ARSENAL have been dealt a transfer blow as Lyon ace Lucas Paqueta is reportedly not interested in moving to the Emirates.
The Gunners have kept an eye on 24-year-old Paqueta during the summer transfer window as manager Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his midfield.
Corresponding L’EquipeHowever, the midfielder, who wants to leave the Groupama, is not interested in joining Arsenal or Newcastle, who have also been linked.
Instead, the Brazil international seems to prefer a move to Manchester City or Tottenham, who have shown interest.
City and Spurs are seen as the most likely candidates to sign the 24-year-old, with the former taking the lead.
The reigning Premier League champions are furthest along in discussions but a move will depend on Bernardo Silva’s situation.
Silva is keen to get out of the Etihad and his agent Jorge Mendes is looking for a deal with either Barcelona or Real Madrid.
Tottenham turned down a €40m (£33.4m) offer in January and will need to make room in midfield too if they are to sign Paqueta.
The Brazilian turned down Lyon’s efforts to extend his contract, which expires in 2025, after a disappointing season that saw the club miss out on European qualifiers.
The Ligue 1 side hoped to bring the ex-AC Milan ace’s salary up to the highest earners’ level.

But president Jean-Michel Aulas is now reportedly “dreaming” of beating the club’s record sale, which currently stands at €60m (£50.2m) that Tottenham paid for Tanguy Ndombele in 2019.
Paqueta joined Lyon from Milan in 2020 and since then has recorded 20 goals and 13 assists in 76 games.
