President Biden said the United States would not recognize Russia’s annexation of Ukrainian regions and reiterated that NATO countries would defend all alliance territories. Addressing Russian President Vladimir Putin, Biden said, “Mr. Putin, don’t misunderstand me. Every square inch.”
Joe Biden: I also want to talk about Mr. Putin’s remarks this morning. You know, America and its allies are not going to – I will emphasize, not going to be intimidated, not going to be intimidated by Putin and his reckless words and threats. He will not scare us and he will not intimidate us.
Putin’s actions are a sign that he is in trouble. The sham referendums he held and this routine he set up, don’t worry, it’s not there if you look, OK. The mock routine we put together this morning that shows unity and people holding hands. Well, the United States will never recognize it and, quite frankly, the world won’t recognize it either. He can’t take over his neighbor’s territory and get away with it. It’s that simple.
And they will stay the course. We will continue to provide military equipment so that Ukraine can defend itself, its territory and its freedom, including additional resources that Congress will give me today of an additional $ 13 billion to help Ukrainians defend themselves and to retaliate. And we are fully prepared to defend, I want to repeat, America is fully prepared with our NATO allies to defend every square inch of NATO territory, every square inch. So Mr. Putin, don’t misunderstand me. Every inch.
