MYSTERY continues to grow over two weeks after a young woman is found beaten to death in her Florida apartment while her family pleads for answers.
Kayla Hodgson, a 23-year-old bartender, was found dead July 13 in Tamarac, Broward County, but no arrest has been made in the case.
Kayla’s devastated family searches for answers.
Speaking to WPLG-TV on Friday, a family friend, identified only as Brianna, said: “She was bright. She was beautiful. She was everyone’s hype man.
“Her life was over far too soon.”
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office said it would investigate the murder.
Yesterday the sheriff’s office confirmed they would not make an arrest yet.
“The unknown drives us crazy,” said Brianna.
“We don’t know who did it. We don’t know why you did that.”
She added, “We pray for justice.”
Kayla’s loved ones have started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money to help pay for funeral expenses after the young woman “passed away unexpectedly because someone took her life from us”.
On the campaign site, friends and family describe the victim as “an amazing daughter, beloved and adored big sister, niece, granddaughter and cousin whose bond was like no other.”
“Everyone loved her very much and she was a friend to everyone.”
Kayla “wowed with her compassion, humility and loyalty,” the family wrote.
The investigation into Kayla’s death continues.
Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact Detective Ian Kuechler at 954-321-4200 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
Anonymous reports can also be submitted to browardcrimestoppers.org.
A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
