Nhl Experiencing Sustained Growth With Female, Younger Fans

One of the biggest stories in the NHL this season has been the increase in viewers in the league’s first year of its television contracts with ESPN and TNT. The league is also seeing unparalleled growth in female and younger fans that should have a big impact for years to come.

According to NHL research, 37% of hockey fans are female, including an eye-popping 26% growth in that demographic since 2016. Most of those new fans are likely within the coveted 18-49 age demographic, too, since nearly 40% of all NHL fans are under 50.

Kali Mick — an Avalanche fan who lives in Colorado and is part of the league’s Power Players youth advisory board — said the recent growth comes as the league has showcased more of the human side of the game.

“We’re seeing more player interviews, family moments and those heartfelt things that happen off the ice, as well as this mix of the great highlights that we’re also seeing.,” she said. “That’s been really great to help get more people in the game because people who don’t know the sport will connect more with the human moments. And then the highlights will keep their attention.”

The increase among female viewers was higher during Wednesday night games on TNT. During the regular season, there was a 44% jump in female viewers compared to previous years, when the games were aired on NBCSN.

“Not only do we want to give our avid fans the content that they love, but how can we share it with casual and new fans and make sure that they feel welcome,” said Heidi Browning, the NHL’s senior executive vice president and top marketing officer.

The effort to grow connections has include social media. The league formed a content partnership with TikTok while the agreement with Turner led to Bleacher Report expanding its coverage and the B/R Open Ice vertical. Bleacher Report’s hockey site posted its most viewed month (35.8 million page views) in May and saw engagement triple compared to last year.

Browning is also pleased with the NHL’s share of young fans. League research found that 80% of the users on its digital channels are Gen Z and millennial. The Power Players board, created in 2019, seeks the opinions of fans and social influencers ages 13-17.

Aidan Gunn, who is also part of the board, pointed to the changes in marketing for the growth.

“They’ve taken a less professional approach to their marketing. And I mean that in the best way possible. It’s so much more personal,” he said. “I truly believe that social media is basically an elevator pitch, you have two seconds to capture somebody’s attention. And I think (in) the NHL that’s entirely reflected in their marketing strategy recently. They’ve done so much better with sprucing up all of their content.”

Mick said of the things she has noticed from the board’s recommendations is more activity on TikTok showing things like the players walking into the arena, in the same way the pregame fashion choices have increased traffic on NBA and NFL sites.

The growth in younger fans should also lead to increased revenue in future seasons. Commissioner Gary Bettman said revenue should be in excess of $5.2 billion for this year. While the off-ice stories have helped, Bettman continues to stress it is also about the product on the ice.

“The growth and interest starts with the game,” said Bettman before the start of the Stanley Cup Final.

The NHL’s efforts got a bonus Friday night as the final was pushed to Game 6 on Sunday night, where Tampa Bay will host Colorado and try to force a deciding Game 7 in its three-peat championship bid.

Chiliz, Near Protocol, and Proprivex Token (PPX)- Top 3 Cryptocurrencies You Should Consider Following in the Bear Market

Cryptocurrencies

The all-time highs of cryptocurrencies in 2021 seem like a distant memory as major crypto assets lost value following the 2022 crypto collapse, which ended their historic bullish trend. However, as investors have been steering clear of riskier assets, cryptocurrency has been hammered particularly hard. Additionally, institutions and other major players in the space that made investments close to the market’s peak are under pressure due to the recent crypto crash.

Investing in cryptocurrencies comes with its own risks, just like any other investment. However, we’ve put together three crypto projects worth considering following the bear market. Chiliz (CHZ), Near Protocol (NEAR), and the latest project, Proprivex Token (PPX), have features that make them worthy of consideration.

Cryptocurrencies
Chiliz, Near Protocol, and Proprivex Token (PPX)- Top 3 Cryptocurrencies You Should Consider Following in the Bear Market

Chiliz (CHZ) – Bringin Sports Fans Together

Alexandre Dreyfus, the CEO and creator of Socios created Chiliz in 2018 to bring together sports fans and their preferred teams. Socios developed the Chiliz network and Socios platform after raising $66 million in a private placement fundraising round headed by Jump Trading. As part of a significant partnership with Juventus, Socios launched its platform in 2019, enabling users to exchange CHZ for JUV tokens. Since then, Socios has collaborated with several champions league soccer teams, including FC Barcelona.

The Chiliz (CHZ) network is connected to a secondary sidechain or blockchain used by the fan token platform. Sports organizations can decide to put up their sidechain and tailor the number of fan tokens they want to circulate. The Chiliz network charges transaction fees to teams who choose to issue fan tokens. The native cryptocurrency of the Chiliz network is  CHZ, enabling users to buy Fan Tokens on Socios.com. The token was initially released as an Ethereum-based ERC-20 token. Still, after entering into a strategic collaboration with Binance, it also started offering Binance Smart Chain BEP-2 versions of the token.

Near Protocol (NEAR) – The Community-led Token

The NEAR Protocol (NEAR) was designed as a community-run cloud computing platform and featured a public Proof-of-Stake (PoS) blockchain with smart contract functionality. NEAR, created by the NEAR Collective, aims to compete with Ethereum and other top smart contract-enabled blockchains like EOS and Polkadot by being built to host decentralized applications (dApps). The native token of Near Protocol, also known as NEAR, is used to cover transaction and storage costs. Token owners who take part in reaching network consensus by acting as transaction validators may also stake NEAR tokens.

Near Protocol aims to provide a platform that is both user and developer friendly. Near Protocol has included features like enabling new users to connect with dApps and smart contracts without ever needing to create a wallet to fulfill this aim. As well as the option to develop human-readable account names rather than just cryptographic wallet addresses. Mintbase, a non-fungible token(NFT) minting platform, and Flux, a protocol that enables developers to build markets based on assets, commodities, real-world events, and more, are examples of projects based on the Near Protocol.

What Is Proprivex Token (PPX)?

Proprivex Token (PPX) is a platform for trading and managing portfolios focused on digital assets and currencies. Usually, traditional financial assets are managed differently from

digital assets based on laid-down standards. Also, the markets, risks, volatility, and security hazards are all completely different since the bulk of their features varies. The crypto project aims to make it easier for crypto investors to manage multiple portfolios from a single location. Proprivex Token aims to make blockchain accessible to all users with ease and comfort.

Proprivex Token is constructing an intuitive ecosystem to alter public perceptions of blockchain technology and digital assets. Because of the ecosystem’s efficient and safe capabilities, various crypto assets can be traded, staked, managed, and fully secured. Previously, specific self-acclaimed individuals and organizations have promised to help crypto investors manage their portfolios effectively, all to no avail.

Column: Dylan Cease-Justin Verlander matchup brings us back to a time when ace starters ruled baseball

Column: Dylan Cease-Justin Verlander Matchup Brings Us Back To A Time When Ace Starters Ruled Baseball

Dylan Cease admitted Monday he sometimes thinks about his chances of winning the American League Cy Young Award during his breakout season.

Chalk it up to the joy of youth?

“Old guys think about it too,” Justin Verlander said with a laugh. “It’s very natural.”

Cease, the 26-year-old Chicago White Sox ace, faces Verlander, the 39-year-old Cy Young favorite, on Tuesday night at Guaranteed Rate Field in the second game of a key series between the Sox and Houston Astros.

Monday’s 4-2, come-from-behind Sox victory was an appetizer for the main course, and both starters seemed primed for the showdown.

“Two guys having good years, and it’ll be fun,” Verlander said. “I don’t think you get a lot of moments where you get two guys having great years like this matchup. Things have to align, so it’s very exciting.”

The game has changed so much over the years, with starters getting lifted even after six or seven no-hit innings and front-office executives game-planning the pitching moves with the manager hours before the first pitch.

Whether it’s better or worse for the game is in the eye of the beholder. To some of us dinosaurs, turning the game over to anonymous relievers is never as fun as watching two dominant pitchers trying to outduel each other for nine innings, even if their stuff isn’t quite as good as it was the first time through the order.

But that’s irrelevant now. Baseball never will go back to the days when a starter throwing well wouldn’t give up the ball unless it was pried out of his hand. Analytics have turned managers into drones. “Five and dive” has been replaced with “five and survive.”

All we can do is appreciate the rare occasions when two dominant starters go head-to-head in a regular-season game — and hope the managers understand this is entertainment. Many fans want to see which pitcher comes out on top, not which one gives his team a chance to win with 85 pitches.

Tony La Russa and Dusty Baker are the kind of old-school managers one might think would give their starters a little more leeway in a marquee matchup such as Verlander-Cease. We’ll see.

They’re also new-school thinkers when it comes to ensuring their aces are still healthy and durable come October, so don’t expect a return to the days when pitch counts were thrown out the window.

Still, Baker knows it’s something the game needs.

“I was thinking about it today,” he said. “This is like when I was a kid — (Sandy) Koufax and Juan Marichal, or Don Drysdale and Gaylord Perry, Ferguson Jenkins and Bob Gibson. These are classic, classic (matchups). I remember when Don Sutton on our team (the Los Angeles Dodgers) was facing Nolan Ryan.

“I’m going to have to really be careful and make sure I don’t spectate and manage. Because if I was at home, I’d get me a bowl of popcorn and some beer and the only time I’d leave would be if there was a commercial or it was between innings because that’s a classic (matchup).”

Baker said the reason there aren’t more classic matchups is there were fewer teams back in the day, and four-man rotations made it likelier that two No. 1s might go head-to-head.

While that’s true, there’s also a lack of star power when it comes to starting pitchers. There are many well-paid starters but few must-see pitchers like Verlander, Max Scherzer and Clayton Kershaw.

Cease may be on his way — as evidenced by his record streak of 14 consecutive starts allowing one or no earned runs — but he’ll have to prove himself for a few more years to reach that status.

Can he imagine himself pitching at Verlander’s age?

“I haven’t even thought about it,” he said. “It’s hard to fathom, but I guess he and Scherzer are showing that if you take care of yourself, there’s no reason why your (velocity) or anything has to dip. Guys like that are making it easier to picture for sure.”

Cease revealed himself Monday to be the Sox’s poet laureate. He unveiled a poem he wrote about his slider called “O Slider Slide” and had the team distribute T-shirts with the verses on the back. A sampling:

“O slider slide o’ slider slide.

“In the strike zone indeed a win is implied.”

Well, Dylan Thomas had to start somewhere, and he probably couldn’t even throw a slider. You have to give Cease credit for putting himself out there.

Matchup aside, this is a huge series for the Sox, who were taken apart by these same Astros in October in the AL Division Series and have yet to recover.

Baker pointed to the Sox injuries, saying, “It’s not the uniform, it’s the person in the uniform.”

“If I’m playing my first team against your second team, over the long run I’m going to win most of the time and you’re going to lose most of the time,” he said.

The Sox greeted the Astros by playing “Bang the Drum All Day” during the introduction of the Houston lineup, a shot at their sign-stealing past. The Astros responded by hitting Sox starter Johnny Cueto hard in a two-run first inning, aided by a Josh Harrison error.

Cueto settled down and didn’t give up another run through the eighth, allowing the Sox to rally with four runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Maybe the scoreboard guys should’ve played “Golden Slumbers” for the Sox, who have been asleep at the wheel much of the season. The Astros, meanwhile, haven’t had any problems getting up for games, even with a sizable lead in the AL West.

“We expect guys to be their best version of themselves, and we all hold each other accountable,” Verlander said.

Baker said not to count the Sox out.

“They’re in a good division to be where they are,” he said. “I remember when Tony La Russa won 83 games and won the World Series (with the 2006 St. Louis Cardinals).”

So does La Russa.

“I know he does,” Baker said. “You just want to get in the dance. Our job is to stop them from getting in the dance.”

Florida Judge To Hold Hearing Tuesday On Request To Unseal Mar-A-Lago Affidavit - Tampa Bay Now

PALM BEACH, Fla. (CW44 News At 10 | CNN) – The federal magistrate judge who approved the Mar-a-Lago search warrant will hold a hearing Thursday in Florida court to discuss requests to unseale the affidavit of cause probable investigators, who the Department of Justice opposed his release.

A federal judge on Friday unsealed the search warrant and property receipt from the FBI’s search of former President Donald Trump’s resort in Palm Beach, Florida, a decision backed by the Justice Department, but On Monday, the DOJ said it opposed the release of the affidavit specifically in an effort to protect witnesses and keep grand jury proceedings confidential.

“Disclosure of the government affidavit at this stage would also likely impede future cooperation of witnesses whose assistance may be sought as this investigation progresses, as well as in other high-profile investigations,” wrote the Department of Justice. “The fact that this investigation involves highly classified documents further underscores the need to protect the integrity of the investigation and exacerbates the potential harm if information is released to the public prematurely or inappropriately.”

Media organizations, including CNN, had demanded that the affidavit be unsealed after the search last week at Trump’s Palm Beach, Fla., club and residence.

Thursday’s hearing announcement came hours before two people briefed on the matter told CNN that the FBI interviewed former White House attorney Pat Cipollone and his former deputy Patrick Philbin earlier this year. as part of the investigation into federal records brought to Trump’s home in Palm Beach. .

The two are the most senior Trump officials questioned in what is now a criminal investigation into possible mishandling of classified information and obstruction. The couple are among a group of former Trump aides the FBI interviewed after the criminal investigation began this spring, those briefed on the matter said.

The DOJ gave details in the affidavit that lay out the argument investigators made to Federal Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart explaining probable cause that he had to search Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate last week. The search, documents say, was an evidence-gathering step in a national security investigation into presidential records at Mar-a-Lago. Trump owns the sprawling estate, and it is his primary residence as well as a members-only club and resort.

The FBI recovered 11 sets of classified documents during its search, including some documents marked as “top secret/SCI” – one of the highest classification levels, according to search warrant documents released on Friday .

The FBI returned three passports to Trump’s lawyers after they were inadvertently seized during the search last week. The FBI said Monday night in response to questions about passports that it follows established procedures authorized by the courts and returns items not needed for law enforcement purposes.

The statement came after comments from Trump on his social media platform that the FBI had “stolen” three of his passports during the search of his Mar-a-Lago property.

Trump’s social media post came hours after the Justice Department informed its attorneys that an FBI team had seized the passports and they were being returned, according to an email posted to social media. by a Trump spokesperson.

“In executing search warrants, the FBI follows court-ordered search and seizure procedures and then releases items that do not need to be retained for law enforcement purposes” , the FBI said in a statement.

During an appearance on Fox Monday night, Trump’s attorney, Lindsey Halligan, just said investigators have already returned the passports. “They gave them to his lawyers today, so he’ll have them soon,” Halligan told Fox’s Sean Hannity.

The DOJ screening team – which works to sort confidential attorney-client communications and other highly personal information from evidence during an investigation – had collected two expired passports and Trump’s active diplomatic passport during research, according to an email from Trump spokesman Jay Budowich. public on Monday evening. Trump’s legal team had received this email from the lead prosecutor in the investigation.

The communication makes it clear that the seizure of the passport was a standard part of the search which was resolved quickly, and not a punitive action taken by the Department of Justice.

In this neighborhood, rival Up the Hill and Down the Hill gangs have engaged in an ongoing violent war exasperated in May by the robbery of 23-year-old nail salon owner Nikki Huang.

Huang complained to her friends in the Up the Hill gang about being whipped with a gun and being robbed of her expensive Louis Vuitton bag.

In retaliation, the buddies allegedly murdered 21-year-old Brandon Atkinson, whose brother is believed to be a superior in the Down the Hill gang. Another shooting erupted about an hour later, injuring a 22-year-old Down the Hill member and a 19-year-old bystander.

Dodge Plans To Retire Challenger As Parent Company Stellantis Eyes Electrified Future

LOS ANGELES– For more than a dozen years, the Challenger has been Dodge’s modern muscle car, delivering old-school power and retro-inspired looks.

But the Challenger is heading into retirement, as the brand embarks on an electrified future.

They promise an electric muscle car to replace it as part of an overall corporate plan; join other major automakers in this promise.

Dodge is one of many brands inherited in the United States from the former Chrysler Corporation, now under the umbrella of Stellantis, a global company focused on a greener future.

Dodge, Chrysler, Ram, Jeep, Fiat and Alfa Romeo will begin an electric transition in the coming years.

The global head of Stellantis did not hesitate to do so.

“The customer is always at the heart of Stellantis and our commitment with this investment plan of more than 30 billion (euros) is to offer iconic vehicles that have the performance, the capabilities, the style, the comfort and the electric range that fit perfectly into their daily lives,” said CEO Carlos Tavares.

We’re already seeing it in the popular Jeep brand, with two plug-in hybrid models hitting showrooms now, and an all-electric compact Jeep coming soon.

Alfa Romeo is the company’s most premium car brand in North America, not counting Ferrari. This new small SUV called Tonale will see the light of day next year, offered as a plug-in hybrid.

Future models could be fully battery powered.

On the truck side, Ram has announced that there will be an electric-only pickup in two years, following rivals Detroit Ford and GM.

Chrysler was actually the first of the “heritage” brands to start using electric power, with the Pacifica Hybrid minivan.

It won’t be the last.

Here’s a look at what’s coming from the Chrysler brand in the electric future – it’s a concept car called Airflow. A modern EV, with a name borrowed from Chrysler’s distant past.

Some welcome these changes with open arms, but others are not so sure. If you’re in the latter group and like your old-school rides, well, as the saying goes, better buy one while you can!

Syria Denies Holding Missing American Journalist

Syria has denied holding US journalist Austin Tice, saying on Wednesday it had not abducted “any US citizen from its territories”.

The statement from the Syrian Foreign Ministry comes a week after US President Joe Biden said the United States knew “for certain that he was being held by the Syrian government”.

Biden said in a statement on the 10th anniversary of Tice’s disappearance that the United States had repeatedly requested the Syrian government’s assistance in bringing Tice home, and that he had called on Syria “to put an end to this”.

Tice disappeared in August 2012 at a checkpoint west of the Syrian capital, Damascus. A video released in September of the same year showed a blindfolded Tice being held by gunmen.

Tice’s family continually sought help to secure his return.

His disappearance came in the early years of the Syrian conflict which included US aid to some groups opposed to President Bashar al-Assad’s regime, as well as US military operations against Islamic State militants who seized control of Syria. parts of Syria.

Syria has opposed what it calls US violations of its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the statement from the Syrian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday that any communication with the US side will be based on respect for the non-interference in Syrian affairs.

Some information for this report comes from The Associated Press.
