Jesse Spencer Reveals Why He’s Leaving ‘Chicago Fire’ After 10 Seasons: ‘It Was A Difficult Decision’

Matthew Casey has left Firehouse 51. The character said goodbye during the show’s 200th episode. Jesse Spencer explained why he’s leaving ‘Chicago Fire’ and admitted it wasn’t an easy decision.

Matthew Casey bid farewell to Chicago Fire for a very emotional reason during the October 20 episode of the show, which happened to be the firefighter drama’s 200th episode. Casey decides to leave Chicago and move to Oregon to take care of the Darden boys, the sons of his late friend Andy. Jesse Spencer has been the leader of Chicago Fire since day one and explained why he decided to leave in season 10.

“I think over the years I realized I’ve been doing TV for a long time,” Jesse told reporters, including HollywoodLife, during a press conference. “I added it up and I think this year is my 18th year of television straight. I went straight from House into Chicago Fire. We were coming up to the 200th episode, so I called Derek on making a personal decision. I called Derek and broke the news that I thought it was time to leave the show, and he agreed that we should at least get Casey to 200 episodes. It was a difficult decision because I’ve loved the show from the start, but there’s other things that I would like to do in the future and so some family that I need to take care of. And 18 years is a long time. That’s a long stretch.”

He added, “I was marking off these milestones and looking to the future, and I called Derek [Haas] and, well, Derek didn’t want me to leave but we both agreed that if it was time for me, then it was time. It was a difficult decision that night, and I hate to leave the show because I do love this show, but when the time comes the time comes.”

Derek, who is Chicago Fire’s creator and showrunner, said that “anything past the first 13 episodes was a bonus.” He admitted that he felt like they’d been on “borrowed time for a long time. Of course, I want to talk Jesse into staying and coming back and doing all the things as long as we could, but I was very happy that he gave us 5 more episodes than just saying at the end of the season, which happens sometimes, too. That let us bring back a storyline from season 1, which I know Jessie was excited about when we pitched it to him, to bring back the Darden boys and really tie in the pilot to Jesse leaving.”

In the very first episode of the series, Casey’s longtime friend Andrew Darden was killed in the line of duty. He left behind his two young boys, Griffin and Ben. In the present day, Casey is moving to Oregon for at least 3 years to prevent the boys from going into foster care. Derek noted that “part of conceiving the storyline was to make it to where everyone understood why he was doing what he was doing so that you didn’t have to have this sort of haunted presence.”

Casey asks Brett to go with him, but she ultimately turns down his offer. She stays behind in Chicago, and they agree to try a long-distance relationship. “We’re going to see some obvious after-effects with Brett,” Derek teased. “It’s going to be hard on Brett going into a long-distance relationship and not knowing what the rules are of a long-distance relationship. All of that will be a big part of what’s going on at the beginning of the season.” Chicago Fire airs Wednesdays on NBC.

Amber Portwood Reveals Where Relationship With Leah, 13, Stands After ‘Teen Mom’ Drama

After a season of drama between ‘Teen Mom’ star Amber Portwood and her daughter Leah, Amber revealed in a new interview if she and the teenager are currently speaking.

Amber Portwood, 31, has made big progress in repairing her fractured relationship with 13-year-old daughter Leah. The Teen Mom OG star told Page Six on Tuesday (Nov. 30) that the mother-daughter duo’s relationship “is so much better” now, after Amber was estranged from her eldest child for months on the latest season of the MTV series. “I don’t want to mess anything up, but [things are] good,” Amber told the outlet. “She’s reaching [out] and I am [so excited]. My arms are up and open.”

Amber, who shares Leah with ex-fiancé Gary Shirley, also confirmed that she’s been truthful to her daughter about her controversial past, such as her prison sentence and struggles with substance abuse. “She’s been asking questions. I’ve always told her the truth, as much as I could for her age,” Amber explained. “As she’s gotten older, she’s learned more. With her age right now, she’s kind of like, ‘Well, I don’t like that attitude or behavior. I’m not like that.’ I think she has every right to be mad at me for a lot of things. I let her feel her emotions and I understand that.”

On the latest season of Teen Mom OG, Amber spent a lot of time away from her daughter, who lived with Gary, 35, and his wife Kristina Anderson. The distance was obviously hard for Amber, but the MTV star said that she realized she needed “to give her space because I know what my past was. And one day, she’ll come back and move forward.” Amber, who has a 3-year-old son, James, with ex Andrew Glennon, also told Page Six that Gary and Kristina were “a big help” amidst her turbulent relationship with Leah. “We try to be one big, blended family, which is so hard to do — and I’m sure a lot of people know this  — but we still try.”

Amber’s interview comes after the reality star sparred with Gary on the Teen Mom OG season 9 reunion, which aired on Tuesday night. Amber got very upset with her ex when Gary revealed that Leah is seeking therapy, something that Amber was unaware of. Things got so heated between the exes that the mother-of-two ended up storming off the reunion set. Viewers will be able to see what goes down next between Amber and Gary on Part 2 of the reunion, which airs Dec. 7, at 8pm on MTV.

Suspects Burglarize Lilly Ghalichi’s L.A. Home While Shahs of Sunset Star Vacations in Saint Barts

Lilly Ghalichi’s Caribbean vacation took a turn for the worse. While the Shahs of Sunset star was enjoying the ocean breeze of Saint Barts, she received some unexpected news.

Lilly has uploaded photos of the vacation on Instagram. Fans could see her posing on the beautiful beaches, with blue water in the background. In one snapshot, she held her purse and stared into the distance.

According to law enforcement who spoke with TMZ, suspects broke into Lilly’s L.A. home, where she lives with her husband Dara Mir. The burglary occurred on Friday night, while the pair were out of town.

Sources also told TMZ that the criminals may have seen Lilly’s vacation photos on social media, signaling that the coast was clear. There were three suspects total: one woman and two men.

According to sources, the woman was the lookout, while the men busted a window of the master closet, which caused the alarm to go off.

After hearing the siren, the suspects quickly departed from the scene, on foot, with no time to steal anything. As they scurried away, the cops and neighborhood watch tried to chase them down.

Now, Lilly and Dara are employing 24/7 armed security, according to the sources. Detectives already have a few possible leads, but no arrests were made.

The past two years have been tumultuous for Lilly and Dara. In 2019, Dara filed for divorce, though he eventually decided to dismiss the petition. The same thing occurred in 2020 (Lilly filed in August before they decided to reconcile).

Most likely, the incident put a permanent damper in their vacation. Fans of Shahs of Sunset, however, will be happy to hear that the couple is ok.
