Parents File Lawsuit Against Minnesota Charter School System Over Racist Bullying Of Students And Violent Attacks

Who in the hell is in charge of these schools nowadays?!

It seems as if every single week we are profiling new incidents of overt racism and violence at some place of education in America. We’ve seen everything from “slave auctions” to secret Snapchats where white students go to post hateful messages about their Black classmates. One would think that these students’ parents would be appalled but have a feeling those parents are the ones who taught them to think that way in the first place.

According to MSNBC, a group of parents in Minnesota have filed a lawsuit against Duluth Edison Charter Schools for their failure and outright refusal to protect the elementary school and middle school children from egregious levels of abuse.

“There’s been a lot of frustrated families in the Duluth Edison community,” said Rebekah Bailey, an attorney representing the parents. “The families in this case, all they really ever wanted is for their children to be treated fairly at school. They fought long and hard to remedy their individual situations as best they could through the system. This case was only filed when they exhausted those opportunities.”

The suit details numerous incidents that have brought serious harm to multiple children. It states that white students routinely, bit, punched, kicked, and spit on Black students while calling them the n-word, “monkey” and other derogatory taunts. In one of the worst cases, a biracial child who attended North Star Academy had a white classmate threaten to stab her eye out with a screwdriver because she looked “different”. White students allegedly pinched and kicked the girl on several occasions and once she was punched so hard that her ribs were bruised. The girl’s father said administrators “avoided” him and failed to take any action  against the perpetrator.

In another case, a Black student was spit on so much by a white classmate that she had to change clothes.

This is Amerikkka.

Travis Scott’s Offer To Pay Funeral Expenses Of Astroworld Victim, 9, Denied By Boy’s Family

Travis Scott’s legal team received a letter rejecting the rapper’s offer to pay for the funeral of 9-year-old Ezra Blount, the youngest of the 10 Astroworld victims.

The family of Ezra Blount, the 9-year-old who was killed from injuries sustained at the Nov. 5 Astroworld concert, has rejected Travis Scott‘s offer to pay for the young boy’s funeral. In a letter obtained by Rolling Stone on November 29, Blount family lawyer Bob Hilliard told Travis’ legal team, “Your client’s offer is declined. I have no doubt Mr. Scott feels remorse. His journey ahead will be painful. He must face and hopefully see that he bears some of the responsibility for this tragedy.” Ezra was the youngest of the ten victims of the Astroworld tragedy, which involved a dangerous crowd surge ensuing while Travis, 30, was on stage performing at NRG Park in Houston, Texas, in front of around 50,000 people.

Travis’ initial offer to cover Ezra’s funeral expenses came from his lawyer Daniel Petrocelli. It was sent via letter to Bob Hilliard and Ben Crump, who are representing the Blount family, on November 24 — the day after Ezra was laid to rest at a funeral in Texas, Rolling Stone reported. Daniel’s letter read, “Travis is devastated by the tragedy that occurred at the Astroworld Festival and grieves for the families whose loved ones died or were injured. Travis is committed to doing his part to help the families who have suffered and begin the long process of healing in the Houston community. Toward that end, Travis would like to pay for the funeral expenses for Mr. Blount’s son.”

Ezra was sitting on the shoulders of his father, Treston Blount, when he was trampled during the concert. He died on November 14, after being placed in a medically-induced coma from his injuries, according to The New York Post. Ezra was the tenth person to pass from the incident. The other nine victims were John Hilgert, 14, Brianna Rodriguez, 16, Jacob Jurinek, 20, Franco Patino, 21, Axel Acosta, 21, Rodolfo ‘Rudy’ Peña, 23, Madison Dubiski, 23, Danish Baig, 27, and Bharti Shahani, 22.

Currently, Travis is facing around 120 lawsuits of more than $3 billion due to the Astroworld incident. Live Nation, ScoreMore, and Cactus Jack Records have also been named in some of the suits, as has Drake, who was brought out as a special guest at the concert. The day after the incident, Travis posted a statement and a video on social media that revealed his shock and “devastation” over the tragedy.

“I’m absolutely devastated by what took place last night,” he said. “My prayers go out to the families all those impacted by what happened at Astroworld Festival. Houston PD has my total support as they continue to look into the tragic loss of life. I am committed to working together with the Houston community to heal and support the families in need.”

Curly Cutie Gets Crowned! Reporter Bae Miss Kentucky Elle Smith Crowned Miss USA 2021

Smith took the crown on Monday night at the River Spirit Casino Resort in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was presented with the crown by Miss USA 2020 Asya Branch, and will be making her way straight to Israel to compete at the Miss Universe pageant on December 12.

The 23-year-old works full-time as a reporter and said being a journalist is “a role I take very seriously.” During the pageant’s question and answer round, she spoke about subjects including honesty and sustainability, revealing that her “most important core value” was honesty.

“We’ve got to look at it from a macro and also a micro level,” Smith said, encouraging businesses to be more environmentally conscious. “So at the macro level, companies need to switch to green energy — I think that’s something we can all agree on.”

She continued, “But then, at the micro level, we all know how to reduce, reuse, and recycle, and those are all things we can implement in our daily life.”

While winning Miss USA is usually a feat that follows years and years of dedication to pageants, Elle Smith actually competed in her very first pageant just six months ago.

She got her first taste of the Miss USA stage on Sunday night during the State Costume Contest. Smith dressed as a jockey to honor the Kentucky Derby, with the blue-and-white outfit also paying tribute to her alma mater, the University of Kentucky. Smith graduated from the university in May 2020 with a degree in broadcast journalism.

Now, she works as a full-time reporter at WHAS, an ABC affiliate in Louisville, Kentucky.

Congratulations, Elle!
