ASK IRA: Should Heat wait for NBA trade inflation to abate?

Ask Ira: Should Heat Wait For Nba Trade Inflation To Abate?

Q: Ira, the Kevin Durant saga is over the top. He’s 34, past his prime, and exactly how many championships has he won without Stephen Curry/ Klay Thompson/Draymond Green? Zero. How many NBA Finals has he made without Russell Westbrook/James Harden/Serge Ibaka? Zero again. Giving away a young All-Star and multiple first round picks for a player that is past his prime and never really made those around him better is way too high a price. – Phil, Boca Raton.

A: First, let’s not do this. Let’s not, amid the risk of coming up short, devalue the prize. Kevin Durant is among the very best players in today’s game, among the best of all time. So, yes, you pursue and you pursue hard. But if you don’t land him, you also don’t walk away saying the chase wasn’t worth it. Put it this way: If you heard Kevin Durant was available and your team didn’t make its best offer, how would you feel about your team? But that also doesn’t mean your team didn’t/doesn’t have enough to compete without such a blockbuster.

Q: I can see Ben Simmons averaging double digit assists and providing elite defense in a Erik Spoelstra position-less system. – David, Venice.

A: This has been raised as a talking point because for the Nets to take in Bam Adebayo in any possible trade for Kevin Durant, Ben Simmons would have to be dealt by the Heat. And, yes, Erik Spoelstra’s position-less defensive system would seem tailor made for Ben. But so many questions remain with Ben, including actually getting on, and staying on, the court. Plus a Simmons-Jimmy Butler reunion could be a hoot.

Q: For me, Bam Adebayo is only untouchable on this roster, due to the fact the Heat would have no defenders at the four and five – Alt.

A: First, if you get a Kevin Durant, you have a defender at power forward. And it’s not as if Bam Adebayo was shutting down the game’s biggest centers. As with Bam, if he were to be moved in a deal, then Erik Spoelstra would adjust a system to his new personnel. That’s what the best coaches do. You can be wed to a player; you can’t be wed purely to a system. Bam is unique, thus the unique defensive approach these past few seasons.

The best sci-fi shows on HBO Max

The Best Sci-Fi Shows On Hbo Max

AfterLike other streamers, HBO Max features an eclectic lineup of sci-fi series, including originals, older titles, and great international offerings. What sets HBO Originals apart is a stamp of quality marked “prestige TV.” station eleven is the typical example of a prestigious salon. With long episodes, high production values, and an excellent Metacritic score (81), the unconventional post-apocalyptic series is the epitome and pinnacle of HBO Max’s sci-fi offerings.

Unfortunately, you might notice a few titles disappearing from HBO Max, including Snowpiercer. Additionally, Made For Love was canceled after season 2. This all follows the merger of Warner Bros. and Discovery. Here is After on what that means.

For more excellent and noteworthy sci-fi series on HBO Max, scroll down.

His Dark Matters (2019-2022)

His Dark Materials the TV show is the second attempt to bring Philip Pullman’s classic fantasy novels to the screen (the 2007 flop The Golden Compass, starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig, was grounded in a slow, shallow script). Set in a world where people’s souls manifest as pets, the source material isn’t exactly straightforward. Launch into parallel universes, talking polar bears, and a wildly imaginative story about growing up, and you’re on an exciting philosophical adventure. Ruth Wilson, James McAvoy and Dafne Keen bolster the TV show’s smoother, more mature attempt.

Despite being 90% a superhero show, Peacemaker features visitors from another planet, so it lands on this list. The Suicide Squad spin-off series centers on the titular peace, an outrageous John Cena who explores where his catchphrase – “I cherish peace with all my heart. I don’t care how many men, women and children that I kill to get it” — comes from. Swearing, gory, and bouncing to a rock soundtrack, the James Gunn-penned series is a lively time with a surprising heart.

The Leftovers (2014-2017)

Maybe it’s considered more supernatural than science fiction, and it’s certainly far from hard science fiction, but come on. It’s Leftovers. It’s Damon Lindelof, the genius who turned Watchmen into an acclaimed TV show. The Leftovers follows what happens after the inexplicable disappearance of 2% of the world’s population. Amid the emergence of a number of cults, all three seasons focus on two families, the Garveys and the Murphys, and how the “Sudden Departure” event turns their lives upside down.

The Time Traveler’s Wife (2022)

It may have been canceled after one season, but it was one hell of a (weird) season. The Time Traveler’s Wife revolves around an absurd concept: a man (Theo James) spontaneously jumps back and forth in time – without taking his clothes with him. In other words, he finds himself naked in front of oncoming trains, in the middle of the street and in forests where he meets his future wife (Rose Leslie). Based on Audrey Niffenegger’s popular novel, which spawned a 2009 movie, The Time Traveler’s Wife will satisfy fans of the book and entertain those able to look past the slight ick factor. Doctor Who fans note that Steven Moffat writes the series, bringing his wit and time-traveling complexity.

At this point, new fans might be hard to find when it comes to this long-running British show. But if you’re interested in diving into wildly inventive, genre-bending, barnstorming adventure, try Jodie Whittaker’s latest episodes. Whittaker takes the place of the Doctor, an alien adventurer who travels through time and space with a kind heart and an offbeat sense of humor. Serious fun.

Five seasons of this sci-fi procedural await you. Immerse yourself in parallel universes and alternate timelines with the Fringe Division, a team of agents tasked with investigating unexplained phenomena. After a lackluster first season, Fringe found its way, delivering inventive ideas and a stirring emotional core.

Alice in Wonderland meets a lot of robots. The truly mind-bending sci-fi western might be spinning in complex circles by Season 3, but its exhilarating first season kicked down the barn door. Set in a violent and sinister amusement park, where wealthy guests can shoot, kill and rape the android hosts in various ways, the focus is on Dolores, a host who begins to become sentient. No, she’s not happy with the way she was treated. Addictive and challenging, Westworld asks you to figure out the pieces of its puzzle. Plus, many are saying Season 4 is a comeback.

Person of Interest (2011-2016)

This sci-fi crime drama, created by Jonathan Nolan, has earned a place among the best sci-fi TV shows of all time. The series centers around some of the Precog-esque technology used by the government to predict terrorist attacks. However, the machine can also warn of smaller, but still deadly crimes, and a splinter team of undercover investigators set out to help related persons of interest. Dealing with delicate issues such as the concept of “the greater good”, Person of Interest is a fascinating, spectacular and comprehensive espionage procedure.

What would you do if your husband installed a chip in your brain to monitor your every move? Hazel Green (Cristin Milotti) faces this dilemma and quickly goes on the run with the not entirely helpful help of her father (Ray Romano). Traverse tricky territory in this satirical relationship drama with a Black Mirror side and a helpful Dolphin. Yes, Made for Love is as full of surprises as it is ultimately disturbing.

Warner Bros Television.

An influential legacy show, Babylon 5 may have dated edges to the present day, but it would be blasphemy to ignore it on this list. The basic premise sees a group of humans and alien species working together on the Babylon 5 space station as Earth carves out a place for itself in the galactic community. Political intrigue, character studies, and the threat of war ensue.

TNT/YouTube/CNET screenshot

Falling Skies (2011-2015)

Starring executive producer Steven Spielberg, this post-apocalyptic sci-fi brings family drama to alien invasions. Falling Skies centers on a group of survivors who plan to defend themselves after a global invasion by aliens. Five seasons introduce multiple alien races, space travel, and a satisfying final showdown.

If you were blown away by Russell T Davies’ It’s a Sin, Years and Years is a must. The ambitious sci-fi series spans 15 years, skipping forward each episode to capture the ups and downs of the eclectic Lyons family. From technological developments to jaw-dropping life upheavals, Lyonnais navigate the ringtone without ever giving up a heartwarming sense of humor.

Believe everything you hear about Station Eleven. One of the best shows of 2021, the dystopian meditative thriller (that last descriptor can only apply to certain episodes) is prestige television that takes you on a journey to surprising, moving, and unique destinations. After two timelines, the main focus is on the brilliant heroine Kirsten (Mackenzie Davis), a woman who survived a world-destroying pandemic and now roams the remains with a theater troupe known as the Traveling Symphony. Created by Patrick Somerville, whose writing work on The Leftovers can be felt here, Station Eleven takes an optimistic look at the end of the world.

Photograph by Coco Van Oppens

Raised by Wolves (2020-22)

Raised by Wolves will satisfy those who want to spend a plot of time (nearly 10 hours, not counting the second season) in a world brought to the screen with the help of Ridley Scott. Two androids, Mother and Father, attempt to establish an atheist human colony on a new planet, after a war with a religious order destroys Earth. But they soon discover that controlling the beliefs of humans is a tricky business. Directing the first two episodes, in addition to pulling the strings as executive producer, Scott sets up a provocative exploration of AI and religious beliefs. There’s blood, great performance and a powerful lead in Amanda Collin’s mother. (Unfortunately, despite a stellar second season, the series was canceled.)

Relatives clash with police over Arizona school lockdown

Relatives Clash With Police Over Arizona School Lockdown

A man who appears to be armed approaches a school campus. The police arrive. With the school closed, terrified family members seek to get inside to reach the children.

Like the opening moments of what unfolded in March in Uvalde, Texas, this footage during a scare in Arizona on Friday led to heated exchanges between parents and relatives of schoolchildren and authorities. But the confrontation then took a different turn. Ultimately, three people were arrested, two of whom were shocked with stun guns, after attempting to enter the grounds of Thompson Ranch Elementary School in the town of El Mirage, police said.

The man who caused the lockdown has been taken into custody and no children or teachers were injured. But in Uvalde’s wake, the clash involving parents represents a disturbing view of the rage and mistrust that can make a school crisis even more chaotic.

Arizona authorities said officers arrived at the scene shortly after someone reported a man who appeared to have a handgun and was trying to gain access to the school. The man then fled in an unknown direction. Officers sought to ensure there was no longer a threat on the ground, during which time they discovered a suspicious package which police say was “eventually examined by explosives technicians and made safe”.

But as worried parents and relatives began to arrive, one person who was barred from entering the school got into a run-in with officers, police said. Two other people joined, prompting the officers to fire their stun guns and arrest the three of them. One of them was injured and taken to hospital, authorities said.

The identity of the containment suspect was not revealed on Sunday. He was being assessed by mental health professionals and criminal charges were pending, police said. The names of those arrested in the altercation were not available on Sunday.

Video of the confrontation posted on social media shows parents and relatives shouting and jostling with officers. At one point, a clicking noise can be heard, and seconds later the video shows a handgun on the ground near one of the parents. The crowd disperses as police fire stun guns and begin making arrests. A trail of blood can be seen on the sidewalk near a handcuffed man, moaning in pain.

In an account given to KPNX-TV in Arizona, Darlene Gonzales, whose daughter was inside the school, said that after telling parents the threat of lockdown was over, she and her son sought to enter the school but were told to go to the library. At that point, she says, the situation escalated and she was thrown to the ground. She added that the weapon seen in the video belonged to her son.

El Mirage Police Department Chief Paul Marzocca said those involved in the altercation broke the law and were responsible for what happened.

“You can’t create this chaos in a school in an emergency situation and walk away,” he said.

Many people responded to Chief Marzocca’s statement expressing their support for the police response. “Parents need to control themselves when officers are trying to work,” Lori Jones, who said she lives about 30 minutes from El Mirage, said in a comment on the police department’s Facebook page. “Set an example for your children!!”

But some residents sympathized with the frustration parents might have felt. One commentator said the backlash was “a direct by-product” of what happened at Uvalde.

Ron Avi Astor, a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles who studies school violence, said such clashes between parents and officials were a symptom of deteriorating trust in law enforcement. order to handle situations like El Mirage.

“You can see that these parents don’t trust the police because of everything they’ve seen or heard,” he said. And unless that perception changes, he said, it’s likely that more loved ones and bystanders will continue to try to take matters into their own hands.

But the wide media coverage of situations in which the police response to a shooting is heavily criticised, such as in Uvalde, creates a narrative that is not necessarily representative of how the police tend to handle these situations, explained Dr. Astor, adding that the police must help change this narrative.

“They have to be honest, they have to be trustworthy and they have to have the right approach,” he said of the police. “I think that’s how you build trust.”

Watch – “I Just Swallowed A Bee”: Doug Ford, Premier Of Ontario

Ontario Premier Doug Ford was buzzing with laughter after accidentally swallowing a bee during a news conference on Friday.

Ford was in Dundalk, Ont., answering a reporter’s health care question when the insect, which had been buzzing around his mouth for a few moments, suddenly flew straight into his mouth.

“My God, I just swallowed a bee,” Ford said after a coughing fit.

The prime minister drank some water, then joked, “I’m fine. It’s here buzzing right now.

“It’s going to be replayed over and over again,” Ford said with a smile as reporters could be heard laughing in the background.

Ford then noted that the bee was “stuck” in his throat.

After taking a few moments to collect himself in apparent unease, Ford said with a laugh that the bee came down “straight through the hatch”.

In light of the health care press conference topic, Ford cracked another joke with a smile, saying, “I’m going to rush to the hospital to get this bee out of here.”

Ford was elected premier in 2018 on an “anti-elite” platform after defeating the far-left provincial Liberal government, Breitbart News reported at the time. However, Ford’s government has come under fire during the pandemic after enacting some of the toughest coronavirus restrictions among Canadian provinces.

In June, Ford’s Progressive Conservative Party won another majority in re-election, securing itself as premier for at least the next four years.

Doug Ford is the brother of controversial but popular former Toronto mayor Rob Ford, who infamously came to international attention in 2013 after he was caught smoking crack while still in office.
