Matar was born a decade after “The Satanic Verses” was published. The motive for the attack is unclear, State Police Maj. Eugene Staniszewski said.

Rushdie was on a fan after being stabbed at a literary event in New York state on Friday, more than 30 years after going into hiding following the fatwa of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini .

“Congratulations to this courageous and duty-conscious man who attacked the apostate and depraved Salman Rushdie in New York,” writes the newspaper, whose leader is appointed by the current Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

“Let us kiss the hands of the one who tore the neck of the enemy of God with a knife”, adds the daily.

Government supporters hailed the stabbings, saying it is Khomeini’s fatwa finally materializing after 33 years. Some said they hoped the author, who was knighted in 2007 in Britain “for services to literature”, died following the brutal attack.

Others warned that those seen as enemies of the Islamic Republic would suffer the same fate as him.

A quote from Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s current leader, was reportedly shared online with him saying the fatwa against Rushdie was “fired like a bullet that won’t stop until it reaches his target”.

The Daily mail reports, Iran’s conservative pundit Keyvan Saedy said on Twitter: “This deserves congratulations: God willing, we will soon celebrate Salman Rushdie going to hell.”

Hossein Saremi, a conservative social media activist, added that a “lion” beat Rushdie and that the attacker was part of the “soldiers of Islam without borders”. He wrote: “Revenge may be delayed, but it will inevitably come”.

A senior adviser to Iran’s nuclear negotiating team, Seyed Mohammad Marandi, said he would not shed a tear for the writer ‘who unleashes endless hatred and contempt for Muslims and Islam “.
Several accounts affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards, which Matar was reportedly sympathetic to, openly bragged about the attack.

However, Iranian authorities have yet to make any official comment on the stabbing attack on Rushdie.

In Pakistan a Dawn journalist Ali Waqar came out in favor of Matar. He tweeted:

49Ers Fans Pump Up Levi'S Stadium With Preseason Energy

SANTA CLARA (KPIX) — San Francisco 49ers fans weren’t disappointed with the energy at Levi’s Stadium for Friday night’s preseason opener.

Many said they were proud to be born as Faithful Niners.

“We were raised two blocks from Candlestick Park, for 25 years. We used to sell our garage and parking spaces to all the Candlesticks – all the 49ers fans,” said Saga Vae of San Francisco. “We are here, we share the blessings.”

“We were just here to support the Niners. We’re from the city of San Francisco. We just gotta represent our home team! You gotta show it. We just show them what the Bay Area is,” said Jojo Vae from San Francisco.

The preseason opener was also about eating game day favorites, sporting the red and gold and starting them young.

“Our tradition started last year just after they started letting people back into games and we got hooked on it,” said Shaleek Finley who takes his 6-year-old son Elisha to the games.

Elisha had the chance to do some kid-friendly training drills before the doors opened.

That’s when KPIX cameras caught eager fans running up the stairs to enter Levi’s Stadium.

“The first pre-season game we put out – we just wanted to know what Trey Lance looked like. So far we’ve been looking great,” Pittsburg boss Tagaloa said.

“We rode an hour and a half just to be here today and we are delighted to sit closer to the peloton today,” said Araceli Ramirez of Manteca.

Even Green Bay Packers fans like Modesto’s Janny Guzman brought their little ones to make memories.

When asked what it was like to be in the minority, Guzman replied, “We keep walking. Smiling.”

Suspect In Salman Rushdie Stabbing Has Shown Sympathy For Iranian Revolutionary Guards' Causes: Report

Rushdie, who faced Islamist death threats for years after writing ‘The Satanic Verses,’ was stabbed on stage Friday while performing at the Chautauqua Institution event in West New York.

The 24-year-old man detained for stabbing controversial Mumbai-born author Salman Rushdie was supportive of ‘Shia extremism’ and the causes of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, according to a media report .

Rushdie, who faced Islamist death threats for years after writing ‘The Satanic Verses,’ was stabbed on stage Friday while performing at the Chautauqua Institution event in West New York.

New York State Police have identified the suspect as Hadi Matar of Fairview, New Jersey, while the motive for the act is still unknown. The suspect ran onto the stage before a conference at the Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua and attacked 75-year-old Rushdie.

According to the police, the author was stabbed “at least once in the neck and at least once in the abdomen”. Rushdie’s interviewer was also attacked during the incident and suffered a minor head injury, police said.

Authorities were still researching Matar’s nationality and criminal record, if any. A preliminary review of Matar’s social media accounts by law enforcement showed he was sympathetic to Shia extremism and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) causes, an official told NBC News. law enforcement official with direct knowledge of the investigation.

Although there are no direct links between Matar and the IRGC, law enforcement agents reportedly found images of slain commander Qassem Solemani and an Iraqi extremist sympathizing with the Iranian regime in a cell phone messaging belonging to Matar, according to NBC News.

Soleimani was a senior Iranian military officer who served in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps from 1998 until his assassination in 2020.

Rushdie’s book The Satanic Verses has been banned in Iran since 1988 because many Muslims consider it offensive to Islam.

The author spent around 10 years under police protection in the UK, living in hiding after the late Iranian leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, issued a fatwa calling for Rushdie’s execution. A bounty of more than $3 million has been offered to anyone who kills Rushdie, who has been a prominent spokesperson for free speech and liberal causes.

Since 2000, Rushdie has lived in the United States. Rushdie was introduced around 10:45 a.m. when the assault happened, CNN quoted a witness as saying. The witness said he heard screams in the audience. He said a man in a black shirt appeared to be “hitting” the author. The witness, who was 75 feet from the scene, did not hear the attacker say anything or see a weapon.

Some people in the audience ran to lend a hand while others tackled the attacker, the witness said. State police said a doctor who was in the audience at the event helped Rushdie until help arrived.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul told reporters on Friday that a state trooper “got up and saved (Rushdie’s) life and protected him and the moderator who was also attacked. “.

A witness to the attack told CNN there were no security searches or metal detectors during the event. The suspect in Friday’s attack had a “pass to access the grounds,” Chautauqua Institution president Dr. Michael E Hill said at the press conference. Customers can purchase passes to attend the programs, Hill said.

Hill defended the institution’s measures, saying: “We assess for each event what we think is the appropriate level of security, and this was certainly the one we thought was important, which is why we had a presence of State Trooper and Sheriff there,” he said. . Staniszewski said there was no indication of a threat to the event and the state trooper was there because the event was a mass gathering and at the request of the institution.

Joyce Lussier, 83, who was in the second row of the amphitheater during the attack, said Rushdie had taken his place on the right side of the stage when suddenly a man who appeared to be all in black “wobbled across the stage and I got Rushdie.” “They caught him right away, he didn’t come off stage at all,” Lussier said of the suspect. “Soon after, the crowd was asked to evacuate,” she added.

Another witness, a longtime Chautauqua resident who asked not to be identified, recalled a commotion on stage and a man making about seven to 10 stabbing motions in the direction of the author, who was half standing. She said she fled the outdoor amphitheater “shaking like a leaf” in fear.
