2012 World Series Champion San Francisco Giants Honored At Oracle Park

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — It was one of the golden eras in Giants baseball history.

The team won three World Series titles between the 2010 and 2014 seasons.

On Saturday, the 2012 championship team was honored in a special ceremony at Oracle Park, a decade later.

“It feels like yesterday. I know it’s been 10 years, but,” Marco Scutaro said.

For many players, this is a long-standing reunion.

A chance to meet again all these years later.

“Reconnecting with this group of guys is so special. It makes me go back and remember beautiful things,” said Angel Pagan.

But it’s also a chance for the team to reconnect with local Giants fans.

The fans they say are the best in the league.

“They’re passionate. They’re extraordinarily passionate. And every fan, even every Giants fan is unique and different in themselves,” Hunter Pence said.

And this passion was certainly in the spotlight on Saturday.

“I love it. I’m like a little kid in my head,” fan Malcolm Catchatoorian said.

Many fans told ABC7 News they were thrilled to have the opportunity to not only cheer on the current team in this weekend’s game, but also to welcome former players home.

“I’m very excited. I’m very excited to see this guy. I’m very excited to see Marco Scutaro, Barry Zito and all the other players,” said fan Amar Bornkamp.

“I really miss the game. But then when I’m on the pitch and hearing the fans, it’s like ahhh I kinda miss it now,” Barry Zito said.

Because to fans, the Giants are more than just a baseball team.

They are proud of the city they love.

“I think it’s absolutely priceless. In my lifetime to see my team win three times is just amazing,” said fan Meredith Rennie.

US lawmakers call for closer review of Trump Resort search, documents found by FBI agents

Us Lawmakers Call For Closer Review Of Trump Resort Search, Documents Found By Fbi Agents

Top U.S. lawmakers on Sunday called for closer scrutiny of the justification for last week’s court-authorized search of former President Donald Trump’s Florida resort and whether it harmed U.S. national security by taking highly classified documents with him when he left the White House early. 2021.

“We have a number of concerns,” Congressman Mike Turner, the House Intelligence Committee’s senior Republican, told CNN’s “State of the Union” program. “The first is whether or not the raid was justified,” which Attorney General Merrick Garland said he personally authorized before a US magistrate approved it.

“We have this list from the FBI [of what it discovered at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home]”, said Turner, “but we have no conclusive [evidence] to find out if it is really classified material and whether or not it reaches the level of highly classified material.

After last Monday’s search, FBI agents took away 20 boxes of material which they said included 11 files of classified documents, some of which were labeled with the highest US security classification – “Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information”. which should only be viewed in highly secure government – controlled locations.

Trump’s winter house was no such place, although the former US leader claims he declassified the material before leaving office, as he would have been entitled to do. But US officials have since said there was no record of documents showing he had declassified the documents found by FBI agents.

In January, Trump, about a year after leaving office, turned over 15 boxes of documents to the National Archives, including classified documents, as required by US law when presidents leave office and become private citizens again.

An aerial view shows former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, Aug. 10, 2022, in Palm Beach, Florida.

He handed over more documents in June after the government obtained a subpoena for the material. But prosecutors later suspected there was even more classified material at Mar-a-Lago, leading to the search last Monday. Seeking court approval for the search, the United States said it was investigating Trump for a possible violation of three US laws, including the Espionage Act.

Turner said that “on a bipartisan basis, Congress is saying, ‘Show us the goods.’ We want to know, first, what the Justice Department and the FBI told the judge they were going to find and what did they find.

“There is nothing in these boxes that members of the intelligence committee … don’t have the ability to see, if it elevates to the level of an immediate threat to national security, which is what it would take to raid the president’s home,” Turner said. said. “Because they had a number of options, including going to court and just asking the court to enforce whatever subpoena they had.”

“Clearly no one is above the law, Donald Trump is not above the law. Attorney General Garland is also not above the law,” he said. “Congress has the power of scrutiny. We’ve seen material like this before. We have seen documents that have been submitted to the courts. It’s not new. »

But Turner called Garland’s authorization of the research “unprecedented in history, and it has a lot of questions to answer.”

Attorney General Merrick Garland speaks at the Justice Department, Aug. 11, 2022, in Washington.

Congressman Adam Schiff, Democratic chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” called Trump’s collection of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago “deeply disturbing.” He called for a “damage assessment” by current US intelligence officials on the classified material Trump had and said he was “confident” it would be provided.

He said that since Trump had twice handed over documents, it appears “to be deliberate that he kept the documents after the government requested them.”

“I haven’t seen any evidence of declassification” by Trump, Schiff said, and said Trump’s claim was “absurd that anything he brings home is automatically declassified.”

Also on CBS, Republican Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick, another member of the House Intelligence Committee, urged fellow lawmakers to “reserve judgment” on the reasons for the unprecedented search of a former president’s home.

But he added that “nobody is arguing that it is right to see classified information outside of secure rooms”.

Fitzpatrick called for the release of the FBI agents’ affidavit regarding their rationale for the search when the search warrant request was made to U.S. Magistrate Bruce Reinhart in Florida. Such affidavits, however, often go undisclosed unless criminal charges are eventually filed and there is no certainty that Trump or anyone else will face charges in this case.

Reinhart endorsed the research. A few days later, Garland called for the release of the search warrant and list of what FBI agents found, and Trump did not object.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told ABC’s ‘This Week’ that President Joe Biden, who defeated Trump in the 2020 election, was not told before the research.

She said the Garland-led Justice Department “is independent. That’s what we believe. We do not intervene. We were not informed. We learned all of this the same way the American people learned it,” through the accounts of the search and subsequently what the FBI agents found.

Desantis Says Teaching Requirements Are 'Too Rigid' As Florida Decides To Let Veterans Without Degrees Teach

  • Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said the teaching requirements were “too rigid” for educators.

  • Florida issues temporary teaching certificates to allow military veterans to teach in schools.

  • The policy drew criticism from educators who said it could impact teaching quality.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis complained that teaching requirements were “too rigid” to require educators to have “certain credentials.”

His comments come after Florida decided to allow military veterans to teach in public schools. The policy drew criticism from educators who said it could impact teaching quality.

“We want you to be able to teach students in Florida,” DeSantis said in a video on Twitter. “For too long, the requirements to be a teacher have been too rigid, with union bosses insisting that all educators get certain credentials that often have little impact on teaching performance.”

The state’s new program asks veterans to teach if they’ve served four years and earned an honorable or medical discharge and if they’ve passed a background check. They must also have completed 60 college credits (half of a four-year degree) and pass a Florida subject exam.

“Our veterans have a wealth of knowledge and experience they can bring to the classroom, and with this innovative approach, they will be able to do so for five years with temporary certification while they work towards graduation” , DeSantis said.

The Florida Education Association forecasts more than 8,000 teaching vacancies for the 2022-2023 school year, according to WPTV. In a recent statement, the agency called on lawmakers to ensure that teachers receive better salaries and that schools have “qualified and experienced teachers”.

“Every morning our students recite the Pledge of Allegiance while gazing at the Stars and Stripes,” DeSantis said. “It’s fitting that the teacher in the classroom is someone who has taken an oath and put their life on the line to preserve, protect and defend our flag and the freedom it represents.”

Fbi Convictions Over Trump Seizure Worry Lawmakers
Placeholder while loading article actions

Several lawmakers on Sunday pushed back against Republican criticism of the court-sanctioned seizure of documents from former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club, with even some GOP members warning that the violent rhetoric was ‘dangerous’ and ‘absurd’ .

Still, many Republicans continued to defend the former president, casting doubts on whether the FBI’s raid on Trump’s Florida home earlier this week was justified — and whether the documents seized were in fact top secret.

Some party members have accused the FBI of being politically motivated, and conservative media outlet Breitbart published a leaked version of the warrant on Friday that included the names of FBI agents who took part in the raid.

According to the document obtained by The Washington Post. The threats were posted on social media sites, web forums, video-sharing platforms and other chat rooms. The threats include general calls for “civil war” and “armed rebellion”, the bulletin said.

On Sunday, a few Republicans reminded their colleagues that the GOP has long cast itself as the party of law enforcement.

How an archive dispute led the FBI to seek Mar-a-Lago

‘We have to step aside to pass judgment on them,’ Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson (right) said on CNN’s ‘State of the Union’. “If you want to hold people accountable, it’s the Department of Justice. It was the Attorney General who said he was overseeing this. The FBI is simply fulfilling its responsibilities under the law.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (right) called Republican attacks on the FBI ‘absurd’, noting that his father, an uncle and two cousins worked as FBI agents.

“It’s dangerous because we’ve already seen the one incident,” Hogan said, referring to the gunman who was killed last week after trying to attack an FBI field office in Cincinnati.

“There are threats everywhere and losing faith in our federal law enforcement officers, in our justice system, is a really serious problem for the country,” Hogan said on ABC News’ This Week.

Democrats rushed Republican attacks on the FBI, seizing the opportunity to appeal to moderates who might be offended by the GOP’s sudden anger at law enforcement officials.

“I used to think the Republican Party supported law enforcement,” Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) said on NBC News’ “Meet the Press.” “And I hope some of them do today because this kind of talk is very dangerous for our country.”

Court documents unsealed last week included an inventory of seized documents, outlining four sets of top secret documents and seven other sets of classified information. One set of documents was listed as “Miscellaneous TS/SCI Classified Documents”, a refers to top secret/sensitive compartmentalized information, a highly classified category of government secrets.

The Washington Post also reported that FBI agents were looking for classified documents on nuclear weapons, among other things.

Trump claimed he declassified all records he brought to Mar-a-Lago before he left office, but he offered no supporting evidence.

In CBS News’ “Face the Nation,” Rep. Adam B. Schiff (D-California), chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, dismissed comments from some Republicans that Trump may have kept documents at Mar -a-Lago which he had declassified during his presidency. Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (DN.Y.) and Schiff on Saturday asked Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines whether the documents posed a threat to national security.

“We need to determine … if there were any efforts during the presidency to go through the declassification process,” Schiff said. “I haven’t seen any evidence of that.”

Although the FBI raid drew national attention to the legal threats Trump faces and his well-documented habit of ignoring safeguards over top-secret information, Hogan said the raid was a political victory for Trump. ‘former president.

The episode “seemed to motivate his base and people rushing to his defense and feeling like he was being harassed and martyred,” said Hogan, who has frequently criticized the former president and did not vote for him. in 2020.

“But I don’t think we’ve seen the end of the story yet,” added Hogan, who plans to run for president in 2024.

Rep. Michael R. Turner (Ohio), the ranking Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, said Attorney General Merrick Garland “has a lot of questions to answer.” Along with calling on the Justice Department to release more information about the recovered documents, Turner speculated that the information in the files might be outdated and not technically classified.

“These are materials that are two years old. We don’t know what they are. We don’t know if they reach the national security threat level,” he said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Another Republican, Sen. Mike Rounds (RS.D.), urged the Justice Department to release the affidavit in support of the search warrant, a document outlining why federal prosecutors believed he was necessary to excavate Mar-a-Lago. He joined other members of his party in suggesting that Trump’s actions might have been legal, saying the former president might have had the power to declassify documents recovered by the FBI.

“I think it’s very important, long-term, for the Department of Justice, now that they’ve done this, to show that this wasn’t just a fishing expedition,” said Rounds, the top Republican on the Senate Armed Services Cybersecurity Subcommittee. on NBC News’ “Meet the Press.”

Zach Wilson to have knee surgery Tuesday in LA

Zach Wilson To Have Knee Surgery Tuesday In La

Zach Wilson traveled to Los Angeles and will undergo surgery on his knee Tuesday, according to Jets coach Robert Saleh, who is withholding declarations of a quick recovery.

“They’ll know more when they get in there,” Saleh said. “We’re optimistic but we’re not out of the woods until they get in there and make the decision.”

The optimistic recovery timeline is 2-to-4 weeks after Wilson tore his meniscus in Friday’s preseason opener against the Eagles, the result of a hard cut on his right leg during a scramble.

Although the Jets avoided a worse-case scenario of an ACL tear, the fact that their franchise quarterback is going under the knife is discouraging. Wilson also missed games last season because of a right knee injury.

Regardless of Wilson’s status for the regular season opener against the Ravens on Sept. 11, the 23-year-old is sure to miss the remainder of training camp and preseason, including against the Giants on Aug. 28.

“It’s a setback in that he’s missing an unbelievable opportunity to get these reps in, to play against other defenses, especially the Giants who have such an elaborate pressure package system,” Saleh said. “But he’s got to stay dialed in just like last year when he was hurt, learn from his teammates and try to be involved mentally as much as he can be. The timing of it overall is terrible and it sucks but I think Zach has an opportunity to grow from it if he attacks it mentally.”

The likely scenario is Joe Flacco starting Week 1 against the Ravens, coincidentally the one he led to a Super Bowl victory in 2013.

“Obviously people are going to bring it up to me (playing your former team). And you think about that,” Flacco said. “Usually the emotions are definitely crazy. Guys try to act like they’re cool. I’ve thought about it a little bit. I’m going to make sure it’s not the biggest deal in the world, but I’ve seen guys go through it.”

BROWN TAKES FANT’S SPOT

Newly signed Duane Brown is the projected starter at left tackle, Saleh confirmed, meaning George Fant will move to the right side.

The development is probably a downer for Fant, who played well at left tackle last season and is entering the final year of his contract. Traditionally, left tackles are paid more.

“I just want to be taken care of,” Fant said during training camp.

Fant was announced as the starting left tackle before the season-ending injury to Mekhi Becton, who is in L.A. for a doctor consultation before undergoing surgery to repair a fractured kneecap.

Becton’s injury hastened the signing of Brown, a 36-year-old Pro Bowler who now forces Fant’s move to the other side of the O-line. Saleh said he had a “very good and productive conversation” with Fant and tried to sell it to the media as a product of the 30-year-old’s versatility.

“His curse is also a blessing in that he’s extremely versatile and very athletic,” Saleh said.

The offensive line has been in flux since Saleh took over, largely because of Becton’s availability, or lack thereof.

“We just want those five goes out there together,” Saleh said. “We have not had continuity at all in that group through OTAs. We just want five guys to play together and build some continuity.”

LAWSON RETURN PUSHED BACK

Friday’s preseason opener was supposed to be the return of defensive end Carl Lawson, who missed all of last season with an Achilles tear.

Instead, Saleh made a last-minute decision to keep Lawson off the active list.

“He was pissed,” Saleh said.

The coach said he wanted to take it slower with Lawson’s recovery, making sure he first cleared the mental hurdle of being ready for his first game since the Achilles surgery.

Saleh basically guaranteed Lawson would play the next preseason contest – Aug. 22 against the Falcons.

“He’ll play for sure for sure,” Saleh said. “For sure for sure.”
