google news

The possible coldest night of the year is behind Denver, as temperatures plunged to -7 degrees Wednesday evening. Thursday will remain cold with another bitter night ahead but the freeze should break this weekend.

Denver has remained below zero since about 7:30 p.m. last night. The Buckley Space Force Base recorded a reading of -8 degrees Thursday morning just before 6 a.m., two degrees warmer than the record low of -10 set in 1983.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, Denver will warm to a chilly 21 degrees on Thursday. Sunny skies will clear out early morning fog, and then again temperatures will plunge to near zero overnight. Denver is excepted to drop to around 3 degrees, with wind chill values as low as -8.

A dry and warming trend will begin Friday downtown; the high will reach 39 degrees. While the sun should help melt some of the 11.6 inches of snow Denver got, a low of 17 degrees could make for some icy spots. Increasing winds over the mountains Friday night will impact Denver on Saturday.
