always told her daughter that her hijab is her protection so she’s especially disheartened, reports ABC 7.

“Now she’s asked me, ‘Well, if this is my protection, my teacher took this off of my head.’ So how can you explain to your child?” she said.

The Wyatt family lawyer told ABC 7 that the second-grader has always worn a headscarf to school as a part of her Muslim faith so on Wednesday, when the teacher allegedly told her to remove it, Sumayyh was puzzled and resisted.

“Ultimately, the teacher succeeds in pulling the hijab off her head, followed by a bizarre statement which is, ‘Your hair is beautiful,’” the attorney said. “It is incredibly disturbing. It is very, very, symbolic of disregard of her religion and certainly something that has affected my clients overall.”

The traumatized child is also reportedly “no longer interested” in wearing the Muslim garb after the incident and the family is ready to take legal action.

Samantha Harris, the attorney who represents the elementary school teacher, says however that this is all just a misunderstanding and she’s blaming social media for spreading “misinformation.”
According to Harris, her client asked the student to “pull down the hood on a hooded sweatshirt” not realizing that the hood was allegedly “being worn in place of” the child’s hijab.

“This is not a story about a teacher who forcibly removed a student’s hijab,” said attorney Harris via a statement. “This is a story about social media, misinformation, and what happens when people publicize rumors without any knowledge of or regard for the truth. (The teacher) did not, as has been alleged, forcibly remove a student’s hijab or tell a student that she should not have to wear a hijab. In accordance with school policy, (the teacher) directed a student in her class to pull down the hood on what appeared to be a hooded sweatshirt because it was blocking her eyes – and immediately rescinded that request when she realized that the student was wearing the hood in place of, rather than on top of, her usual hijab. The misinformation shared on social media has caused tremendous harm to (the teacher) – a teacher who, after more than 30 years of devoting her heart and soul to children of all backgrounds, has now had to ask for police protection due to the threats she is receiving following the dissemination of false information on social media.”

News of this incident was widely spread by Maplewood native and famed Olympic medalist fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad who took to Facebook to shed light on the incident.

“The young student resisted, by trying to hold onto her hijab, but the teacher pulled the hijab off, exposing her hair to the class,” Muhmmad said in the post.

“This is abuse. Schools should be a haven for all of our kids to feel safe, welcome and protected — no matter their faith.”

The South Orange Maplewood School District is investigating.

An Italian dentist who used a fake arm to get a Covid-19 mRNA vaccine has been suspended from his job.

Guido Russo, 57, is identified as the anti-vaxxer who went viral for using a fake arm to get the injection.

He is now under investigation for fraud, and has reportedly been suspended from his job, DailyMail.com reports.

Russo allegedly purchased the fake arm on Amazon.com, where a similar product is advertised as a “fake male chest arm” and “silicone body suit”.

Russo wore the silicone and foam arm to fool health authorities into giving him a Covid-19 vaccine pass.

The pass is required for indoor dining in restaurants, to enter theaters and to attend sporting events.

Unvaccinated Italians are banned from attending nearly every event where crowds are present.

After Russo’s name was released publicly, reporters showed up at his door.

Russo told the reporters: “You ruined my life. Go away. I’ll call the police.”

Khloé Kardashian Konfirms Kylie Jenner & Travis Scott Are ‘Very Much A Couple’ Despite Leaked W Mag Story Stating The Opposite

Khloé Kardashian Konfirms Kylie Jenner & Travis Scott Are ‘Very Much A Couple’ Despite Leaked W Mag Story Stating The Opposite

For some reason, the Kardashian/Jenner family really wants you to know that Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott are very much a couple.

Over the weekend, a new cover the couple shot for W Mag–presumably in early November–leaked online, showing the rapper, a pregnant Kylie, and their 3-year-old, Stormi Webster posing together. Though the publication scrapped the cover following Scott’s Astroworld festival, which left 10 attendees dead and hundreds injured, some copies still ended up being sent to subscribers, causing some contents to appear online.

The mag describes Kylie and Travis’ unconventional relationship, claiming the pair still isn’t a couple despite expecting another child together–but now, Jenner’s sister is confirming the opposite.

Relationship expert Khloé Kardashian took to the comments of a Tiktok video about the W Mag story, writing, “Wow i don’t know why this magazine would write this but they are very much a couple.”

After that, TMZ confirmed the same, reporting, “KJ and TS are 100% together at the moment — meaning they’re romantically involved and, presumably, exclusive too. Not just that, but we’re told they were a full-blown couple when this whole profile was coming together for W Mag.”

While Jenner and Scott have never confirmed their relationship again after breaking up two years ago, it seems weird for a journalist interviewing and writing a profile on the couple to assume they’re not together without being told as such. Did they just pull that out of thin air, or were they told different information at the time?

“Travis and Kylie seemed very comfortable under the sheets, but even though they will soon have two children together — their daughter, Stormi, is 3 — they are not a couple, and haven’t been in two years. They’re the modern family!” the W Mag story reads.

‘Lost In Space’s Mina Sundwall Reveals Why She’s ‘Really Proud’ Of How Penny’s Story Ended

‘Lost In Space’ wrapped up its 3-season run with a beautiful and touching finale. HL spoke EXCLUSIVELY with Mina Sundwall about Penny’s ending, possibly returning to the role down the road, and more.

Lost In Space’s third and final season ended with all of our favorite characters starting their next chapter. The final moments saw Penny writing a book about her family and the robots. She revealed that this is just the first chapter in her story. HollywoodLife got the chance to speak EXCLUSIVELY with Mina Sundwall about Penny’s fate.

“I, especially for Penny, was really proud of where her story ended,” Mina told HollywoodLife. “There were questions in season 1 and season 2 about what she could contribute and what her place in the family was. Something that I admired about her from the beginning was that she never put up a front, even if it would be easier to fit in. I think because of that, she was able to go on her own hero’s journey, so I’m pleased with where she ended up at the end of season 3.”

The ending of Lost In Space leaves it wide open for all of the characters. Mina has an idea of where she thinks Penny will do next. “I hope that she takes time when they arrive in Alpha Centauri and settles into writing,” Mina explained. “I think that she is the type of person that could be the voice for people who are often overlooked or not listened to and write stories that make a difference and matter. I would like to think that that’s where her journey goes.”

Mina admitted that the ending montage featuring Penny’s voiceover was “emotional to record. I thought it was beautiful. To be able to know where they ended up but not know everything about what happens is a special place to be in. I loved it.”

The series finale included a kiss between Penny and Vijay. Mina weighed in about the fate of that relationship. “It’s hard to say because their on-again, off-again, up and down, roller-coaster teenage relationship was partially due to the fact that they were going through this very, in many ways, traumatic journey together,” Mina said. “But also they were really the two teenagers. They’re really the only two. So there was not much choice. They got close because they were the two that understood each other the best because they were the closest in age. There was no one in their world really. I would hope that that maintains outside of the world. I think that they have gone through something together that is so specific to their age and the journey that they went on that I think that they’d be friends for a really long time. I don’t know about a romantic life for Penny, but at least friends.”

The Netflix series was a reboot of the CBS series that ran from 1965 to 1968. Since Hollywood is all about revivals, HollywoodLife asked Mina if she’d want to reprise the role of Penny down the road. “I don’t even know what I’m going to do tomorrow, so I have no idea,” she said. “I absolutely would think about it down the road, but I’d love to settle with these 3 seasons for a moment.”

For Mina, her journey on Lost In Space often mirrored her character. The tremendous impact of the show and Penny Robinson on Mina is not lost on the actress.

“It’s been the greater part of my life for the last 5 years,” Mina noted. “I started when I was 15 and I’m 20 now. I grew up with Penny. I grew up on this show in very formative years of my life. There are a lot of things that I drew from the character and from the show. She and I were always similar ages so some of the emotional twists and turns of teenage life we were going through at similar times. I was able to draw on her experience and her problem solving, and then my experience and mesh the two in this happy middle world as I was growing up. But then the experience of being on the show, of course, and being surrounded by so many talented, hard-working, caring, driven adults to look up to and learn from, I’m eternally grateful for because that’s taught me much about how I act, whether that’s on set or in life and what I value and how I can communicate. It’s been fantastic. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
