The Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) announced on Friday that it has launched a call for applications for the position of national selectors for the senior men’s team. The BCCI also said that the deadline for submitting applications is November 28 at 6 p.m. IST. The board has scrapped the selection committee headed by former Indian cricketer Chetan Sharma. The other committee members were Sunil Joshi (South Zone), Harvinder Singh (Central Zone) and Debashish Mohanty (East Zone).

BCCI secretary Jay Shah had mentioned after the board’s AGM in Mumbai last month that a new selection committee would be formed after the teams for the Bangladesh tour were announced. He had also mentioned that a Central Advisory Committee (CAC) would be formed, which would oversee the process of appointing national coaches.

Mr Shah had also said that the CAC would review the nominees after one year and provide feedback to the board on their performance.

The announcement comes a day after India exited the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup.

While the position of West Zone Selector had been vacant since February 2022 after Abey Kuruvilla’s tenure ended, East Zone Debasish Mohanty’s tenure was also going to end soon as he had previously been a member of the Selection Committee. of the junior team.

“Candidates wishing to apply for the said position must meet the following criteria for their application to be considered,” BCCI said in an official statement.

“Applicants must have played at least seven Test matches, 30 first-class matches; or 10 ODI matches and 20 First Class matches,” the statement added.

Additionally, applicants must have retired from the game at least five years ago.
