Ola Jordan should be proud of her “mother body,” and the shame she feels is all social media’s fault

Ola Jordan Should Be Proud Of Her “Mother Body,” And The Shame She Feels Is All Social Media’s Fault

WHEN Ola Jordan said she was “appalled and so disappointed” in herself, I thought the Strictly star must have done something really terrible.

After all, she’s pretty much the only dancer who hasn’t been hit by the infamous Strictly Curse.

Ola Jordan posted this snap of her and husband James saying she was “appalled” at her bodyPhoto credit: Instagram

But no, this wasn’t a dirty affair or a devastating scandal.

The new mom actually complained about her appearance in a bikini photo.

The 39-year-old posted a photo of herself in a pink bikini to Instagram and said she hopes sharing her “mother body” with the world would “motivate” her to do something about it.

I don’t want to seem insensitive here, but honestly, what’s the problem?

In my eyes she looks great. And I’m so sad that Ola – and new moms in general – feel so much pressure to look perfect.

It breaks my heart that Ola is ashamed of her body.

She has a two-year-old daughter, for goodness sake.

After I had my kids, I was HUGE. In all honesty, I still haven’t shifted the baby weight. . . 26 years later.

But I don’t remember feeling any pressure to look anything other than what I looked like.

Finally, my body had created a whole new person. Also, I had an ongoing addiction to Wagon Wheels.

I’m pretty sure all of this “shame” and pressure women feel is a direct result of social media.

And Ola agrees, saying, “Especially on Instagram, you see perfect bodies, perfect lives and perfect outfits all the time.

“You feel like you’ve failed in life if you let yourself go a little bit. . . but I don’t have time to train.”

It is damaging that there is so much pressure to “bounce back” into our pre-baby forms.

Women are under ridiculous pressure to meet unrealistic expectations. But the truth is that we are beautiful just the way we are.

And more importantly, Ola’s beautiful little girl is worth every new little lump and bump.

After the birth of her children, Ola looks just like 99.9 percent of new mothers.

Today I know that I was lucky. When I had my babies, the lowest priority on my list was going to the gym or starving myself to get my weight back.

I was given the space and freedom to enjoy my changing body and take time to recover from childbirth.

No doubt people will tell Ola that she’s brave to post this picture. But it shouldn’t be an act of bravery to show off your normal and inevitably imperfect body.

Looking at these photos made me realize that we women need to take a break.

Ola seems healthy and happy. Surely that’s all that matters?

It’s refreshing to be natural without the filters. But the true measure of success is how happy you are, not how skinny.

The older you get, the more you value being happy and healthy, rather than achieving a level of beauty that is both unrealistic and bloody hard work.

Nobody on their deathbed thinks about the time they worked out at the gym or the moment they turned down a cookie or a glass of wine.

You will remember the people you spent time with, the places you went, the food you ate and the wine you drank.

It’s such a shame that so many women spend their short lives feeling bad about something as trivial as our looks.

Bodies are always changing, especially after children. This is largely out of your control.

The only thing you can work on is how you feel.

crime on the rise

It is really worrying that police forces in England and Wales have recorded the highest number of crimes in 20 years.

In the year to March 2022, 6.3 million crimes were registered – four percent more than the previous all-time high of 6.1 million in 2019/20.

There are many things for the new prime minister to put on his to-do list.

This must be at the top.

A new low for Sickos

Sick Sex Offenders Tried To Take Advantage Of The Refugee Crisis

It is so sad and worrying to think of all the children displaced by the war in Ukraine.

Those who travel unaccompanied and are extremely vulnerable.

And it defies belief that ten British sex offenders were prosecuted in the early weeks of the war as they headed into refugee-laden Poland, seemingly to take advantage of the chaos unfolding on the border with Ukraine.

Fortunately, the National Crime Agency announced this week that all ten have been interrogated by Polish authorities and expelled from the country.

The thought of going to Poland under cover to help the two thirds of children displaced by this terrible war while plotting to exploit their vulnerability is really sick.

But I think the good news is that these people have been stopped.

By the grace of gob

Obviously we ate our food wrong the whole time.
Research led by Oxford professor of experimental psychology Charles Spence claims that eating with your mouth open makes a meal tastier.

It helps food flavors reach the back of the nose and enhances our eating experience.

Prof Spence said: “We should always abandon our manners and chew with our mouths open.”

Take this advice at your own risk. As any kid knows, showing a sip of half-chewed slop is guaranteed to outrage most people.

Your chicken tikka masala might taste better when eaten with your gob agape — but your date will likely make a sprint to the curry front door.

No normal vacation

WHEN your kids are teenagers, they’ll feel embarrassed about everything you do.

So God knows what Ben Affleck’s 16-year-old daughter Violet thought about her father snogging his new bride Jo-Lo during a dinner in Paris on Thursday.

But I think it’s quite nice that they decided to take some of their children with them on their honeymoon in Paris.

I wish them both the very best.

JK is not a trans hater

JUST in case anyone was wondering if the world could get a whole lot crazier, this week we had the confirmation.

Quidditch, a game invented by JK Rowling in her Harry Potter books, was renamed Quadball to “distance” the sport from the author.

Jk Rowling Just Wants To Stand Up For Women'S Rights

The decision was made by two of its governing bodies – the International Quidditch Association (IQA) and Major League Quidditch (MLQ) – who say the author is “under increasing scrutiny for her anti-trans positions”.

Indeed, it may be true that JK Rowling was “scrutinized for her anti-trans positions.” But that absolutely doesn’t mean she’s anti-trans.

JK was accused of transphobia in 2020 when she responded to an article on Twitter with the caption: “Opinion: Creating a more equitable post-Covid-19 world for people who menstruate.”

Apparently their “anti-trans view” should say this: “I’m sure there used to be a word for these people. someone help me whoops wimpund? woomud?”

I doubt JK Rowling will lose sleep over this latest cancellation.

After all, it’s a fictional game designed to be played on the back of a flying broomstick.

But the sport only exists because she invented it. Nobody would play it without her.

And I wonder if these people who are so keen on turning her down actually realize that more people agree with her than not?

To be clear, I’m not transphobic.

But like JK, I don’t want my rights and needs to be eroded.

Calling a woman a woman – and a man a man (where do people want to get rid of the word man?) and wanting toilets, jails, infirmaries and changing rooms for women only, is not transphobic.

We Gave Our Son A Strong, Masculine Name, But The Family Laughed In Our Faces
My Neighbor Felled A Lot Of My Tree - I'M Absolutely Furious

We don’t want to be called womb carriers, women giving birth, nursing mothers, owners of the cervix.

We just want to be called what we are. Women.

California drought: Governor Newsom to discuss climate change and water use in California during his visit to the Bay Area

California Drought: Governor Newsom To Discuss Climate Change And Water Use In California During His Visit To The Bay Area

ANTIOCH, Calif. — Governor Gavin Newsom will be in the Bay Area on Thursday to discuss water supply measures California is taking to adapt to hotter, drier conditions caused by climate change.

RELATED: Newsom outlines plan for California’s 45-mile underground water tunnel

The governor will also announce new leadership for California’s infrastructure efforts.

The event comes as the state seeks new and creative ways to conserve water.

Last month, the governor released his plan to build a 45-mile tunnel between the Delta and Southern California.

State water officials say a tunnel is badly needed to modernize the state’s water infrastructure in the face of climate change, which scientists say is likely to cause both prolonged droughts and heavy downpours of rain and snow. It would also better protect the state’s water supply from the risk of an earthquake that could collapse levees and flood salt water from the ocean into the system.

Some cities develop their own plans.

Although California is in the third year of a punishing drought, it saw record rainfall last October and another major dumping ground of rain and snow in December, some of which the state was unable to capture.

You can watch Governor Newsom’s press conference in Contra Costa County live starting at 10:30 a.m. in the video player above.

What’s in the Galaxy Z Flip and Fold 4 box? Not a lot

What'S In The Galaxy Z Flip And Fold 4 Box? Not A Lot

New Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Turnaround Z 4 revealed to Samsung’s Unpacked event include many improvements such as bigger batteries, updated processors, better cameras and new software. However, the packaging of the phones does not include much else.

It turns out that buying a $1,000 or $1,800 phone in 2022 means getting little to no extras in the box. Gone are the days of having a pair of wired headphones with your new phone. In the past two years, wall chargers have ceased to be included. And you can forget about getting free cases.

Samsung stopped including wired headphones in the package with the launch of the Galaxy Note 20. Wall chargers started disappearing from Samsung phone boxes with the launch of the Galaxy S21 and S21 Ultra.

The absence of so many extras is one of the ways Samsung is trying to reduce its impact on the environment as well as its own costs. In fact, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4 include components made from repurposed fishing nets, which is a first for Samsung foldables. So that’s pretty cool, right?

What’s in the Galaxy Z Fold 4 box?

Here’s what’s included:

  • A Galaxy Fold 4
  • A USB-C cable
  • A printed installation guide and instructions
  • A SIM card tool

St. Ores said Thursday that she has decided not to run for re-election; filings for the position close at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

St. Ores was elected mayor in November 2010 and ran — and won — five more times after that.

“I absolutely love our hometown community, and it has been a wonderful experience to serve the citizens of Bayport,” St. Ores said in a statement.

During her tenure, she said, Bayport has built strong partnerships with its neighbors and “made important investments in our infrastructure, parks, equipment and staff.”

The mayoral seat and two council seats are up grabs on Nov. 8.

St. Ores said she hopes more residents will get involved in local government “as new and more perspectives result in better representation.”

She also said she hopes that the city’s priorities will continue to be “preserving our strong financial position, strengthening public safety, enhancing the small-town culture, and ensuring transparency and good faith communication in all government decisions, all while holding the line on taxes.”

“Those have been my priorities … and my hope is that future city councils will reflect these same values in their actions,” she said.

Jerry Kill’s game day speaking engagement dunked after criticism

Jerry Kill’s Game Day Speaking Engagement Dunked After Criticism

The idea of Jerry Kill speaking to a Twin Cities group on the morning of the Gophers football team’s season opener has been dunked on.

Shortly after it became known that leaders of Twin Cities Dunkers had invited Kill to be its speaker on Sept. 1 — the day his new team, New Mexico State, plays his old one at Huntington Bank Stadium — the engagement was canceled.

“Some people thought it was maybe inappropriate or causing discomfort, one way or the other. That was never the intent,” said Dave Mona, a member of the Dunkers group that comprises nearly 350 business leaders and regularly invites sports newsmakers for breakfast chats.

Mona, a retired public relations executive, had the idea of inviting the ex-Gophers coach and while former Gophers athletics director Joel Maturi made the call to Kill roughly three weeks ago. His appearance hadn’t yet been made official.

On Monday, KFXN-FM and Gophers sideline reporter Justin Gaard tweeted news of Kill’s invite, putting it in the “only in Minnesota” category. The replies weren’t Minnesota nice.

On Tuesday, Dunkers spiked the plan.

“We decided, let’s pull the plug on it.” Mona said. “(Kill) was fine with it. He wanted to say hello to people that morning and see them again, maybe one last time.”

But, Mona added, “No harm, no foul.”

Before the speech was given the kibosh, former U men’s basketball coach Richard Pitino, now at New Mexico, tweeted: “So you’re saying my dream of being invited back to speak to the Twin Cities Dunkers isn’t dead??”

When first contacted, Kill expressed doubts to the idea of him speaking to Gophers fans. The response was that Kill had “a lot of friends” in Minnesota.

Mona, a former reporter and host on WCCO-AM, said he would have emceed the event and planned to talk about Kill’s return to head coaching at New Mexico State — a challenging place to win as an FBS independent in small Las Cruces — as well as the new challenges in college football, primarily name, image and likeness (NIL) and the NCAA transfer portal.

Mona said he did not plan to ask about Kill’s critical comments of current Gophers coach P.J. Fleck. “I was hoping we could keep it in other things,” he said.

But it was Kill’s comments about Fleck that drove backlash.

Fleck coached under Kill at Northern Illinois in 2008-09. In a radio interview in 2019, Kill said Fleck had “changed a lot” and “I just think sometimes ego gets carried away.” Kill even mentioned Fleck’s first wife in the criticisms.

Kill also said he “took it personal” that Fleck said he had to change the culture of the U program when he was hired in 2017. Kill stepped down due to health reasons midway through the 2015 season and his longtime assistant, Tracy Claeys, was promoted. After the 2016 season, Claeys was fired, in part, due to his response to a group of players being implicated in a sexual assault.

Four of those players were expelled after a university investigation.

After Kill’s comments in 2019, Fleck responded on KTLK-AM: “I’ve got a lot of respect for Jerry Kill; I always will. … I’m not sure where that came from.”

Fleck spoke for a sixth time at Dunkers in June. Other recent speakers include Twins front-office leaders Derek Falvey and Thad Levine in April, and Vikings general manager Kwesi Adolfo-Mensah and head coach Kevin O’Connell in May. MLS Commissioner Don Garber met with Dunkers ahead of the MLS All-Star Game in St. Paul on Wednesday.

The Gophers are a whopping 37.5-point betting favorite against New Mexico State. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Sept. 1.
